4/30 NJPW ROAD TO WRESTLING DONTAKU RESULTS

4/30/23 Results from New Japan’s Road to Wrestling Dontaku 2023 From Kumamoto, Japan:

1 - SHO, Yujiro Takahashi, Dick Togo and EVIL vs. Ryohei Oiwa, YOH, YOSHI-HASHI, Hirooki Goto

SHO hits Oiwa with his wrench.   Yujiro hits Pimp Juice on Oiwa.

Yujiro pins Oiwa

2 - Great O-Khan, TJP and Francesco Akira vs. Yuto Nakashima, Kevin Knight and KUSHIDA

O-Khan trapped Nakashima in the Sheep Killer.

Nakashima tapped out.

3 - Aaron Henare, Jeff Cobb, Kyle Fletcher and Mark Davis  vs. Kosei Fujita, Shane Haste, Mikey Nichols and Zack Sabre Jr. 

Henare gets the submission win with Ultima on Fujita.

After the match, the lights go out and when they come back on EVIL and Yujiro have laid out Aussie Open.  Goto and YOSHI-HASHI try to make the save.  But House of Torture hits low blows on them and beat them down.

EVIL and Yujiro looked strong without Togo and SHO there as they beat down the champs and former champs.   

4 - Hikuleo and Jado vs. Taiji Ishimori and KENTA

Ishimori taps out Jado to the Bone Lock. 

After the match, KENTA beat down Hikuleo with a kendo stick.   David Finlay and Gedo attacked.  Master Wato and Tama Tonga makes the save.  Wild brawl.  Finlay and Tama fought into the crowd.   They rang the bell for the next match.

5 - David Finlay and Gedo vs. Master Wato and Tama Tonga

Wato pins Gedo after an RPP.

6 - Tomoaki Honma, Toru Yano, Tomohiro Ishii and Kazuchika Okada vs. Oskar Leube, Ren Narita, El Desperado and Minoru Suzuki

Yano pins Oskar with a School Boy Cradle.

7 - Elimination Match:   BUSHI, Shingo Takagi, Hiromu Takahashi and Tetsuya Naito vs. DOUKI, Yoshinobu Kanemaru, Taichi and SANADA

Takagi and Taichi continue their battle from the prior night. They go over top rope and battle on the ring apron.  Taichi goes for a Dangerous Backdrop but Takagi blocks it.  Takagi hits a DDT on the apron but both men fall to the floor.

Shingo Takagi and Taichi are eliminated.

BUSHI tries to take down DOUKI, DOUKI blocks it and tosses BUSHI over the top.  BUSHI lands on the apron.  BUSHI goes for the top rope but Kanemaru grabs his leg.  BUSHI kicks him away.  DOUKI hits a high kick on BUSHI and he drops to the floor. 

BUSHI is eliminated. 

Naito tosses DOUKI over the top.

DOUKI is eliminated.

Kanemaru tosses Naito over the top rope but Naito saves himself from touching the ground.  Kanemaru sends Hiromu crashing into Naito and he falls to the floor.

Naito is eliminated.

Kanemaru and Hiromu battle in the ring.  Hiromu tosses Kanemaru over the top but lands on the apron.  Kanemaru tried to suplex Hiromu to the floor but the both end up on the apron.  Hiromu hits a super kick and Kanemaru falls to the floor.

Kanemaru is eliminated.

SANADA tried to catch Hiromu on the apron but Hiromu dashes around the apron and slides into the ring.  SANADA traps Hiromu in Skull End.   As he applies pressure, SANADA lets go and goes to the top rope for a moonsault.  Hiromu gets up and pushes SANADA off the top rope to the floor.

SANADA is eliminated.

Hiromu wins the match for Los Ingobernales de Japon.

SANADA has made this mistake in the past.  I think they are foreshadowing something in their upcoming match.   I expect to see a similar set up in their Title match and a different outcome.
