3/19/23 Results from The New Japan Cup 2023 from Gunma, Japan:
1 - Shota Umino and Oskar Leube vs. Kosei Fujita and Zack Sabre Jr.
Umino taps out Fujita with an STF.
Kevin Kelly ask Umino if he wants a IWGP World Television Title. Umino says “Maybe.”
2 - Tomohiro Ishii, Toru Yano and Ryohei Oiwa vs. El Phantasmo, Chase Owens and KENTA
ELP pins Oiwa with an inside cradle.
3 - SHO, Yujiro Takahashi, Dick Togo and EVIL vs. Ryusuke Taguchi, Ren Narita, El Desperado and Minoru Suzuki
SHO hits Taguchi with his wrench while the referee was tied up with Togo.
SHO pins Taguchi.
4 - Kyle Fletcher and Jeff Cobb vs. Tomoaki Honma and YOSHI-HASHI
Cobb pins Honma after a Tour of the Islands
5 - Great O-Khan and Aaron Henare vs. BUSHI and Shingo Takagi
Henare tapped out BUSHI with Ultima.
After the match, Aaron Henare challenges Shingo Takagi for the KOPW 2023 Title. Henare pinned Takagi twice, so he chooses the match. Takagi accepts.
This match will most likely occur at Sakura Genesis in April.
6 - Lio Rush and YOH vs. Hiromu Takahashi and Tetsuya Naito
Naito pins YOH after hitting Destino.

7 - Semifinals: Tama Tonga vs. David Finlay
Finlay gets the advantage early with a Hot Shot and began working on Tama’s back. Finlay attack his back and went for submissions to wear Tama down. Tama comes back with a lariat that flips Finlay in a 360. Tama drops Finlay with strikes and hits a Stinger Splash. Finlay goes to the floor and Tama hits a plancha.
Back in the ring, Finlay hits a chop block on Tama’s leg. He hits Tama with cross face strikes. Finlay hits a lariat to the back of the head. Tama kicks out. Tama hits a Tonga Twist. They exchange strikes. Tama hits an SRC and a Supeme Flow. Two count. Finlay counters the Gun Stun into a Stunner. Two count. Finlay with a Blue Thunder Bomb and a spear. Two count. Tama traps him in a Sharpshooter. Finlay with an Irish Curse and a Dominator. Two count. Tama hits a Bloody Sunday. Two count. They exchange reversals. Finlay hits a Trash Panda.
Finlay pins Tama.
David Finlay advances to the Finals.
8 - Semifinals: SANADA vs. Mark Davis
SANADA comes to the ring with the Just Five Guys faction of TAKA Michinoku, Taichi, Yoshinobu Kanemaru and DOUKI.
SANADA takes off his mask and he has dyed his hair black, cut it short and clean shaven. Different look, much younger looking SANADA.
Mark Davis is accompanied by United Empire.
SANADA uses his speed to avoid Davis at the start. Davis with a slam and a senton. SANADA goes to the floor. Davis throws ink the guardrails and puts him on the apron. Davis hits a running knee lift to the face. They exchange reversals in the ring. Davis hit a spring board lariat sending SANADA to the floor. Davis hits a brutal tope suicida. SANADA kept fighting using his speed for quick strikes. Davis kept using power moves to stun SANADA. Very quick paced match. Davis with a high kick and sliding punch. SANADA with an OConner Roll. Two count. Davis pulled up SANADA by the legs and hit a Piledriver. Wicked! Two count. Davis went for a Water Slide. SANADA reverses out and hits the modified DDT.
SANADA pins Davis.
SANADA moves to the Finals to face David Finlay.
Really good match. Mark Davis has been a work horse on this tour. He deserves a lot of respect as an adequate replacement for Will Ospreay. Aussie Open should be major players in New Japan going forward.
Finlay and Gedo comes to the ring. Gedo tells him congratulations but the Rebel will be winning the New Japan Cup. Finlay and
Gedo leave.
