TITLE CHANGES, LOSER LEAVES JAPAN AND MORE: 2/11 NJPW NEW BEGINNING IN OSAKA REPORT

2/11/23 Results from New Japan’s The New Beginning in Osaka from the Edion Arena

1 - Toru Yano and Oskar Leube vs. Great O-Khan and Aaron Henare

Henare pins Leube after a Rampage

2 - Tiger Mask, Ryusuke Taguchi, Tomoaki Honma and Shota Umino vs. BUSHI, Hiromu Takahashi, SANADA and Tetsuya Naito 

Hiromu pins Taguchi after a Time Bomb II.

After the match, LIJ poses in the ring.   A video plays of Lio Rush who challenges Hiromu Takahashi for the IWGP Jr. Heavyweight Championship.

Hiromu accepts the challenge.

3 - Master Wato vs. Taiji Ishimori 

Very even match until Ishimori stunned Wato with a stiff knee to the face.   Ishimori hits a Bloody Cross.

Ishimori pins Wato.

Ishimori avenges his pinfall losses in tag matches with a clean win over Wato.

4 - KENTA vs. Hiroshi Tanahashi 

Both men were evenly matched until KENTA bumped into the referee.  KENTA blasts Tanahashi with a chair.  KENTA misses a double stomp.   Both hit drop toe holds into the chair.   They exchange strikes.   KENTA hits a Green Killer and a Mafia Kick.  KENTA goes for a GTS but Tanahashi reverses into a Slingblade.   Tanahashi hits another Slingblade and Aces High.   Tanahashi hits the High Fly Flow.

Tanahashi pins KENTA.

5 - NEVER Openweight 6-man Championship Match:  Ren Narita, El Desperado and Minoru Suzuki vs. SHO, Yujiro Takahashi and EVIL, with Dick Togo

House of Torture attacked Narita on his way to the ring.  SHO blasts Narita with the belt, leaving him laying in the entryway.  House of Torture beat down Desperado and Suzuki, four on two.   Narita makes his way back to the ring for the hot tag.   Wild brawl.  

Suzuki traps EVIL in an Octopus Lock.   Desperado locks SHO in Numero Dos.  

Narita traps Yujiro in a Cobra Twist.   Yujiro taps out.

Minoru Suzuki, El Desperado and Ren Narita win the NEVER Openweight 6-man Tag Team Championship.

Suzuki hugs Narita after the match.  Desperado and Suzuki raise the arms of Narita.  

Suzuki takes the mic and tells House of Torture to get out of here.  He puts over Desperado and Narita and the crowd.   He tells the crowd that he has a present for them.  He tells the crowd that the the of them are now known as “Strong Style”.    

Suzuki leads the crowd to sing “Kaze Ni Nare!”

Awesome moment for Ren Narita.

6 - Loser Leaves Japan Match:  Hikuleo, with Jado vs. Jay White, with Gedo

Jay tries to keep his distance.  Hikuleo hits a big boot and whips him across the ring.   Jay takes Hikuleo over the top rope to the floor.   Hikuleo chopped the soul out of Jay’s chest.   Jay is whipped over the guardrail into the crowd chairs.  Gedo distracted Hikuleo and Jay sends him into the guardrail.   Back in the ring, Jay hits a DDT.  Hikuleo whips Jay into the turnbuckle headfirst.  Hikuleo with turnbuckle splash and power slam.   Two count.    Jay hits a chop block on the left knee and goes to work on the leg.  Jay with Saito suplex and a Bladebuster.   Two count.  Gedo distracts the referee and Jay beats Hikuleo with a chair.   Jay hits a Kiwi Krusher.  Two count.

Jay chops him while Hikuleo hulks up.   Hikuleo hammers Jay with chops.  Hikuleo hits a snap power slam.   Hikuleo goes for a chokeslam but Jay falls into the referee.  Jay with a low blow.  Jay gets referee up.   Hikuleo with a lariat.  Hikuleo goes for another snap power slam but Jay turns it into a Bladerunner.   Jay goes for another Bladerunner.  Hikuleo blocks it pulls him up into a Last Ride.   Two count.

Hikuleo grabs Jay by the throat.  Jay slowly gives the Two Sweet Salute.    Hikuleo returns the Salute.  Hikuleo hits a Chokeslam.

Hikuleo pins Jay White.

Jay White must now leave Japan.

Hikuleo gives the Two Sweet Salute to Jay White and pats his chest, almost as if he is saying thank you to the leader of Bullet Club.

Gedo picks up Jay and they leave the ring.  Jay fist bumps Hiroshi Tanahashi at ringside commentary.   Gedo and Jay White pose on the ramp before the Osaka crowd applauds him one last time.

Jay White has accomplished a lot in New Japan as a singles wrestler.  Tag belts would be a step down for him.  It makes sense if he wants to build on his  career in New Japan Strong or potentially AEW or Impact.  White tried once in AEW with little fanfare.  We shall see where he goes from here.

7 - NEVER Openweight Championship Match:  The l Phantasmo vs. Tama Tonga, with Jado

No silliness by ELP, selling the idea that Bullet Club just lost their leader.   Both men started the match slow and methodical.    Both tried for their finishers early.   ELP slapped Tama in the face and Tama attacked with strikes and they go to the floor.  Tama whipped ELP but he leaped over the guardrail.  Tama went for a flying body attack and ELP dodged and Tama hit the second guardrail and fell into the chairs.  Tama hurt his wrist.  ELP went after the wrist with submissions and stomps on his right wrist.  

Tama fights back and tweaks ELP’s leg with three dragon screws.  Tama applies the Scorpion Death Lock.  ELP gets to the ropes.  ELP with a back rake and a neck breaker.    They trade strikes.    Tama hits a Supreme Flow.  Two count.  ELP blocks a Gun Stun.  Tama with a TKO.  Two count.   Tama goes for a Jay Driller but ELP escapes.  ELP hits a Styles Clash.    Two count.   Tama hits a Bloody Sunday.  Two count.  ELP hits Sudden Death.  Two count.

They exchange near falls.   ELP hits CR2.  Two count.  Tama hits a Gun Stun.  Two count.   Tama hits a Jay Driller.

Tama pins ELP.

Tama Tonga retains the NEVER Openweight Championship.

Solid match.  The story of who will lead Bullet Club continues.  

8 - IWGP World Heavyweight Championship Match:  Shingo Takagi vs. Kazuchika Okada

Both men start methodical and with grappling and chain wrestling.  Takagi uses his power to take early control.  Takagi goes to the top rope but Okada knocks him to the floor.  Okada wrenched Takagi’s neck against the guardrail and kicked him in the neck.  Okada was getting some boos.   Back in the ring, Okada hits a dropkick and attacks Takagi’s neck.  

Takagi fights back with strikes.   Takagi hits a lariat and back suplex.  Takagi with quick punches and a DDT.  Okada is hit with a lariat that sends him to the floor.  Takagi whips him into the guardrail.   Takagi with a Hotshot on the apron and then a Death Valley Driver on the floor.  Okada is bleeding on his back.   Okada gets back in the ring and gets a lariat.  Takagi hits a Superplex.   Takagi with a Sliding Lariat.  Two count.  Takagi hits a vicious chop.   Okada hits a neck breaker.   Takagi is selling pain in his arm.   They go to the floor.   Okada hits a Tombstone on the floor.   

Back in the ring, Okada applies the Money Clip.  Rope break.   Okada hits an elbow from the top rope.   Okada goes for a Rainmaker but misses.  Okada with a dropkick.   Takagi with a Pumping Bomber.   They exchange elbows and strikes.   Takagi hits a headbutt and a kneedrop to the back of the head.  Takagi with a GTR and Made in Japan.   Okada kicks out.  Okada throws a lariat but Takagi absorbs it.  They exchange reversals.  Okada hit the Rainmaker but could not follow up.   Both men are exhausted.

More reversals.  Okada with a Landslide.  Takagi hits Last of the Dragon.  Two count.   They get to their feet and exchange more strikes and reversals.   Okada hits a Pumping Bomber, follows with an Emerald Flosion and finally a Rainmaker.

Okada pins Takagi.

Kazuchika Okada retains the IWGP World Heavyweight Championship.

Okada takes the mic and puts over Takagi.  He says he was happy to fight him in front of a cheering crowd.  

He says he will defend the World Title in San Jose next week.   He offers the challenge to Hiroshi Tanahashi.   Tanahashi accepts the challenge.   Okada says this will be Tanahashi’s last challenge for his Title.  The confetti flies as Okada sends the crowd home happy.
