AEW SATURDAY RAMPAGE REPORT

By Cory Strode on 2023-03-25 23:05:00

It’s time for AEW Rampage and it was recorded after Dynamite on Wednesday at the Cable Dahmer Arena in Independence, MO. Our commentary team is Excalibur, JIm Ross, and Tony Schiavone.

Powerhouse Hobbs (TNT Champion) vs Penta El Zero Miedo

They jack jaws and shove each other to start the match and then trade chaps. They move to strikes and kicks. Penta drop kicks Hobbs out of the ring and then goes for a dive, but Hobbs cuts him off with an elbow strike.  Hobbs then beats down Penta outside the ring. Hobbs tosses Penta into the ring post. Hobbs then drops Penta neck first across the barricade.

Hobbs keeps beating up Penta on the floor before rolling him back in the ring for a two count. Pentas is able to get to the corner and gets a foot up for Hobbs first charge, but on Hobbs second, he grabs Penta for a back breaker. Hobbs chokes Penta in the ropes and when they break, QT Marshall ties his mask to the ropes. Hobbs attacks Penta in the ropes, and Alex unties Penta. Hobbs is able to get a delayed vertical suplex for two as we go picture in picture.

When we return to full screen, Penta is able to grab a sling blade and follows with a back stabber on Hobbs for a two count. Penta is cut off when Hobbs nails him with a head butt and grabs him with a one armed slam for two. Hobbs pulls down the straps of his singlet and tries to lift Penta, but Penta hits a series of elbows to stop him. Hobbs stops him with a strike to the back and then lifts him for a fireman’s carry. Penta escapes  and hits an insigiri, a kick to drive Hobbs from the ring, and then hits a Tope onto Hobbs on the floor.

Hobbs charges at Penta, and when Hobbs charges, Penta dodges sending Hobbs into the steel steps.  Penta puts Hobbs on the apron and hits a diving stomp. Penta hits another leaping stomp in the middle of the ring for two. Penta pulls Hobbs up and QT gets on the apron with a chair and the championship. As the ref tells him to get down, he drops the belt into the ring, and Alex grabs the chair from QT.

Across the ring, Aaron Solow leaps at Penta, but Penta nails him with a kick and hits the Fear Factor on him, but as the ref is rolling Splow out of the ring, Hobbs hits Penta with the belt. Hobbs hits Penta with a Town Business slam for the pin and the win.

Winner and still TNT Champion: Powerhouse Hobbs

QT holds Penta for a Hobbs attack, but Rey Fenix rushes to the ring with a bell hammer to drive them off.

An OK opener, but I can’t help but think that adding QT and his crew to Hobbs doesn’t add anything to Hobbs other than making us wonder if he can win a match on his own.

They air a video package on Kenny Omega leading to pushing his bout against Jeff Cobb on Dynamite.

Ricky Starks is out and says he’s had enough talking and calls out Juice Robinson. Juice says if it's an asskicking he wants, it’s an ass kicking he’ll get.  Juice walks to the ring and then heads to the back. Ricky grabs him and drags him to the ring. Juice escapes and gets in the crowd and says they will have their fight in New York City, not anywhere in Missouri.   They are in NYC on Wednesday April 5th.

Jeff Jarrett and Jay Lethal complain about how they have been treated by referees in AEW.

Brody King w/Julia Hart vs Jake Hager w/His Hat

They lock up collar and elbow and break clean. They test each other with shoulder tackles and neither goes down. They then start trading shots. Brody finally drills Hager with a double handed chop. They move to brawling on the floor. Hager is run into the barricade. Hager then runs Brody into the barricade. We then go to picture in picture where the Hoss fight continues.

When they return to full screen, Hager gets an Angel slam on Brody for two. Brody rolls to the outside and Hager takes a victory lap in the ring. When Brody gets on the apron, Hager knocks him down and celebrates again. Brody gets on the aspirin again, and Hager beats him down again. The third time, they trade blows and get into the ring as Brody gets a winging slam and a two count.

Brody tries for a piledriver, but Hager reverses into the ankle lock. Brody rolls out of it and then charges Hager in the corner. Brody goes for a cannonball and Hager dodges. Hager goes for the Hager bomb, and Brody gets his feet up and then hits a discus clothesline for two.

As they are both recovering, Ann Jay attacks Julia Hart at ringside and sends her into the ring post. Brody is distracted by that so Hager tries for the quick rollup and gets two. Brody is able to get Hager up and hits a slam for the pin and the win.

Winner: Brody King

Swerve Strickland said Keith Lee is going find Swerve has an associate we won't see coming.

Leila Grey vs Taya Valkyrie

Leila jacks her jaw at Taya and then shoves her. Taya responds with a clothesline takedown. They go to the ropes and Smart Mark Sterling gets on the apron with the cease and desist order, and Taya has to put the brakes on not to hit him. Leila then beats down Taya. Taya responds with chops, a kick, and then the Road to Valhalla for the pin and the win.

Winner: Taya Valkyrie

Sterling tries to serve the letter and Taya hits him with Road to Valhalla.

Angelo Parker and Matt Menard join the announce table to push the story that they are trying to recruit the Acclaimed to the Jericho Appreciation Society.

The Kingdom (Matt Taven and Mike Bennett) vs The Acclaimed (Max Caster and Anthony Bowens) w/Daddy Ass

Max and MIke start off, and the Kingdom work over Max with quick tags. Bowens gets a blind tag and the Acclaimed hit Mike with a back cracker/neck breaker combo for a two count. MIke and Bowens jockey for position, and Bowens is able to get a clothesline for two. Max is tagged in, and Mike gets hit with Scissor Me Timbers. Taven comes into the ring and is tossed out as we go to picture in picture.

When they return to full screen, the Kingdom has gotten tons of offense on the small screen on Max. The Kingdom is getting a series of two counts and quick tags. Billy Gunn chases Maria up the ramp. Top Flight comes out and they take over as Maria backs up the ramp and off stage. Gunn gives Bennett a clothesline and a crotch chop as he comes back to the ring.

Bowens gets the hot tag and takes down Taven. Bennett is rolled into the ring and Bowens hits a series of chops on him to drive him from the ring.  Bowens tags in Max and Bowens hits the Arrival and Max hits the Mic Drop for the pin and the win.  Parker and Menard yell “We did it” at commentary.
