5/1/23 Results from New Japan’s Road to Wrestling Dontaku 2023 from Oita, Japan:
Hiroshi Tanahashi came to the ring to address the fans. He joined Japanese announcers at ringside.
1 - Boltin Oleg vs. Oskar Leube
Oleg gets a submission win with a Boston Crab.
2 - SHO, Yujiro Takahashi, Dick Togo and EVIL vs. Toru Yano, YOH, Hirooki Goto and YOSHI-HASHI
Yano hits a double low blow on SHO and Togo.
Yano school boys Togo for a pin.
3 - Aaron Henare, TJP and Francesco Akira vs. Ryohei Oiwa, Kevin Knight and KUSHIDA
Henare forces Oiwa to tap out to Ultima.
Knight and KUSHIDA get in the face of Catch 22 and taunt them with the belts. All four men will be in the Best of the Super Jr 30 so their story will continue in this tournament.
4 - Great O-Khan, Jeff Cobb, Kyle Fletcher and Mark Davis vs. Kosei Fujita, Mikey Nichols, Shane Haste and Zack Sabre Jr.
O-Khan trapped Fujita in a Sheep Killer/Cobra Clutch combination. Fujita tapped out quickly.
O-Khan tried to maul Fujita after the match but TMDK came to save him.
Aussie Open remained in the ring until Bishamon came to challenge them. House of Torture attacks them all. They lay out Aussie Open again and EVIL and Yujiro steal the IWGP Tag belts. Goto and YOSHI-HASHI fight SHO and Togo to back.
5 - Taiji Ishimori, KENTA, Gedo and David Finlay vs. Master Wato, Hikuleo Jado and Tama Tonga
Wato traps Gedo in Vendaval and gets a submission.
After the match, Bullet Club beats down the babyfaces. Brutal attack. Finlay demands the officials give him the NEVER belt. Finlay attacks the young lions at ringside. He poses over Tama Tonga with the belt. KENTA poses over Hikuleo.
6 - Tomoaki Honma, Togi Makabe, Tomohiro Ishii and Kazuchika Okada vs. Yuto Nakashima, Ren Narita, El Desperado and Minoru Suzuki
Ishii forces Nakashima to tap out to a Boston Crab.
Okada calls Tanahashi to the ring. Okada says that The Ace will be their partner at Wrestling Dontaku 2023.
7 - BUSHI and Shingo Takagi vs. DOUKI and Taichi, with TAKA Michinoku
Taichi traps BUSHI in a Stretch Plumb and BUSHI submits.
8 - Hiromu Takahashi and Tetsuya Naito vs. Yoshinobu Kanemaru and SANADA, with TAKA Michinoku
Naito pins Kanemaru after a Destino.
Naito does his role call to send the fans home happy.
