It is Wednesday and AEW Dynamite is at the FLA Live Arena in Sunrise, FL. Our commentary team is Excalbur, Taz, and Tony Schiavone.
Orange Cassidy (AEW International Champion) vs Bandido
First time we’ve seen Bandido on Dynamite in a while, so we do get some clips of his matches back when he was feuding with Jericho.
Cassidy starts with some shenanigans, but he and Bandido match each other hold for hold, with Cassidy making fun of this from time to time. When Cassidy does his moves with hands in his pockets, it’s still impressive since it takes so much balance and control. After they brawl on the outside, Bandido takes over and works over Cassidy as Cassidy sells the injured hand. When they come back from commercial, Cassidy is using the silliness more than he has recently.
As the match goes on, Bandido’s style works well with Cassidy, as they can both do the high flying, fast paced stuff, and Bandido reacts well to the silliness by not playing into it. Bandido does a single arm gorilla press on Cassidy that, while with some help from Cassidy, made Bandido look big time. Cassidy wins after getting an Orange Punch when Bandido pops him up, and then follows with Beach Break for the pin and the win.
Winner and still AEW International Champion: Orange Cassidy
A good fast paced match with a fan favorite to start off the show, and afterward, Cassidy puts his sunglasses on Bandido.
Backstage, Renee Paquette is with Adam Cole and he says he will call out Chris Jericho. Cassidy and Bandido show and Cassidy asks if she was there to interview them after their match. She says no, and Cassidy says “Oh” and leaves. Bandido does the same thing.
Renee is then with Jungle Boy and Darby Allin, and Darby says that maybe they took it too far last week. If he knew what was going to happen, he wouldn’t have been in the reuters. He asked JB to have his back tonight. JB says he wishes it would have been them tonight, but good luck. JB also says he would have beat Darby, and Darby says he would have beat JB.
No where did JB say he would back Darby up, I see.
Jeff Jarrett vs Dax Harwood
The officials keep Jarrett’s group from coming to the ring with him.
OK, Excalibur says that Mark Briscoe didn’t any expect any scalliwagery from Jeff Jarrett. So, we have a new word that sounds like it is from the late 19th Century.
This starts off as a fast paced southern style wrestling match with a lot of basic moves down with a lot of force. As the match goes on, this is an old school match with a lot of focus on having a lot of snap in the moves and having Jerrett be arrogant, and Dax taking advantage of that. They also have both of them being even though the entire match, which works well for both men. They then move to near falls with counter holds.
Sonjay Dutt comes from somewhere to grab Dax’s leg to try to stop him from kicking out of a pin. Dax chases him, and Jarrett is able to use that to hit Dax with The Stroke for the pin and the win.
Winner: Jeff Jarrett
After the match, Sonjay grabs the tag team title belt and hands it to Jarrett.
It’s now time for a Tony Khan special announcement. The opening ceremonies for the Owen Hart cup will be at Double for Nothing, and the matches will take place during AEW’s tour of Canada.
Wardlow (TNT Champion) w/Arn Anderson vs The Already In The Ring No Name Jones
4 power bombs and pin.
Winner and still TNT Champion: Wardlow
Arn Anderson
Tells No Name Jones to get an ice bath and a 12 pack. Arn says he has figured out who’s who in the locker room. He brings up the NFL draft. He says Wardlow is AEW’s dynasty and no one has Wardlow’s got. He says Wardlow needs to agree with him on, and he will have to be violent.
He is cut off by Christian Cage and Luchasaurus. Luchasaurus and Wardlow glare at each other.
In the back, Renee asks Sammy about his match later tonight. MJF shows up and they give each other kisses on the forehead. They clean up the stuff from last week and Sammy says he was paid to lay down at Double or Nothing. Sammy then gives MJF a vest that matches him, and MJF gives Sammy a scarf.
They hug and we go to commercial.
RJ City starts to talk about Kenny Omega and Takeshida teaming up, and Mox drops him. Mox then grabs a microphone and says they have scars to leave tonight.
Darby Allin vs Sammy Guevara
MJF comes out and joins commentary.
They start by working a side headlock in a number of different ways before moving to the high flying stuff. Sammy keeps trying to get them into high flying stuff, but Darby goes back to the side headlock. As the match keeps going, the dynamic stays the same, with Darby trying for core wrestling moves and strikes and Sammy going for big moves like flips and leaps.
You would think that since they both have the “how many dangerous moves can I fit into a match” they’d both use a similar style, but having Darby taking it deadly serious and Sammy showboating really works for the match, especially with MJF praising Sammy on commentary.
Sammy sets up a table at ringside, but Darby is the one to lay Sammy on the table. When Darby goes up top, Tay Melo distracts him so that Sammy can get a Spanish Fly from the top. Then Darby is laid across the table as MJF calls Tony a fat, old pri**k. Sammy hits a 630 splash into Darby on the table. Darby is able to get in the ring at 9 and MJF storms to ringside.
MJF tosses Darby the skateboard as the ref is dealing with Tay, and Sammy drops to the mat. The ref turns, sees Sammy down and Darby with a skateboard and DQ’s Darby
Winner: Sammy Guevara
MJF clotheslines Darby after the match and he and Sammy start to beat him down. Tony Khan is on the headset to Tony and Jungle Boy runs MJF and Sammy off. JB and Darby argue int he ring and MJF says that he and Sammy are the main event at Double or Nothing.
Tony interrupts MJF and calls HIM a pr**k, and he says Sammy has a title shot at Double or Nothing. But, he isn’t th eONLY one. Next week, there will be a tag team match with JB and Darby will face MJF and Sammy. If JB and Darby win, it’s a four way match.
In the back, MJF and Sammy are not happy about this and he tells Tony Khan when he leaves, he will take the belt with him. They get to MJF’s car and MJF says Sammy can’t come with him because the car is full, while the camera shows it is now.
Jade Cargill (TBS Champion) vs Taya Valkyrie if Taya uses the Road to Valhalla, she will be disqualified.
They start slowly with jaw jacking, but move quickly to throwing hands. As they fight, Jade is tossed over the top and tries to skin the cat, but can’t quite do it. The match is pretty much a brawl, and they fight on the floor through the commercial break. When they come back to full screen, Taya is just beating Jade down, to the point where she slams Jade and Jade kind of forgets to get the shoulder up so the ref covers for her. Taya looks impressive in the ring with Jade, when Jade usually looks like the monster.
Taya sets up to do the Road to Valhalla, and stops, and Jade is able to get the most devastating move of all of professional wrestling with a surprise rollup, with a handful of tights for the pin and the win.
Winner and still TBS champion: Jade Cargill
Taya rages after the match and the referees have to stop her from a rampage.
Britt Baker is backstage and says that the Outcasts have given them a reason to no longer be good people. Jamie Hayter says they have declared war, and the only way this will be over is if they send them to the morgue.
And now, it’s all about the boom as Adan Cole comes to the ring. He yells at Jericho for setting up the Outcasts beating Britt Baker and he will hurt him and hurt him bad. He calls for Jericho to come to the ring so he can beat him within an inch of his life.
Jericho’s music hits and he is on the big screen and tells them to cut the music. Jericho says he won’t come to the ring and fight him, and he doesn’t want to be anywhere near him. He then says Cole did nothing to help Baker, but he will send the Jericho Appreciation Society to beat him up.
Orange Cassidy and Bandido show to help even the odds, but they are still outnumbered. This brings out Roderick Strong who cleans house.
We then go to QTV and I lapse into a coma.
Excalibur gives a world’s record speed rundown of what will be on Rampage and Bryan Danielson comes out as we go to commercial and he’s joining commentary.
Kenny Omega and Konosuke Takeshita vs Butcher and Blade
Blade and Takeshita start off, he and Kenny work him over with quick tags. They go to commercial quickly and Kennyu takes the beatdown on the small screen. Takeshita tags in before they return to full screen and he Dominates the Butcher. And he is about the same size as Butcher.
Blade comes into the ring and together they are able to turn the tide. Kenny is finally able to drag Blade out of the ring so that Takeshita is able to take over again. Takeshita wins with the running knee in a pretty perfunctory match.
Winners: Kenny Omega and Konosuke Takeshite.
Bryan then says he sees one Professional Wrestler in the ring who got the pin and an amateur. As he keeps talking, Jon Moxley, Claudio Castagnoli, and Wheeler Yuta rush the ring. The Young Bucks come out and take out the BCC as Bryan is talking to Takeshita.
Takeshita stops Kenny from attacking Moxley, and that allows the BBC to regroup and take out The Elite. They ask Takeshita if he will join them to be trained by the BCC and when he doesn’t say yes, they attack Takeshita and take him down as we are desperately out of time.
