COMPLETE AEW DYNAMITE BLOG

By Cory Strode on 2023-03-01 20:03:00

It is Wednesday and AEW Dynamite is at the Cow Palace in San Francisco CA. Our commentary team is Excalbur, Taz, and Tony Schiavone and we start off hot with the AEW All Atlantic Championship on the line.

Orange Cassidy (AEW All Atlantic Champion) vs Big Bill w/Stokely Hathaway

Stokely Hathaway still wears a cast saying the Hook injured him.

Cassidy starts with mind games by stalling, getting out of the ring and making Bill chase him. After Cassidy makes Bill chase him around the ring, he finally gets a side slam. This leads to Cassidy being made into a super ball to bounce around inside and outside the ring. It all leads to Cassidy being put through a table as we go to commercial.

Danhausen has come down to ringside during the commercial because they haven't done anything with him and he still sells tons of merchandise. Cassidy gets a couple of bit where he collapses to avoid kicks, and then Cassidy starts getting offence.  Cassidy pulls off three Orange Punches, including one off the top for the pin and the win.

Winner and still All Atalntic Champion: Orange Cassidy

Odd choice for a match on the go home show, and an odd choice for Big Bill’s first spotlight Dynamite match.  I get that they want to show that Cassidy is able to out think other wrestlers, but shouldn't Big Bill get some Big Wins to show he’s a force to be feared.

We then get an interview with a bloody Jon Moxley from last week in a stairway.  He was still bleeding as he hypes up the Texas Death match between him and Adam Page.

The Elite come to the stage, and the lights go  out and their music stops. The House of Black takes them out and holds their Trios belts.

Samoa Joe comes out in a suit to be on commentary for the Face of the Revolution Ladder match coming up next.

The winner of the Face of the Revolution Ladder Match gets a TNT Title shot at…NOT REVOLUTION!

This match is just chaos and Excalbur tries to get us caught up on who is involved, but after a lot of brawling around the ring, we get high spots in the ring one by one. I feel bad for Anthony trying to write the match up, since it is set up just to be a spot fest, which probably comes off a lot better in person. Takeshida is getting the lion’s share of ring time, and Kommander is also getting a good spotlight.

Action Andretti hits a Falcon Arrow on Sammy Guevara from the top of a ladder onto a ladder bridged between the ropes and a ladder. That was an insane spot.  Sammy wants to show us that he wants a career as short as Darby Allin. Andretti getting up and continuing the match after that move is just insane. Sammy then goes to the top of the highest ladder and hits a swanton onto Andretti on a ladder on the floor.

Daniel Garcia then helps Sammy into the ring and up the ladder. Takeshida gets knocked off a ladder by Powerhouse Hobbs, and then Hobbs climbs the ladder (with referees holding the ladder because it’s beat up) to grab the win.

Wardlow then comes out to confront Samoa Joe and the security guards come out to stop him, and Wardlow takes them all out as Joe leaves.

In the back, Renee says that the Best Friends are not medically cleared to be in the tag team battle royal. Danhausen says he and Orange Cassidy will take their place, and Cassidy looks beat to hell, and when asked if he’s OK to be in a match, he says, “I don’t care.”

Jericho is now on his way to the ring.

Chris Jericho vs Peter Avalon

Avalon’s new look now that he’s working the indys makes him look nothing like his Librarian persona. He gets most of the attack in this one since Jericho took him out last week. Jericho gets a quick win with a codebreaker.

Winner: Chris Jericho

Jericho goes after Avalon with Floyd the bat. Starks runs to the ring for the save and Jericho bails. He then tells Ricky Starks he will beat the hell out of him. Jake Hager and Daniel Garcia join Jericho and beat Starks down.

We then get a video of Adam Page at his farm, and he says he has nothing left for Mox to take from him, so this Sunday, he will take away everything from Moxley.

Next up is Christian Cage in the ring with Renee Paquette. Really hope they move him out of the feud with Jungle Boy, since he is such a great heel, and this feud has been going on forever. Cage gives a promo about how he won't allow Jungle Boy to win a single title.  LOTS of fire in this promo. He challenges JB to a fight at Revolution. No rules, just a fight.

The lights go out and The House of Black shows up!

No, no, no, we get a video from Jungle Boy about the con-chair-tos that have been delivered.

In the back, Tony is with Jamie Hayter and Britt Baker where they talk about how they will be at ring side later tonight in case Saraya shows up.

Hook (FTW Champion) vs Matt Hardy if Hook Wins, he gets a no DQ Match against Stokely Hathaway

Hook has to deal with Ethan Page when he is outside the ring.  The story of the match is that Hook goes for takedowns, but Matt is playing to the crowd every time he gets some offense. Stokely isn’t wearing his sunglasses so that he can show how scared he is when Hook gets his moves in.

Ethan Page takes off Stokely’s cast and nails Hook with it when the ref isn’t looking. Harry gets a two count, but Hook is able to quickly get a rear choke on Hardy, who immediately taps out.

Winner: Hook

We then get a promo from the House of Black, holding the titles. Malakai Black says they will leave the titles but that the Elite have already lost.

Hook vs Hardy was all storyline as we have Matt moving back to benign a babyface on his own, and Hook being able to beat the crap out of Hathaway at the PPV, and it would be dull if not for how Hathjaway is overselling it.  He is the one making this a fun storyline.

Toni Storm vs Riho

Storm attacks Riho before the bell and just tosses her around. Riho is able to recover and get her speed to make her seem credible in the match. With Saraya on the outside, it’s only a matter of time before she attacks Riho and does so on the floor. This brings out Britt Baker and Jamie Hayter to ringside as we go to picture in picture.

When we come back, Riho gets a leap from the top onto Storm on the floor and Britt Baker is cheering for her. Is it time for Baker to turn babyface with this home grown talent vs invaders feud?  I know she was a dull babyface when they started, but maybe she’s finally figured out how to be an interesting babyface.

In the final third of the match, Storm keeps using finishers, but when Storm is distracted by Baker, Riho gets an awkward pin for the win.

Winner: Riho

Hayter and Saraya fight in the ring, and Baker and Storm fight outside the ring.  Ruby Soho runs to the ring and takes out Saraya and then attacks Hayter. As all three women fight, referees come to the ring to break them up and security joins them.

In the back, Keith Lee and Dustin Rhodes talk about how they will beat down Mogul Associates on Rampage.

It’s now time for the Revolution Tag Team Battle Royal. As they come to the ring, John Silver and Alex Reynolds are attacked on their way to the ring by Wheeler Yuta and Claudio Castagnoli, and we go to picture in picture.

When we come back to full screen, La Faccion Igobernable is out next. Claudio and Rush batter each other in the middle of the ring until the Lucha Brothers are next to the ring. They get their spotlight and then it’s back to everyone working at the edges of the ring. Aussie Open is out to the ring next, so it looks like they will be around for a while.

Dark Order are the first ones out, taken out by Yuta and Cluadio.

Out after the commercial is Top Flight. Looks like {Angelo Parker and Matt Menard came out during the break.

The Kingdom is out next, first time we’ve seen them in a while.Daviari, Woods and Nese attack the Lucha Brothers on the floor and then roll them back into the ring as they are not in the match. Thai leads to the Lucha Brother being eliminated. La Facción Ingobernables is eliminated next.  Top Flight is done as Danhausen and Orange Cassidy come out.

Butcher and the Blade are next up, and at least one of the Jericho Appreciation Society has been eliminated. Aussie and The Kingdom are eliminated. Next out are the Blackpool Combat Club.

The last two teams are Butcher and Blade, and Danhausen and Orange Cassidy.

Danhausen is able to eliminate Butcher and Blade.

Winners: Danhausen and Orange Cassidy

Jay Lethal and Jeff Jarrett attack them after the match with the Gunn by their side, and the Acclaimed come to the ring for the save.

We get a video package to hype MJF vs Bryan Danielson.

We close the show with Bryan Danielson in the ring with Renee Paquette. She references MJF dropping out of college to go into wrestling. Daneilson starts to talk about his return to wrestling, and MJF comes to the stage. Bryan says that MJF has been talking about how deserves things, but he doesn’t deserve anything other than his fiancee leaving him. Danielson gives a hell of a promo about how he fought for everything in his life, and he’s going to fight to win the AEW championship.

MJF looks utterly shocked when Bryan is done. MJF turns and walks and we are desperately out of time!
