El Paso, Texas WWE Live Event
Don Haskins Center
April 16th 2023
10 minutes till bell time and there are hundreds of people still outside the building waiting in line at all four major entrances. Doors usually open an hour before. Not sure if this was a venue issue or a WWE one.
National anthem and then Cody Rhodes comes out in a suit and tie. Huge pop. He acknowledges that people are still outside in line - blames Byron Saxton - and says we are going to riff a little bit to give them time to enter the building.
Eventually Imperium comes and attacks and this sets up Cody, KO, and Riddle versus Imperium.
Dominik defeated Santos in the opening bough. El Paso is Eddie Guerrero country and Dominik didn’t get any mic time. Santos is a star. I know there is zero point zero chance WWE will ever use him as anything other than a low card ethnic character. He is so engaging though. He deserves something other than wearing an LWO tee shirt.
Braun Strowman and Ricochet defeated the The Viking Warriors.
Shinsuke Nakamura defeated The Miz. Huge reaction for The Miz. A lot of great mic work from The Miz as well.
Bobby Lashley defeated Austin Theory by DQ. The finished just flattened the vibe and atmosphere.
Piper Niven defeated Shotzi and Chelsea Green.
Bianca Belair defeated Piper Niven and Asuka. Huge reaction when Bianca was able to lift Piper for her finisher.
Cody, KO, and Riddle defeated Imperium in the main event. The good guys took a ton of selfies and signed autographs for quite a long time after the match ended.
Full house. Ticketmaster showed 6900 seats out of 7200 sold the morning of the event. Probably very close to a sellout.
