AEW DYNAMITE BLOG

By Cory Strode on 2023-03-08 20:40:00

It is Wednesday and AEW Dynamite is at the Golden 1 Center  in Sacramento, CA. Our commentary team is Excalbur, Taz, and Tony Schiavone.

Orange Cassidy (All Atlantic Champion) vs Jay Lethal

They have referees and agents out to keep the rest of the Lethal’s group to come to the ring with him. Cassidy’s Best Friends are sent to the back as well.

They start out with serious wrestling and a lot of takedowns and arm drags. There is a lot of hold/counterhold work showing the skills of both men. They move to brawling on the outside, and Letha’s shoulder gets run into the ring post, and Cassidy is throwing into the steps and a dragon screw in the ropes, so they will both be working with a handicap. Lethal takes over at this point, and hits a knee breaker into the ringpost as we go to picture in picture.

When we come back from commercial, Lethal is in control and mocking Cassidy. Cassidy gets a spinning DDT and we have moved to finishing moves. Cassidy can’t get the Orange Punch due to his knee, and Lethal locks on a figure four. Cassidy is able to get to the ropes for a break. As they move to the end fo the match, Lethal goes for a Lethal Injection and his shoulder can’t hold it, allowing Cassidy to get the Orange Punch for the pin and the win.

Winner and Still All Atlantic Champion: Orange Cassidy

Just a solid match without any of the silliness that Cassidy usually has in his matches. He and Lethal had a solid, well worked match and shows that Cassidy can work old school style.

Lethal tries to attack with the Golden Globe, and as Lethal is brought to the back, Jeff Jarrett comes to the ring and gives Cassidy The Stroke and then uses the guitar on Cassidy’s knee. The Best Friends show and drive off Jarrett.

We see the footage of Wardlow finding out his TNT Title belt has been stolen.  Renee Paquette is with Powerhouse Hobbs and he says it’s a shame what happened to Wardlow’s belt and gear, and it wouldn’t have happened to him, and tonight he’s taking the title from Wardlow.

Ricky Starks comes to the ring. And with the mic in his hand he says he doesn’t know what he’s going to do next. The music for the Bullet Club plays, Ricky turns to look, and Juice Robinson comes from the other side of the ring and lays him out. Hopefully they use this to introduce the US audience to Juice, on top of how good the matches will be.

Tony Schiavone is with Wardlow, who is wearing a FTR muscle shirt, and he says he’s dressed for the occasion so he wants the match to be falls count anywhere, no holds barred.

Renee is in the ring and calls Ruby Soho out for an interview.  She comes out with Saraya and Toni Storm, and they go to the back as she walks to the ring. Her gear now all had green outlines. She says it shouldn't be a surprise she sided with Saraya. She runs down how the crowds were always happy when she lost to a home grown hero. She then starts mocking the fans who were bad mouthing her, and she says that the AEW homegrown stars are a broken foundation. She then calls for Skye Blue to come out for their match.

Lots of fire in her promo, and with that, she is the first person in the “outsiders” to make a case for why they don’t care for the AEW stars.

Ruby Soho vs Skye Blue

Ruby stomps down Blue when she rolls into the ring and keeps up the attack any time Blue gets to her feet. Blue gets a little offence during the picture in picture, but then Ruby takes over, mocking her between moves and getting over that she’s gone full heel at this point. Blue gets another flurry.  BLue takes a bit too long between moves and Ruby has to look as if she’s stunned until Blue gets her next move done, but Ruby finally hits Destination Unknown for the pin and the win.

Winner: Ruby Soho

Saraya and Storm come to the ring with spray paint. As they are spraying, Willow Nightingale comes to the ring and starts yelling at Ruby. As she and Ruby are talking, Storm and Saraya attack her from behind. Saraya then spray paints both Willow and Skye Blue.

Renee is in the back with Adam Page, and she asks how he is doing. He says his mind, soul and heart, all is well. Renee asks if he and Jon Moxley are done. He apologizes to Renee for what she had to see at the PPV, but he is done with Jon Moxley.

MJF says in a taped segment that next week, he will have a re-Bar Mitzvah next week to celebrate his victory.

Tony is in the ring and he calls FTR to the ring to chat. The crowd is chanting FTR so loud they can’t be heard. Cash says the last few months have been bad for them, losing three sets of tag titles in a month. And then they lost Jay Briscoe. They said they needed to take a breath, but they couldn’t stay home and watch The Gunns call themselves the best tag team in wrestling. He says he will teach them how to be respectful.

Dax then says he wants to talk about how the fans made him feel like he can be loved. He says that now it is time for them to get even, but they will get the Gunns where it hurts and become the AEW Tag Team Champions.

Solid promo for their return.

Renee is with Jade Cargill and sks if she feels challenged. She says there are no challenges left for her in the US, she asks for a whack ass Canadian to step up and get stepped on.

Chris Jericho, Sammy Guevara, and Daniel Gacia vs Top Flight (Darius and Dante Martin) and AR Fox

Fox and Jericho start out and Fox dodges a series of clotheslines with kip ups and then has a series of high flying moves against Jericho. Sammy tags in and they take down Fox and all of the Jericho Appreciation Society do the Jericho/Sammy pose. Dante and Garcia both tag in and we get more high flying. Lots of pauses between moves by the JAS team and Dante is the babyface in peril during the picture in picture.

After picture in picture, Dante gets the hot tag to Fox and he is able to take out all of the JAS. He ends it with a cutter on Garcia for a two count. Darius is tagged in and after near fall, Garcia is able tag in Jericho who runs into a Spanish Fly. The tag team siren blares and all six men are in the ring and lots of flips and topes to the outside. It calms back to Darius and Jewricho, and Hager nails Darius with the bat on the outside and Jericho hits the Judas Effect for the pin and the win.

Winners: Chris Jericho, Sammy Guevara, and Daniel Garcia

They have a mic and we are told that JAS has been together for one year. Garcia says that they should be the number one contenders for the Trios championship. Jericho calls out the House ofBlack.

And then the lights go out….and The Elite are on the stage.

Kenny Omega starts to talk about how they are the best Trio in the world, and Don Callis grabs the mic from them and says they are the number one contenders. Jericho calls them to the ring.

The light go out and we see the House of Black on the big screen. The lights come on again, and he says if the two teams want the titles, to come get them.

The lights go out again and we hear…something. The lights come on and the House fo Black is gone.

We then get an announcement from Tony Khan saying the Orange Cassidy vs Jeff Jarrett and the All Atlantic title will be changing to the International Championship as a tie in to the new Shazam movie.

I have absolutely no idea what that has to do with Shazam, but if that’s what Discovery wants, it’s what Discovery gets!

We then get a video of Bryan Danielson after the PPV match on Sunday, and his first instinct was to fight, but he couldn’t feel one of his arms. He says MJF was right and he was putting himself before his family. He says it’s time for him to go home.

Jon Moxley and Claudio Castagnoli vs John Silver and Alex Reynolds

Silver and Claudio start, but Mox tags in quickly. Mox and Claudio tag in and out quickly while working over Silver. Claudio and Silver battle over who can hit a suplex, and they both fight out of it back and forth until Silver hits it. Claudio and Mox go back to tagging in and out quickly. Claudio moves to mat wrestling, allowing Silver to look impressive with hsi strength.

Silver tags in Reynolds and he gets a lot of blows, hitting Claudio with kicks and strikes. Mox and Claudio take over as we go picture in picture. Silver gets the hot tag when we get back to full picture, after Claudio cuts him off the first time. Silver gets a flurry of big moves on Mox up until he gets a two count. Silver gets out of Mox’s triangle choke and works his own submission hold, broken up by Claudio.

Claudio starts taunting Silver, and it backfires on him.  All four men are fighting in the ring. Clauduio and Silver fight on the outside, and Mox is able to lock a front Anaconda Vice, causing Reynolds to pass out.

Winners: Jon Moxley and Claudio Castagnoli

Mox keeps up the attack after the win and Claudio distracts the ref from breaking them up. Claudio keeps Silver from hel;ping and Mox locks on a bulldog choke, and Evil Uno rushes to the ring to break it up. They take him out and Adam Page comes to the ring and they all beat Page down.

Referees fill the ring to pull everyone apart.

The Acclaimed are with Renee and they start a promo, but they are interrupted by Matt Menard and Angelo Parker who ask if they want to team with since they are sports entertainers. The Acclaimed and Billy Guss laugh at them and leave.

Wardlow (TNT Champion) vs Powerhouse Hobbs No Holds Barred/Falls Count Anywhere

Wardlow and Hobbs are fighting in the back already. They fight on Wardlow’s rental car and they will NOT get the safety deposit back. Wardlow gets slammed into a door, Hobbs gets suplexed into the windshield, and they brawl on wooden pallets as we go picture in picture.

When they return to full screen, they are fighting in the crowd. Wardlow tosses Hobbs over the barricade and then into the ring. Both men are in street gear and they slam each other, and each pops right back up. Wardclow goes for a power bomb, and Hobbhs escapes out the back and hits a pair of spine busters. This is just gonna be a big move hoss fight, which is what both men need at this point.

Wardlow is put through the barricade and Hobbs sets up a table. Wardlow lays Hobbs on the table and hits a swanton from the top through the table on the floor for a two count. Damn that was impressive to watch Wardlow fly. Wardlow power bombs Hobbs on the ramp, and the impact hurts him as well. Wardlow drags Hobbs to the announcer’s table.

QT Marshall nails Wardlow with a chair, and then hits a low blow on Wardlow before nailing him with a chair again. He is wearing a shirt that says QTV. QT and Hobbs shake hands and Hobbs picks up Wardlow. They both toss Wardlow off the stage. Wardlow then unable to answer the ten count.

Winner and new TNT Champion: Powerhouse Hobbs

QT stated that The Factory was done on Dark, and the announcers remind us that QT said he would always have Hobbs back.
