3/15/23 Results from New Japan Cup 2023 from Okayama Japan:
It was announced that Will Ospreay is out of the New Japan Cup due to a shoulder injury. Mark Davis will replace Ospreay against EVIL in the Quarter Final match.
1 - Yuto Nakashima vs. Aaron Henare
Henare gets the submission win with Ultima.
2 - Ryohei Oiwa, YOSHI-HASHI and Hirooki Goto vs. Jeff Cobb, Kyle Fletcher and Mark Davis.
Davis pins Oiwa after a Water Slide.
3 - TAKA Michinoku, DOUKI, Yoshinobu Kanemaru and Taichi vs. Dick Togo, SHO, Yujiro Takahashi and EVIL
Taichi forces Togo to tap out to Seitei Jujiro.
4 - Jado, Ren Narita and Tama Tonga vs. El Phantasmo, Chase Owens and KENTA
KENTA forces Jado to tap out to Game Over.
5 - Lio Rush, YOH, Tomoaki Honma, Toru Yano and Tomohiro Ishii vs. BUSHI, Hiromu Takahashi, SANADA, Shingo Takagi and Tetsuya Naito
YOH pins BUSHI after a Direct Driver.
New Japan Cup 2023 Matches:
6 - Round 2: Great O-Khan vs. David Finlay
Both men begin throwing punches and elbows. They brawl to the floor they hit the guardrails. Back in the ring, they grapple which O-Khan dominated. Finlay hit a chop block and hammered him with elbows. Finlay with an Irish Curse. O-Khan kicks out. Finlay hits two lariats but O-Khan won’t go down . Both hit a cross body. O-Khan applies the Sheep Killer. O-Khan goes for an Eliminator but Finlay reverses into a DDT. O-Khan hits a TTD. Two count. They exchanged reversals. Finlay hits a Trash Panda.
Finlay pins O-Khan.
David Finlay will move on in the tournament.
7 - Shota Umino vs. Zack Sabre Jr.
Good chain wrestling and grappling to begin. Umino was matching ZSJ hold for hold. Umino started hitting ZSJ in the neck. ZSJ changed the momentum by attacking Umino’s left arm. ZSJ went for his submission attacks, which bloodied Union’s nose. Umino gets control with an arm whip driving ZSJ into the ring apron. Umino began attacking ZSJ’s left arm using similar submission moves.
Umino is getting a lot of offense in. He spiked ZSJ with a DDT. He hit a Cross Rhodes twice and a Bloody Sunday. Two count. Umino with a swinging neck breaker. ZSJ reverses out of Death Rider. Umino counter a European Clutch with an OConner Roll. ZSJ reverses into a rear naked choke and transition into a double arm submission. Rope break. ZSJ connected with punt kicks. Umino hits a dropkick.
They begin throwing stiff elbows and uppercuts. Umino hits a tornado DDT and another cradle DDT. Umino goes for Death Rider. They exchange reversals. Umino hits a Death Rider.
Umino pins ZSJ.
Shota Umino will move on to face David Finlay in the next Round.
Good match. New Japan is pushing Shota Umino hard. He got a lot of offense in and ZSJ did sell a lot for him. This may lead to another IWGP Television Title match for Shota Umino.
