3/30 DDT GOES HOLLWOOD REPORT

On March 30th DDT's first Hollywood show in 2023 was on FITE+ straight from the Ukrainian Cultural Center in Los Angeles, CA.  If you have not seen DDT Before, it is a group from Japan that has comedy as well as traditional wrestling. 

Our commentary team was Dave Prazak and Veda Scott

The place looks packed as the show starts.

Chris Brookes & Yoshihiko vs 37KAMIINA (MAO & Shunma Katsumata)

If Yosihiko is pinned at any time, he will lose his Iron Man Heavy Metalweight Championship.

Brookes and Shunma start off and Sunma asks to shake hands and wants the match to be fair play only. Brookes goes to shake his hand and Shunma mocks him. Shunma gets an arm bar and Brookes reaches the ropes with his leg for a break. Brookes gets an arm bar, and Shuma can’t reach the ropes at first, but he does get up and walks the ropes until Brookes pulls him down to crotch him on the ropes. Shunam gets a Hhurricanrana and a drop kick.  MAO tags in. Yoshihiko tags in.

Yoshihiko, a wrestling dummy, is on the ropes and MOA wrestles it. Mao gets a power bomb on Yoshihiko to the floor and gets a double stomp. He pulls Toshihiko into the ring for a brain buster and a two count. Shunma tags in and rakes Yoshihiko’s eyes on the ropes and hits a pile driver for two, broken up by Brookes. Yoshihiko gets out of a brain buster and MAO comes in for a double suplex and instead Yoshihiko gets a double DDT. 

Brookes is tagged in and cleans house. MAO and Shunma try for a double clothesline and Brookes is able to lock on an octopus on both of them. They break free and Brookes goes to his corner for a tag with Yoshihiko. He whips Yoshihiko into the corner and Shunma is able to catch him. They struggle and Yoshihiko launches Shunma into a cutter from Brookes who covers for two.

Shunma gets three kicks on Yoshihiko and then one on Brookes. MAO gels for a German suplex, but Yoshiko gets a reversal and a victory roll for two. Yoshihiko gets a waistlock and when MAO tries to get help from Shunma, Yoshihiko pulls them both in for a suplex. Brookes tosses Shunma and Yoshihiko fires up the fans, and dives onto Snhunma and MAO in the third row but they catch him and toss him back into the ring. Yoshihiko dives again, this time successfully.

Brookes hits a dive as well. Brookes and Yoshihiko climb to the top and do a two person senton and Yoshihiko covers for two. Yoshihiko has rolled onto the floor, and he gets back in the ring at 8 with the help of fans. MAO grabs Yoshihiko, and they trade blows. Yoshihiko hits a multiple rotation spinning DDT for two. Yoshihiko goes to the top and Brookes joins him and gets a hurricane rana for the top and Yoshihiko kicks out of a cover at one.

Yoshihiko gets a poisonrana and follows for a dragon suplex and Shunma breaks it up with a leap. MAO covers and Brookes breaks it up. Brookes goes for a butterfly suplex, but Shunma escapes and gets a DDT on Brookes who rolls to the floor where Shunma dives onto him. MOA gets a knee strike on Yoshihiko for two. MOA then hits a Blockbuster with Shunma for the pin and the win

MOA tries to pin Shunma, who kicks out, but Chris Brookes grabs a quick pin on Shunma for the pin.

Brokkes tries to explain what happened to Yoshihiko, who then hits him with three destroyers for the pin and the win.

Pheromones (Danshoku Dino & Yuki Ino) vs Takagi Army (Michael Nakazawa & Sanshiro Takagi)

Takagi and Ino start with Ino avoiding lock ups and Ino gives a sexy pose in the ropes each time.  They run the ropes and Ino gets a shoulder tackle. Nakazawa and Dino tag in. Nakazawa is in khakis and a polo shirt with a headset on. They lock up and Nakazawa gets a wristlock, and Dino reverses it and puts Nakazawa’s hand on his swimsuit region. Nakazawa tries to tag out as his hand is still held. Dino gets a drop toe hold and then lays on top of Nakazawa. Dino pulls  him up and gets a snap suplex. He then pulls down his trunks to show a thong and does some squats over Nakazawa’s face.  Takagi gets a chop and Dino drops onto Nakazawa’s face for a two count.

Ito tags in and gets a snap mare. He does push ups on Nakazawa’s face. Ino then undoes his singlet, showing his jock strap and then continues. The ref asks if Nakazawa gives up.

I know I would.

Nakazawa is up, they trade forearms and Nakazawa takes off the polo. Ino drops his straps and after another forearm from Nakazawa and the whole singlet comes down. Ito gives the Hulk Hogan “YOU!” and lays into Nakazawa. They run the ropes and Nakazawa gets a spear and Takagi is tagged in.

Ino gets a strike and Takagi tags Ito with a drop kick when he comes off the ropes. Takagi hits Ito when he is draped across the ropes.Ito gets a fireman’s carry into a suplex, and Dino comes into the ring and they give him a double spinning stinkface. Nakazawa breaks it up but he gets taken out. Ito gets a rear double underhook on Takagi, and Dino grabs a slingshot on Nakazawa into Ito’s backside. Ito and Dino release the holds.  Ito chants “We want a$$h0les” and gets on the top, backside toward the ring. Dino tries to whip Takagi into Ito, but Takagi stops short and is able to drive his hands…well, you know.  He then is turned around by Dino, and puts his hands under Dino’s nose and gets a stunner. He tags in Nakazawa who goes to the top and hits a shoulder block from the top for two.

Nakazawa goes for a charge and Dino dodges so that Nakazawa hits Ito in the turnbuckle. OK, hits him face first in the bum on top of the turnbuckle. Takagi tries for a spear and gets the same treatment. Nakazawa asks if anyone can translate when he recovers. Dino says he can translate. Nakazawa says he will make Ito disappear. 

Instead Dino gets a kick to Nakazawa’s midsection, he drops onto Ito’s swimsuit region, Dino covers Nakazawa’s upper body and it appears as if Nakazawa is…well, giving oral pleasure. The jock strap is gone and the ref can’t look. Dino puts the jockstrap on the ref’s face.

The covering is removed and Ito rolls over, holding Nakazawa’s shoulders down. Dino kisses the ref and security covers everything up.

The referee determines it’s a no contest

Andrew Everett & Nick Wayne vs Kazusada Higuchi & Takeshi Masada

Andrew Everett comes to the ring with a huge prop hammer.

Masada and Wayen start out with Masada getting a wrist lock. Wayne reverses it and Masada reverses and turns it into a side headlock takeover.  Wayne uses headscissors to get free and they reset. Masada picks the legs and they then run the ropes. Wayne gets a head scissors takedown, but Masada is right back up. Wayne gets a diving uppercut and Masada crawls to his corner and tags in Higushi.

Everett tags in as well. They trade chops, and Everett looks as if he was shot when he takes a chop. Everett runs into a chop that turns him inside out. Higuchi delivers a chop in the corner, and Masada tags in and works over Everett on the mat. Everett works his way up and delivers a head butt. Masada whips Everett to the corner, but he goes up and over and gives Masada a head butt. Everett gets a springboard spin kick and tags in Wayne as then hits a double team suplex for two. Wayne gets a hammerlock and grabs the other wrist and pulls it back. 

Wayne snaps it back and covers for two. Everett tags in and they keep Masada in their corner. Everett gets a brain buster and follows with a standing moonsault for two, broken up by Higuchi. Everett chops Masada down. Everett is then whipped into the ropes and Masada gets a drop kick. 

Masada tags in Higuchi who charges over to the opposite corner and knows Wayne off the apron. He charges into Everett and then hits a power slam for two. Higuchi waits for Everett but misses his charge and Everett hits a moonsault press off the second rope. He gets a second for two. Wayne is finally tagged in and he lands several chops and the claw. He then hits a series of kicks and tries to suplex Higuchi, who blocks it. Higuchi gets one chop and Wayne is down. Masada gets a back elbow in the corner, then hits a flatliner and a brain buster for two.

Wayne and Masada trade forearms. It turns to kicks and Wayne gets a snap dragon and Masada gets a kick off the second rope. Higuchi and Everett are tagged in and they trade shots. Everett gets an insigiri and then runs into a lariat and Higuchi covers for two. Higuchi slams Everett and then goes to the rope. Everett gets an insigiri on the ropes and they are both on top. Everett tries for a chokeslam, but Higuchi gets a head butt. Higuchi tries a choke slam, but Everett avoids it and gets a super kick when they land. 

Everett tries for a chokeslam again, and Higuchi fights out of it. Higuchi gets a pounce and Masada takes out Wayne. Higuchi applies the claw and Everewtt grabs Higuchi for the chokeslam. Higuchi gets a claw slam instead and covers for the pin and the win.

Winners: Kazusada Higuchi & Takeshi Masada

A serious match, and well worked by young workers. All four men shake hands when the match is over.

Saki Akai vs Vert Vixen

They start with a handshake. They get a collar and elbow tie up. They trade wrist locks and then forearms. Akia gets a knee strike and after they run into the corner, Vixen gets a leg sweep and a flatliner into the mat for two. They run the ropes, Vixen takes Akai down and then stomps her shoulder into the mat and covers for two. 

Vixen goes for a suplex, but Akia blocks it. Vixen gets a forearm, but Akai is able to get the suplex and Vixen rolls to the outside and Akia leaps onto her. She rolls Vixen into the ring and goes to the top. She hits a cross body for two. Akai hits a flurry of blows and gets a snap mare. Vixen avoids a knee strike off the ropes and rolls Akai up for two. Vixen is tossed to the apron, but is able to get a stunner as she returns to the ring. She then hits a blue thunder bomb for two. 

When Vixen tries to pick up Akai, Akai grabs her in a triangle choke. Vixen gets to the bottom rope for the break. Akai gets a kick and a cover for two. Akai is able to get an octopus slam, Quetzalcoatal for the pin and the win.

Winner: Saki Akai

Another serious match and a good introduction to Akai.  Commentary says that Vert Vixen is going to Japan, so I think the experience will do her good and help her keep climbing the ladder. 

They shake hands and raise each other’s hands at the end.

Joey Janela vs Tetsuya Endo

They lock up collar and elbow and quickly switch to wrist locks. Endo gets an arm drag. They then get the knuckle lock and Endo first goes to his knees and is able to break it and get a chop. They then trade chops. Janella goes down after a chop and calls for a handshake. Endo shakes his hand and Janella gets a knee to the midsection, followed by a neckbreaker. Janella comes off the ropes into Endo’s drop kick and Janella goes to the floor. Endo tries for a Tope, but Janella stops him with an elbow and then gets a neckbreaker on the ropes. 

Janella gets a stalling brain buster onto Endo on the hardwood floor. Endo is rolled into the ring and Janella gets a two count. Janella then starts with elbows to Endo’s neck. He whips Endo into the ropes and hits a back elbow for a two count. Janella gets a cravate and Endo gets to his feet and fights, but Janella trunks it into a sleeper hold. Endo gets a jaw breaker and a standing moonsault, but Janella gets the knees up. Janella gets another neckbreaker for two.

Janella pulls him up for a knee strike and Janella lays in chops in the corner. Endo reverses a whip into the corner, and follows Janella in. Janella is able to pick Endo up and over onto the apron. Endo gets a forearm and a springboard into the ring. Janella gets a drop down uppercut. Janella runs into the corner where Endo gets hit feet up and then hits a springboard strike into a two count. 

Janella goes to the floor and Endo hits a handspring backflip leap onto Janella on the floor. He rolls Janella into the ring and covers for two. Endo pulls Janella into a torture rack, but Janella fights out. Janella gets a head scissors takedown and then a package piledriver for two, but Endo grabs the ropes.

Janella goes to the top and Endo recovers and meets him there. Endo gets a moonsault side slam he calls Tetsuya In The Sky With Diamonds for two. Endo goes to the top again, but Janella recovers and meets him there. Janella gets elbows to the back of Endo’s head, followed by a brain buster off the top for two. 

Janella picks him up and gives forearms and kicks. Endo gets a forearm and goes to a knee and Janella fires back. They trade blows with Endo gaining strength with each one. Endo goes to the ropes and Janella cuts him off with an uppercut. Endo gets a boot, and Janella goes for a release German suplex, but Endo lands on his feet. Endo retaliated with a German suplex of his own, and they trade German suplexes back and forth. Endo gets a poisonrana. Janella gets a lariat and both men are down. 

Janella is first to recover and pulls Endo up, but Endo gets a Pele kick. Janella goes to the ropes, but Endo gets a back breaker while Janella nails a kick. Both men are down again. Janella rolls to the apron, and Endo follows him there. Janella gets a series of shots on Endo. He lifts Endo, who fights free with elbows and then gets a destroyer on the apron. Endo rolls Janella into the ring and hits a back bomb for two.

Endo goes to the top and hits a burning star press for the pin and the win.

Winner Tetsuya Endo

A great match that was an old fashion war of attrition.. They shake hands at the end of the match.

Eddie Kingston & Jun Akiyama vs Damnation T.A (Daisuke Sasaki & Kanon)

Kingston starts off with Sasaki and they trade waistlocks and go to the mat. They break and Kingston picks the leg and gets a front facelock. Saske gets the wrist and they work to their feet and Kingston turns it into a side headlock. Sasake fights his way free but Kingston gets a shoulder tackle and gets a delayed vertical suplex. Kanon tags in and they trade chopped and strikes. Kingston is able to get a front facelock and Akiyama tags in.

They whip Kanon into the ropes and tackle him down. Sasaki comes into the ring, and after they whip him into the ropes, he bails to the outside. Kanoni calls Akiyama to the floor but gets into the ring. As Akiyama gets in the ring, Sasaki kicks the second rope and goes after Akiyama while Sasaki goes after Kingston on the outside. All four men brawl around the ring. 

Kanon hits a DDT on Akiyama on the floor and then stands on him. Kingston is down and both members of Damnation TA beat on Akiyama. Kingston comes over and he gets attacked with a rake of the eyes.  Akiyama is rolled into the ring and Kanon stomps him down in the ropes. Sasasi has a turnbuckle wrench and chokes Akiyama with it. 

Kanon then does the same thing. Sasaki puts a knee on the throat of Akiyama for a two count. Akiyama is able to get to hit feet and Sasaki drops Akiyama on Akiyama. Sasaki goes to the top and misses an elbow and Kingston is tagged in.

Kingston takes out Sasaki with a back elbow and then his series of chops in the corner. He gets a belly to belly suplex and then the stretch plum. Kanon breaks it up, so Kingston drops him with a kick. Saski gets a jaw breaker and a DDT on Kingston. Sasaki tries for a head scissors take down, and doesn’t quite get all of it (if you know what that means) and locks on a crossface. Akiyama comes in and breaks it up with boots. Kanon tags in and gets a drop kick as Kingston comes off the ropes. Kanon then gets an uranagi. 

He waits for Kingston to get up, but when he charges, Kingston hits a chop and is able to get the tag to Akiyama. Akiyama gets a two count and as he tries for an exploder, Sasaki comes in to break it up. Kanon gets a clothesline and locks in the octopus stretch. Kingston breaks it up and Sasaki knocks Kingston out of the ring. 

Akiyama gets a boot up when Kanon charges, but Kanon gets a chop, knocking Akiyama to the apron. Kanon pulls him in for a draping DDT and a two count. Akiyama clocks a suplex, and Kingston runs in with Sasaki so they can hit stereo exploders. Akiyama gets a knee strike for two. Akiyama hits another exploder for the pin and the win.

Winners: Eddie Kingston and Jun Akiyama

Another well worked match where Eddie gets to work with Jun Akiyama.

Main Event:  Konosuke Takeshita vs Yuki Ueno

They shake hands and when Ueno tries to back away, Takashita holds on and then whips him into the ropes. When Takashita follows, Ueno gives him a knee in the midsection. They run the ropes and trade arm drags and drop kicks. Ueno is up first and helps Takashita up.  They trade chops. This moves to trading holds into the ropes and when they break, Uedo gives Takashita a chop. 

Ueno gives a series of forearms and Takeshide gives a big boot. Ueno gets a clothesline that takes the much bigger Takashita off his feet. Ueno gets a hurricanrana and then a big knee in the back and Takashita is in the ropes. Ueno grabs a rear chinlock. Takashita gets to his feet and fights free, but Ueno stops him with a knee. Takashita is able to take Ueno down with a series of strikes. 

Takashita is able to take Ueno down and into a head scissors. Ueno goes into a headstand, but Takashita turns it into a short pile driver. Takashita takes over with attacks on Ueno’s neck. Ueno is able to get a forearm to stop Takashita’s attack. He is able to drop kick Takashita off the top and he drops to the floor and Ueno dives onto Takashita.

He rolls Takashita into the ring and gets a leap into Takashita into the corner. Ueno drops a knee for a two count. They trade waistlocks until Takashita tries for a German suplex, but Ueno lands on his feet. Ueno gets a German suplex and Ueno follows up with a half and golf, holding on to the bridge for two. They struggle for control and Takashita hits a flying elbow. It takes Takashita a bit to collect himself and when he does, he hits a brain buster.

Taekshida waits for Ueno to get up and misses a jumping knee. Ueno gets a poisonrana and then a destroyer off the ropes. Ueno charges Takashita, who gets a blue thunder bomb for two. Ueno staggers to the floor and Takashita hits a diving somersault into Ueno on the floor.  He rolls Ueno into the ring and goes to the top and Ueno meets him there. Ueno gets a top rope hurricanrana for two. 

They trade blows kneeling. Ueno pulls Takashita up and starts striking again. Taekshida fires back. They trade forearms ending with a Takashita clothesline, but Ueno kicks out at one. Ueno gets a drop kick and Takashida answers with a jumping knee. Ueno hits his WR Connect for two. Ueno tries to pick up Takashida, but Takashida can’t be moved. He finally pulls Takashita up and gets a knee strike to the back of his head. He pulls Takashita up again and gets a standing drop kick. Ueno goes for the best moonsault ever, but Takeshita has gotten to his feet and caught him. Takeshita then hits a pile driver and follows with a German Release Suplex. 

Taekshita gets a knee strike for the pin and the win.

Winner: Konoske Takeshita

A hard fought match that capped out an odd show with two pure comedy matches and then the rest were pretty standard old school matches with lots of spots and false finishes.
