Wrestling Open Week 65

3/30/23 - Worcester, MA

The Wrestling Open Championship tournament continue on this week with the conclusion of the first round matches AND our first quarterfinal bout! 

Spotlight Match: Brad Baylor vs RJ Rude

Baylor cares about his hair and not much else. RJ uses his speed and quickness to great effect at first but Baylor hits a spine buster. Snap powerslam for two. Rude fighting back but eats a TKO. Baylor keeps the pressure on and is telling us he is the greatest ever. Over and over. RJ with a jawjacker, clotheslines and a double knee in the corner. Release powerbomb and a springboard moonsault should finish it….but Baylor kicks out. RJ weathers a final flurry and hits an Unprettier for the win!

Winner: RJ Rude

And we’re live on IWTV! Paul Crockett and Denver Colorado are at the commentary table. Rich Palladino is your announcer. Let’s do this!

Match 1: BRG (w/ Steven Stetson) vs Ichiban 

Stetson very much wants his little buddy to knock Ichiban out of the tournament. It’s not going well so the big cowboy takes matters into his own hands. BRG unloading on Ichiban, grinding him out. Ichiban fighting back but BRG has that arm targeted. Ichiban swinging the one good arm he has left. Big missile dropkick! He tries the flatliner, BRG has it scouted! Leg lariat connects! BRG kicks out! He drives the shoulder into the mat. He wants that sweet victory but the headlock driver can’t secure it. BRG is furious, what does he have to do. BRG eats the flatliner! Stetson distracts the ref! Ichiban pulls Stetson in front of BRG’s dive and finished the ranchhand with a high cross body! Stetson is devastated and tries to ambush Ichiban. Ichiban ducks and scares Stetson off. 

Winner: Ichiban
 

Match 2: Evie de la Rosa vs Shannon LaVangie

Shannon trying to out-quick the straightforward and brutal Rosa. Evie just doesn’t let Shannon hang and inch and drops hard shots. Big pedigree for two. Shannon back with clotheslines, double knees, running boot. Troublemaker splash for the win. 

Winner: Shannon LaVangieShannon is upset that B3CCA called her a fake. She wants a trouble maker? She’s got it.

Match 3: Anastasia Morningstar & Brother Greatness vs Love Doug & Notorious Mimi

Brother doesn’t want to be in the ring with ol’ Lusty Douglas. They have a test of strength where the power of love and Christ compels them to go back and forth to a stalemate. Anastasia suggests the power of Satan might in fact compel them. Mimi and Doug just taking it to the holy man. Mimi gets baited into distracting the ref as the Church hits an electric chair 619 facebuster to the apron. Anastasia tags in and slaps some Love into Doug. Doug tries to jump to freedom but she catches him with a German for two. Doug stuns Ana and gets to Mimi. This is not the best place for BG as Mimi is just tossing him around. Ana pulls Doug off the apron, tags in, boots Mimi and powerbomb splashes Brother onto Mimi for the win!

Winner: Church of Greatness
 

Match 4: Jariel Rivera vs Rex Lawless

Jariel seems to think he’s bigger than Rex. They have a pose-off and Jariel is taken aback by the pecs of Rex. Rex just taking Rivera for a ride and tossing him around by the arms. Jariel stuns the big man with a slingshot codebreaker. He tries again but Rex zetas him out of the air and into the buckles at high velocity. Big corner boot! Kick out! Jariel fights off the chokebomb…he’s gonna suplex Rex? No. Lawless with a Press fallaway slam and Jariel rolls to safety. Rex gives chase but walks into a snap German. Jariel lands the delay vertical suplex! Honestly impressed. He tries a spear but Rex picks him out of the sky, yeets him and spears Jariel in half for the win!

Winner: Rex Lawless

It’s football season. By that I mean, Soccer. By that I mean ACZ is here for his second week back at Open with Alex Cypher. Wrestling’s only super agent is hyped for his man’s debut last week. Let’s see if he scores another goal.

Match 5: Antonio Christiano Zambrano (w/ Alex Cypher) vs Johnny Rivera

ACZ is not quite ready for the Wild Hound’s explosive power. Big fallaway slam with a kip up…and runs right into a boot. Zambrano’s posts him and unloads in the corners. Big knee drop for two. Cypher gives him a squirt of hydration. He’s a good cornerman. Rivera throwing some heavy hands and a flying back elbow. Snap powerslam out of the corner for two. Cypher pulls out the yellow card to distract Rivera, Zambrano goes for the rollup but Johnny sits on it and traps the legs, The wild hound wins!!!!

Winner: Johnny Rivera

Match 6: Pedro Dones & Brad Hollister vs Mutually Assured Destruction (Rip Byson & Perry Von Vicious)

Brad isnt scared of pointy jackets and big hair. He wants to fight them NOW. They’re REAL MEN. Pedro just getting slammed around in the early going. Pedro finally kicks out the knee of Byson and the heels gang up on taking that wheel out. Desperate tag to Perry, bit of chaos, Rip and Dones sent to the floor…Perry runs in and Bacon hits a pop up powerbomb for the sudden win! Fast and quick, this was exactly what it needed to be.

Winners: Dones & Hollister

Match 7: Mortar vs CPA

Mortar wants everyone to take him seriously…he wore a tie to work today! He tries to rip off the fake tie of CPA but it’s a REAL TIE! Now the second tie? That’s a fake! Mortar sent to the ropes…and he clocks CPA trying the 1099. Suplex guts him onto the top rope. Mortar isn’t getting any respect for these chops so he just opts to go for the eyes. CPA fires back, comes off the rope but Mortar swats him down and hits a senton for two. Mortar trying to GCW ear him down with a headlock. Mortar to the top but CPA grabs the tie and tosses him down. Big powerbomb! 1099 connects with HUGE effect. Top rope dropkick! Mortar is too much for crunching numbers…but CPA hits a stunner. He wants a superplex but Mortar takes the eyes again and hits a twisting suplex off the ropes! Transition to a crossface! CPA tries to roll it to a pin but Mortar secures it deep and gets the tap!

Winner: Mortar

Match 8: Miracle Generation (Dustin Waller & Kylon King)(c) vs Milk Chocolate (Randy Summers & Brandon Watts) (for the IWTV Tag Team Championships)

Milk Chocolate would love to just hightail it with the belts but they have to WIN them. They are pretty much perfect annoying heels. Summers does not like it when Waller just starts schooling him around the ring. Kylon with a tag in and dumps Summers on his dome. Watts sent flying and it’s Miracle’s time to own the ring. MC with a quick strategy sesh and they quickly ambush Kylon into a beatdown in the wrong part of town. That…doesn’t last as Watts finds himself getting  splashed to death. Pull up northern lights from Kylon for two! Miracle diving but MC uses Dustin as a weapon to block Kylon. This just swung hard in the wrong direction. Suplex and Kip up from summers. Kylon begging his partner to stay in it. Tandem back drop for two. Dustin escapes but the ref is distracted for the tag. They try the double shoulderbreaker…Dustin slips it…tag to Kylon! Here comes the King! He goes wild, powerbomb To Watts but it’s not enough! Kylon left alone and Milk Chocolate hits a huge combo of shots. This was close but he makes the count at 2.9. Dustin flies in to break up the finish, handspring cutter! German with a high angle bridge! Miracle Generation retains!

Winners: Miracle Generation
 

Main Event: Tyree Taylor (w/ Brother Greatness) vs Fancy Ryan Clancy (Quarterfinal Round Wrestling Open Title Tournament Match)

It’s a big night for the Church. Can they go 2-0 tonight? Tyree is still mad that Worcester has turned on him…..but he kinda earned it. Clancy has a taped up hand and Tyree KNOWS IT. Huge toss across the ring. Fancy trying to wrap up this Goliath…he keeps the arm twisted despite Tyree’s best chances at freedom. Taylor pushes off and rolls out, in need of some spiritual counseling. The power of Christ clearly

Compelled Tyree back into that arm wringer though. Tyree finally catches Clancy and enziguris him off the top To the floor…ow. Clancy trying to get back in but Taylor sends him back to the floor. He’s more than happy to get the count out. Clancy back in and ready for the elbow drop. Clancy tries a sunset flip back in….nope. Tyree shoulder tackles him HARD. Kick out! This is just more beatings for Fancy tho. Clancy is looking like no one’s home as Tyree catches his neck on the top rope and slaps the life out of him. Hard knee to the gut. Ryan throwing hands and wants a slam but he doesn’t have that juice. Taylor hits a huge uranage for another two count. Taylor torturing him with huge clubbing blows but Clancy refuses to give up. He’s firing up in Tyree’s face and just gets backhanded into the mat. Clancy is limp but still has life. Greatness screaming at Tyree to win the title for the church. He tries another uranage, Ryan with an arm drag! Dropkick! Body splash! He’s throwing hands in the corner! Tyree rammed to the buckle! Clancy slams him!!! Huge pop! Fancy splash off the top but Tyree rolls away from pin. Ryan launches himself to the floor, wiping out Tyree and BG! He throws Taylor back in but that took some EFFORT.  Tyree dodges a dive but runs into a short ddt! Kick out but it’s CLOSE! Clancy readies himself for the side Russian…Tyree hits a huuuuuge discus lariat! Clancy is DOA as Tyree drags him to his feet for the powerbomb…Dezmond Cole is here!!! Tyree is distracted! Clancy runs in for the rollup and gets the three!!! Brother Greatness and Tyree run out the front of the White Eagle to try and catch Dezmond Cole! 

Winner: Fancy Ryan Clancy
