Craig Stimmel, WWE’s senior vice president and head of global sales and partnerships, was interviewed today by The Associated Press ahead of Wrestlemania 39, noting that sponsorship revenue for this year’s event has doubled to more than $20 million. This would be a record number for any WWE event and proof of success for everything former WWE CEO Stephanie McMahon had been pursuing during her time in the company as Chief Brand Officer and beyond before departing when Vince McMahon returned from his "retirement."
Stimmel, who noted that he believed WWE fans were more "accepting" to sponsorship and branding integration in WWE programming than traditional sports fans, commented, "WWE fans are fiercely loyal and dedicated, they are hooked, they crave storytelling and will be WWE fans for life,” Maxwell said. “This creates an amazing opportunity for savvy brands to connect with a unique audience for life.”
Stimmel also stated will incorporate corporate brands into this year’s Mania in many ways, including a match sponsorship, a “blurring of the fourth wall” between what home viewers see vs. what live audience members observe and an augmented reality experience. So, stay tuned for that.
