It was announced yesterday that NBCU Head Jeff Shell had immediately departed the company after a third-party investigation into allegations against him in relation to an inappropriate relationship Shell had with an on-air personality.
In a press release from NBCU parent company Comcast, Shell commented, "Today is my last day as CEO of NBCUniversal. I had an inappropriate relationship with a woman in the company, which I deeply regret. I'm truly sorry I let my Comcast and NBCUniversal colleagues down, they are the most talented people in the business and the opportunity to work with them the last 19 years has been a privilege.”
Shell was involved with the deal to bring the WWE Network to NBCU's streaming platform Peacock, calling the company "perfect" for Peacock at the time.
There is no word at this time whether Shell's departure will have any ripple effect on WWE's relationship with NBCU. They are several years into their Peacock deal while the USA Network's current rights to WWE NXT end this September. Their rights to Raw would end at the end of 2023.
