FULL AEW DYNAMITE BLOG

By Cory Strode on 2023-03-29 20:30:00

It is Wednesday and AEW Dynamite is at the Chaifetz Arena in St. Louis, MO. Our commentary team is Excalbur, Taz, and Tony Schiavone.

Jungle Boy Jack Perry vs Matt Hardy

After a series of unorthodox openings, this week is back to just starting with a match, and we do get Taz singing along with Jungle Boy’s music.  Matt Hardy gets people to chant along with his Delete motions.

The announcers put over how JB needs to win the match to stay in contention for the title.  They also say that JB chose to go solo instead of being a tag team wrestler.  Well, I guess that’s one way to say it. Another is that his tag team partner turned on him and beat him up before vanishing in a puff of “creative has nothing for you.”

We also get a couple of sequences where Ethan Page helps out Matt Hardy and the commentary team says it seems that they have made a real friendship.  Or Have They?

Matt is a consummate professional, and through the match he makes JB look strong. JB fires up after the picture in picture break, cut off by Ethan Page. As Page is on the apron complaining, SEND FOR HOOK!

As Hardy tries to hold Hook back, Page accidentally nails Hardy. With all the chaos, JB gets an elbow to the back of Hardy’s head for the pin and the win.  We get snippets of Darby Allin watching backstage, and Sammny Guevara making out with his wife instead of watching the screen.

Winner: Jungle Boy

MJF is out as soon as it’s over. He is out to complain about what JB said about him two weeks ago. He talks about how great his career is going and how JB is kinda mid. He says he has every right to be mad, but not at MJF, he should be mad at himself. He says after their match, he felt he’d met his equal and someone he respected. MJF said he told him he had to dump his friends, and now they have all either left or been turned on by them.

Now MJF is the world champion, and he is still just Jungle Boy. JB says maybe he wished he was more like MJF and says he wishes he was just as terrible as MJF. He says he just can’t do it, and when he beats MJF, he will have done it his way, and he won’t wake up alone every day and hate the person in the mirror.

MJF says his promo was really good. He says that JB is a massive disappointment and he’s weak. He then says that JB’s girlfriend says he’s weak between the knees. And the fight begins. JB stomps a mud hole in MJF, hits a lariat, and MJF bails.

Alex Marvez is with Don Callis and Kenny Omega. Don says that he lost his balance, and he asked why Omega thought Adam Page attacked him. He says that Omega needs to get ready for his match, and he will go apologize to Adam Page.

Matt Menard and Angelo Parker take The Acclaimed and Billy Gunn out for a night on the town. Max Caster says they will make a decision about joining Jericho’s team next week.

Dalton Castle and The Boys vs The Blackpool Combat Club

The BCC attack Castle on their way to the ring and it’s just gonna be a brawl. Claudio beats down on the Boy in the ring as Mox works over Castle and Yuta beats down the other Boy.Claudio hits a power bomb for the pin and the win.

Winners: Blackpool Combat Club

So much for Castle being the head of the former Three Man Tag Champion in ROH.

We then get an update about the Young Bucks being sent to the hospital last week, as well as the match between Omega and Vikingo.

We then get Kenny Omega challenging Jeff Cobb at NJPW New Year’s Dash for the NJPW US Championship.

Alex is with Adam Page and he explains that the Young Bucks are still injured. Don Callis interrupts and apologizes to him for making trouble between him and Kenny.  The BCC then jumps Adam Page, and then Mox gives Don a shot for good measure, and Mox doesn’t bleed…but Don Callis is busted open.

Kenny Omega (IWGP US Champion) vs Jeff Cobb

Tony Schiavone tells Kenny that Don Callis and Adam Page were attacked by the BCC as he heads to the ring. I guess this means that he’s too upset for Justin Roberts to give his over the top introduction.

Kenny has taped ribs, and Cobb wrestles as a power based heavyweight.

After the opening sequence is out of the way, Kenny tries to lift Cobb and collapses, with Cobb dropping on top of him. Cobb takes over and shows off his power moves after this sequence, and Cobb is an impressive guy. Kenny starts to make a comeback when we come back from picture in picture. Kenny tries to lift Cobb again, and can’t, so the One Winged Angel is out of the question.

The match has a lot of hard shots and power moves from Cobb as Kenny tries to work his normal moves and not having much effect on Cobb. Unlike last week’s spot fest, this is more of a war of attrition where Kenny is one step slower. Cobb hits a V Trigger and tries for a one winged angel and Omega escapes and can’t get Cobb up, so he hits a spinning clotheslines. Omega gets the one winged angel this time for the pin and the win.

Winner and still IWGP USD Champion: Kenny Omega

They had me fooled, and I was convinced Cobb was going to win. Also impressive that it was a completely different match than last week’s match.

The BCC shows up and circles the ring. As they get on the apron, Bryan Danielson shows and hits the ring, yelling at BCC to get off the apron. Bryan holds out his hand to help Omega up. Bryan then hits the Psycho Knee and locks on the Labell lock on Omega and the BCC joins in the beat down.

Security is beaten down by the BCC as Bryan keeps a hold on Omega.  The BCC get in the ring and stand tall over Omega.

We get a recap of the feud between FTR and the Gunns. We get a video with the Gunns who say they have been grinding it out and FTR is complaining and politicking. They say next week they will beat FTR and make them leave AEW.

Orange Cassidy (AEW International Champion) vs The Butcher

Butcher and Blade stomp Cassidy down before the bell, but the ref tosses Blade.

Butcher tosses Cassidy around the ring, and we are still seeing Cassidy as a more serious character as he builds a new series of moves to fit the change. Butcher looks strong here, but the match seems a lot like the one before it, with a hoss vs someone who relies on speed. Cassidy isn’t selling that he was hurt in the start of the match, but they do push that he’s not at 100%,

As Butcher is keeping the ref in the way to block the Orange Punch, Blade hits Cassidy with a crowbar. That brings out the Best Friends, and Cassidy is able to get the Orange Punch and a Beach Break to win.

Winner and still AEW International Champion: Oranger Cassidy

While it was an OK match, but it was too similar to the match right before it to have the impact it should have.

We then get a video from Jade Cargill about how she is upset with Taya Valkyrie and this week, if she uses the Ride of the Valkyries, their legal process server will serve Taya on Friday and they will sue her.

We then get a video where Juice Robinson will make an example of Action Andretti on Rampage.

Willow Nightingale vs Ruby Soho

Ruby has Saraya and Toni Storm at her side.

Willow normally bops to the ring as a 1980’s babyface, but we get to see her looking for revenge, and she gets a lot of offense to start the match. Ruby works hard to get heat, and Saraya attacks Willow when the ref is busy with Ruby. While Ruby came in as a babyface, it’s clear that she works so much better as a heel.

Both of them look good as the match goes with Willow pushing to hurt Ruby for revenge and Ruby cheating every chance she gets. Both of them are being served well by this match. Ruby gets the cheap win after Toni Storm interference and Ruby with her feet on the rope3es.

Winner: Ruby Soho

This time, instead of spray paint, they have a steel chair. They put t6he chair around Willow’s ankle as Riho and Skye Blue attack, but this time, they aren’t enough to turn the tide until Jamie Hayter runs to the ring and drives them off.

I just realized that Ruby lost her music and now has Team Outcast music.  Probably for the best, since Taz loved dancing and singing along.

It feels like we have two big “faction wars” we can do as we get closer to when they normally do Blood and Guts, with the BCC at four members, and The Elite about to be four members, plus the Outcasts are against a four person group of AEW originals. Will they bring in a fourth to Mone…I mean  even the odds?

We also have a loaded show in Long Island next week as they go down the card for next week.

We get a hype video of Powerhouse Hobbs.  No QTV this week, which is a massive blessing.

Adam Cole vs Daniel Garcia

I think Garcia is a great choice with Cole coming back as a babyface, and both men being mat based wrestlers. The match starts with a lot of hold/counter hold. The crowd is on Cole’s side and popping for anything he does.

During the picture in picture, Cole sells that he took a hard bump to the head during a pile driver.  They then have Garcia on the outside for a while, allowed Coel to get sympathy and Garcia to get heat.

When they come back to full screen, Cole gets a series of strike and the match moves from mat based to strikes. Garcia gets a German Suplex and it’s back to Cole’s head being injured. It feels weird to see a move like that actually treated as if it can hurt someone. After more strikes, Garcia gets a dragon tamer until Cole breaks it.

Cole takes another pile driver, and this time, Cole recovers quicker. Cole gets the Panama Sunrise and then the Boom knee for the pin and the win.

Winner: Adam Cole

Not a blow away match, but a good match to get Cole back in the fan’s eyes in his new role.

Britt Baker comes in the ring in street clothes.  She gives him a big kiss and we get streamers from the ceiling.

Then, it’s time for Chris Jericho. He takes Garcia out of the ring and ignores Cole. Jericho stops and looks over his shoulder before they go to the back.
