Whether it’s Monday Night Raw or WrestleMania, you can always up your game when playing host for a pro wrestling night. Still boasting an average audience of over 1.8 million in the US two weeks removed from WrestleMania 39, you’re bound to be able to fill the seats in your living room or garden on a weekly basis – especially if word spreads on a particularly fun activity that accompanies the action in the square circle.
So, here are some suggestions to spice up your wrestling night, which can work for both weekly meets and the main events of the year.
It’s always wise to ask people to arrive a good 30 minutes or hour before the event starts as, inevitably, some will just turn up late. During this time, to appease the hardcore fans and casual fans who arrive as intended, getting into the spirit with some classic WWE highlights can be a great thing to do. There's plenty to see, so just run them in the background, especially to help hook the casuals who are perhaps more familiar with former superstars.
A surefire way to get people more invested in any sports or competition is to make drafts, sweepstakes, or hold betting. The easiest to run in most states is betting. Not all states are open to online betting, but where it is available, newcomers can get bonuses to enhance the opening wagers. As an example, if you're from Pennsylvania, a PA sports betting bonus can be used to bet on any WWE event.
If you’re in a state without online betting, you can always set something up yourself. One way would be to have everyone pay in the same amount to get the same number of tokens. For each match, people bet as many tokens as they want on the outcome, with winners splitting the match pot. In the end, everyone can cash in their tokens for an equal sum of the total betting pot. Alternatively, you could do a draft or blind draw from a buy-in to determine head-to-head betting in matches.
Anyone can go online and get a fairly cheap bit of WWE gear if needed, so it shouldn’t be asking too much to get yourself and your guests in at least a pro wrestling baseball cap. It just helps to get everyone in the theme and even propel the fandom for certain superstars who come out that night. At the very least, if you can rock your best WWE t-shirt and show your enthusiasm, those around you will find themselves at least getting invested in your excitement for the event.
Everyone’s used to the usual party foods: pizza, nachos, wings, chicken bites, chips, etc. So, make your range a bit different, or at least seem different. As showcased by the ID party food list, you can quickly turn a few mundane snacks into an amazing WWE buffet. A jug of iced tea may not appeal to anyone, until it’s called “Booker Tea!” Put out some Degeneration Eggs, Seth Roll-ings, Hulk Hoagies, and RAW veggies, and you have a wrestling-themed spread.
With some simple tweaks and in-theme activities, your wrestling night can become the most anticipated part of the week!
