Create-A-Pro Wrestling “Oh Baby”

2/19/23 - Lynbrook, NY

“Wait a minute, WHERE are you?”. Happenstance put me in NYC this week and Create A Pro is running not that far away on Long Island. The CAP school, with head trainers Brian Myers and Pat Buck, features a lot of the folks I see regularly at Wrestling Open so coming out to see a show on more of their home turf was a no-brainer for me. Also apparently their tag team champs are MARK STERLING & SLADE, working as the brilliantly named “Better Call Slade”. We are SOLD OUT in Lynbrook tonight! They are adding chairs to accommodate everyone that’s here! Let’s do this!

Match 1: Better Call Slade (Smart Mark Sterling & SLADE)(c) vs Birds of the Sun (Leo Sparrow & GKM) vs Brick City Boys (Victor Chase & JCruz) vs Midlife Express (CPA & Kevin Tibbs) (Fatal 4-way for the CAP Tag Team Championships)

We’re kicking it off with the tag title match! This is a very Pro-CPA crowd…but they clearly love SLADE. None of their opponents want a piece of the man from Rikers Island. Sterling is reveling in being on a team with someone the crowd likes. Is he actually a face here or is this by proxy?!? I don’t know how to handle this. Birds of the Sun really trying to not engage but SLADE gets his hands on Leo and WELP. The crowd IS cheering for Sterling in the tag. What? This is a fun parallel universe I’ve fallen into. Apparently everyone hates Birds of the Sun as even Brick City are making them the butt of the joke. CPA tripping up Sparrow, Chase with the blind tag and Brick City starts working over the competition. Tibbs tags in but he walks right into a Brick House. GKM in to snag the pin but Tibbs won’t stay down. “WE HATE BIRDS” yell the crowd at their cawing. Bricks trying to get involved but CPA pulls the rope and they go over the top. Tope from the apron! Missile dropkick to GKM! Kick out! BCB with the tandem worlds strongest slam! Birds and Bricks stomping out CPA to loud boos before Sterling and SLADE make the save! The champs owning the ring! Double double chokeslam! Birds almost steal it after blindsiding Sterling while the ref was distracted. Save by Tibbs! CPA ripping off shirts! 1099! Tibbs hits Sparrow with a double stomp and CAP has new tag champs!!! Crowd loving this flip.

Winners: Midlife Express

Match 2: JGeorge vs Kevin Kiley Jr (Celsius Live Fit in the Clear match)

The former Alex Riley is here and participating in whatever the hell this match type is. It’s a JGeorge special for sure. JGeorge makes like he’s gonna dive over the corner buckle but it’s a fake out. Nice little bit. Kiley is hesitant to engage and JGeorge is owning the early moments. JGeorge’s goons distract Kiley as he tries to come after their boss, allowing JGeorge to hit a backstabber! JGeorge is very polarizing in this room but he’s definitely getting cheers, despite his best efforts. He hits a pump kick but Kiley doesn’t stay down. Hot shot from Kiley and he starts hitting lariats and a spinebuster for two. JGeorge has the scene clapper, the ref takes it! Throat thrust! Skulk crushing finale! Kiley kicks out. JGeorge misses a big boot and Kiley hits a ddt for the win. The match is over. I have no idea what this “stipulation” was supposed to be but maybe that’s the point. 

Winner: Kevin Kiley Jr

Match 3: Brian Myers & Heath vs Adrenaline Express (VSK & Eric James)

This crowd is very much here for James’ rendition of “I want It that way” but they pop off for Heath & Myers. James tries to sing to Heath but it’s a ruse…Heath doesn’t fall for it and James is just getting pummeled. Heath is too tall to stand on the top rope! VSK tags in but Myers takes him right down. James with the distract and VSK superkicks him off the apron! Adrenaline express just unloading on Myers. Tornado splash for two. Myers with a flatliner out of nowhere! Tag to Heath! Snap powerslam to VSK! Kick out! Pop up facebuster! James in to help, dVd neckbreaker to a Pk to a top rope splash! Heath kicks out! Myers in but VSK gets blasted by Myers. Side Russian from Heath, elbow drop from Myers! Heath kicks James off the apron and they get the three!

Winners: Brian Myers & Heath

Match 4: Ariela Nyx Invitational Battle Royal for the Interim CAP Championship 

Ever since Bryce Donovan got injured, CAP has been without their big belt champion. Today they crown a new champ…with the caveat that they have to face Donovan in a unification match when he’s good to go. Nyx is out here to introduce the battle Royal. The crowd clearly dislikes her. I’m gonna be completely phonest, I don’t know a lot of the people in this battle Royal but here’s who I do know of (plus everyone who was announced on Twitter):

Steve Somerset, J-Heru, Will Strausman, Hunter Millman, Tristan Kyle, JJ Doze, The Sweeper, Evil Kip, Dr Cool, Jey Mesias, Nick Robles, Dante Drago, Jack Tomlinson, Phil Cardigan, Liam Davis, Sebastian Amore, Ori Gold, Hadar Horvitz

Amore decides to introduce himself on the mic. This prompts everyone to immediately throw him out. Good pop but it’s time to fight. J Heru is doing his pose and everyone gets confused that this is a Robert Deniro thing and it’s a pile of “you talking to me”. Better Together tossed quickly. Evil Kip taking advantage where he can, getting two quick eliminations. Sweeper is hiding down in the corner with his broom. Heru tossed but Kip is right behind to scavenge another elimination. Sweeper is choking Kip with his broom! VBU work to eliminate Robles. They play keep away with the broom. This is a mistake. Drago eliminates…the broom?!? Sweeper with a side Russian. This crowd is HOT for sweeper and this is the moment Tomlinson pulls the rope and sends him flying. We’re down to VBU, Somerset, Kip, Liam Davis, & Dr Cool. Drago and Tomlinson send Somerset crashing into the barricade. Drago whipped into clotheslining Tomlinson over the top by Liam! He quickly tosses a shocked Drago but Kip picks up another scavenging elimination and sends Davis to the floor. Kip vs Dr Cool is the final two! Huuuuuge spear to Kip. They battle to the apron. Dr Cool goes for a piledriver! Back body drop! Dr Cool is down!l to the floor! Kip won?!? 

No! Phil Cardigan is still in this??? Where’s he been? Spinning back kick to Kip and he gets tossed! The crowd pops hard for this win! Big “you deserve it” chanting.

Winner (and interim CAP Champion): Phil Car…..

Ariela Nyx is here to present the belt…but she said that one person who accepted her invitation didn’t come out yet…it’s the Dominican Destroyer, Vargus! Cardigan looks worried and he tries to chug some coffee to amp up. A huge lariat and Vargus tosses him right out. Welp. 

Winner (and interim CAP Champion): Vargas

Nyx laughs at the crowd for being shocked that she set up Vargas for this victory. She’s got a message for Bryce Donovan when he comes back…Vargus hits a worlds strongest slam! He’s going for the kill as Bryce Donovan’s music hits! Is he cleared? Nyx dares Bryce to unify the titles right now. Is he scared? Bryce isn’t scared. Nyx with a low blow from behind and Vargus hits a Dominican Spike to drop Donovan. Thank god this wasn’t an official match. The CAP locker room empties to demand Nyx and Vargus get out of here. There’s a little kid next to me yelling “THIS IS BULLS***” and visibly upset that Vargas got the W like this. Sometimes wrestling is so good.
 

Match 5: B3CCA vs Notorious Mimi

Fresh off her win over IWTV Champion Matt Tremont, Becca is here to take Mimi for a trip to Pop Star City. Mimi with a gutwrench takedown early. Crossbody! Mimi tries a 619 but Becca pulls her out and posts her. Flying shotgun sends Mimi flying. The crowd is not loving Becca right now, as she thuds a chop into the chest. Kick to the gut, snap suplex, Mimi kicks out! Back and forth pin attempts, double boot double down! Back and forth shots, Mimi is left standing. Becca blocks a headlock and blasts a German for two. Becca eats a reverse tko for two! Mimi tries a boot but it’s stuffed. Becca with a senton and lionsault! Kick out! Mimi hits a 619 and a big boot puts Becca out!

Winner: Notorious Mimi

Match 6: TJ Crawford vs Bronson 

TJ is limping hard to the ring. Bronson is overjoyed. It’s a ruse!!!! TJ comes running and sends Bronson to the floor! Bronson is clearly NOT ready for this level of fire as he eats a running boot on the barricade! Bronson throwing  chops but TJ is on fire. He hits a dozen in the corner but Bronson pushes him off and spears the knee. Yeow! Bronson choking TJ with his shirt! Now we have the match Bronson expected, him walking down TJ and pummeling him repeatedly. Bronson is just merciless now. TK with up kicks to make space but Bronson kicks the knee out, double underhook facebuster! Single leg crab! If TJ’s knee was feeling okay before the match, it definitely ain’t now. TJ pushes Bronson off…Bronson eats the post! Hard back elbow! Headkick! Bronson eating stuff rights! Spinning head kick! Brain bussssssstahhhhh! Kick out! Crowd hot for both these guys, TJ landing hard chest kicks! Bronson weathering the storm, he kicks the knee again, saito suplex!  TJ kicks out! Bronson getting into it with a ringside fan and threatens to EAT HIS FAMILY. Waaaaaaaaa— hard shots to the back…TJ fighting back, he bites Bronson’s head! Powerbomb out of the corner!!! Bronson struggling but TJ hitting snap dragons! Bronson’s had it and goes for chairs. TJ comes in and Bronson just blasts him. Ring the bellllll. Bronson is furious and goes for more but TK gets the chair and sends Bronson running. Big “let them fight” and “no DQ” chants but Bronson heads to the back after he stares up at TJ, holding down the ring. TJ has just been on a tear lately and despite liking him better when he was a bear

Winner: TJ Crawford (by DQ)

Main Event: Bobby Orlando(c) vs Aaron Rourke (I Quit Match for the CAP TV Championship)

Rourke right in as Orlando is being introduced. Foot choke in the corner, there’s no way Orlando gives up now! Bobby sends Aaron out quick, tope suicida! He blasts Rourke with a cane from a ringside fan! Rourke slams his hand into the post and wrenches Bobby’s arm in the barricade! Bobby won’t give in! Rourke chops the post! Bobby smashes him to the barricade and bites Rourke! We have a kendo stick fight! Rourke disarmed and gutted on the wood! He doesn’t quit tho. Mom has a chair! Rourke with a backstabber! Will Bobby quit? “Hell no, Bish!” Rourke eats the chair! He refuses to quit! Bobby whiffs a dab elbow into the chair. Oh nooooooo! Rourke is loading the ring with garbage cans and lids. Rourke grabs the mic and offers Orlando a chance to live. Nope. He puts the van over Orlando and pummels it with the kendo stick. Rourke crushes the can but Bobby refuses. Rourke grabs a door! Orlando does not want to go through. Rourke choking out Bobby with his crop top. Bobby backpacks him and drives Rourke through the door! Rourke laughs and refuses to quit so Bobby unloads with door shot after shot. Dab elbow into a door draped Aaron. Quit? NOOOOO! More doors and we’re setting ‘em up outside. Rourke almost gets burning hammered out of the ring! Slingshot spear to Orlando! Both guys are exhausted! Rourke with a running boot. He stacks up all the trash he can in the center before rubbing his butt in Bobby’s face. He gives Bobby another chance to not die. He’s our mom. Sunset flip bomb into the metal! Deep Boston crab! Rourke will not quit. Bobby kicked into the post, Rourke with a tilt a whirl crossface! He chokes Bobby with the kendo stick! Bobby frees himself and starts swinging like mad. They crawl to the apron, Rourke’s gonna German Bobby through the door? Bobby fights it off but Rourke chokeslams him down through the door. Disgussssting bump but Mom says no quitting. Rourke’s going for the duct tape. He ties up Bobby’s hands so he can’t block any of the shots that are coming. Rourke demands Bobby quit one last time. Mom says no. Rourke says now he has to hurt him. He swings a garbage can lid but Bobby ducks and Rourke eats it off the rope! Bobby wraps his taped arms around Rourke’s throat and arches back. Rourke has nowhere to go and has to struggle to get the words out: I QUIT! Absolutely nuts main event. Loved this!

Winner: Bobby Orlando

 

And that's it for Create-A-Pro "Oh Baby"! This was a quick, fun show. Plenty of little story beats that worked even for someone like me who didn't know the specific story of this place. The fans were energized and kept the action hot. This was a really fun Sunday afternoon and I'll likely come again if I wind up in NY on a show weekend again!
