Tyson Fury is currently eying up a heavyweight boxing match with Ukraine's Oleksandr Usyk, where the winner becomes the world's undisputed champion. However, if, for any reason, that fight does not go ahead as planned this spring, Fury is open to the idea of a title fight in the WWE, possibly at the Clash at the Castle II.
Fury loves entertaining the crowds and fighting; it is what he lives for. The 6ft 9in self-proclaimed Gypsy King has made his WWE debut and is keen on taking on Francis "The Predator" Ngannou of Ultimate Fighting Championship fame. A boxing fight against Ngannou is unlikely to happen in the near future because Ngannou last fought more than 12 months ago and is not part of the exciting card at UFC 284 this weekend.
Fury made his WWE debut in October 2019 at SmackDown. It initially looked like Fury was in attendance as a fan, but he continually stared down Braun Strowman throughout Strowman's bout. Later, Strowman through Dolph Ziggler, one of his opponents, at Fury. After the match finished, Fury leaped over the barricade, but security stopped him from entering the ring. The WWE announced a week later that Fury and Strowman would have a match at WWE Crown Jewel on October 31. Fury knocked out Strowman in their eagerly anticipated match.
At an edition of SmackDown in Manchester, United Kingdom, on November 8, Fury made another appearance. He shook hands with Strowman and hinted they should form a tag team, resulting in the B-Team of Bo Dallas and Curtis Axel challenging them to a battle. Strowman and Fury left the B-Team lying in the ring.
Fury's latest WWE appearance came at the Clash at the Castle in Cardiff, Wales, in September 2022. Fury entered the ring during the main event between Drew McIntyre and Roman Reigns and prevented Austin Theory from interfering with the outcome by knocking him out. He then helped McIntyre to his feet after the Scotsman suffered a defeat; they pair gave a rendition of American Pie, a song Fury first sang in Las Vegas after defeating Tom Schwarz.
Recently, Fury has given plenty of interviews as he attempts to promote his boxing match with Usyk, which is still in the negotiations stage. Speaking to GiveMeSport, Fury indicated that he plans to challenge McIntyre to a WWE World Heavyweight Championship fight should Reigns vacate his title.
"I'm hoping to get back in there soon. They're doing Clash at the Castle 2 soon, I think, so I'm looking at maybe getting back in there. I'm looking at taking that heavyweight title for sure. If Roman Reigns vacates or something, then maybe me and Drew can finally get that battle on."
Although wrestling fans are keen to see the entertaining Fury return to the WWE, doing so is probably third on his to-do list. He wants to box Usyk and become the undisputed heavyweight champion of the world, but taking on former UFC star Ngannou is a close second. Ngannou is an unrestricted free agent after leaving the UFC on January 14, 2023, after he and the UFC could not agree on the terms of a new contract. Fury has made it known he respects Ngannou's punching power but is prepared to fight him to Queensbury rules wearing 4oz gloves.
Speaking in late January, Fury said, "If Usyk doesn't happen like this month coming, then I'm going to say right then let's move on and dor Francis Ngannou. I'm looking to get big Francis in a cage with 4oz gloves on and throw down with him swinging some big bombs. It's risky because Francis, at one point, was considered the biggest puncher in combat sports. With 4oz glove on, all it takes is one punch, and it's all over."
Here's hoping Fury does get a WWE title shot at Clash at the Castle II because WWE needs a true entertainer like the Gypsy King.
