As we noted over Wrestlemania 39 weekend, WWE's one and only recognized Official Superfan Vladimir Abouzeide has been battling Parkinson's disease, something he decided to make public that weekend.
This past Friday, in an attempt to assist him with physical issues stemming from the Parkinson's, Vladimir underwent a four hour spinal surgery in NYC that required four surgeons working on him at the same time. He is told that the surgery was successful, but will require 4-6 weeks of physical therapy once he is healed enough to begin that process. He's still in a lot of pain, but it is subsiding by the day. The hope is that he'll have an easier time walking and dealing with balance issues post-surgery.
As a matter of full disclosure, he is one of my best friends in the world and with his permission, I wanted to update everyone on how he is doing.
Obviously, I and everyone here at the site are willing a quick and painless recovery for him so he can get back to doing what he loves best, watching pro wrestling*.
*HEY WWE, that should include his documentary. Release the damn thing already!
