WWE Hall of Famer David Bautista appeared on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon last night.
Fallon welcomed Bautista to the show and said he was happy he was back. He congratulated him on the success of the film Glass Onion and reuniting with Daniel Craig. Bautista said it was like getting to know Craig all over again. Fallon noted they had worked on a James Bond movie together and asked about the story that made the rounds that Bautista broke his leg. Bautista said it wasn't true but that Craig hurt his knee when they were tussling around in a fight scene on a train and needed surgery. He also noted that Craig broke Bautista's nose filming the same sequence. He said it was one of the hardest fight scenes he had ever done. He said his nose was splattered all over the place but said he was a wrestler, so he can do that. When they were filming Glass Onion, Bautista joked him Craig about getting to be on a film where they are beating the hell out of each other.
Fallon brought up Guardians of The Galaxy and confirming this would be the last time he would play Drax. He said he is surprised it's news. He signed for a trilogy and has played Drax seven times. He said it's hard to walk away but it's time and a perfect ending. He said it's similar to how he ended his pro wrestling career. It ended on a "storybook note" and he would never go back and "tarnish it." Drax was the same way. He wouldn't sign up to do Drax again "just to get a paycheck" and won't do it.
Fallon brought up Bautista's WWE career and showed off his latest WWE action figure (which you can get at RingsideCollectibles.com), leading to Fallon asking why it comes with a desk lamp. He said his first action figure had a floor lamp and he could never figure that out. He also seemed mystified by the fact that extra hands were included. He said he never threw lamps and he doesn't think anyone in the history of professional wrestling used a lamp. Fallon said that was his thing now. Bautista admitted he loves interior design.
Fallon brought up his new thrilled Knock At the Cabin, which opens this weekend, directed by M. Night Shyamalan. He heard from his agent that Night wanted to meet with him. He got all excited. They spoke and Bautista "fan boyed" for an hour but no project was ever mentioned. They had two more calls and finally Bautista was asked if he was interested in a role Night might have for him. Bautista read the script late at night and immediately called the next morning to ask who had to kill to get the role. Night said he didn't have to kill anyone, he wants to give him the role because after talking to him Bautista "was this guy."
Fallon asked him if he read the entire script. He said he did because he's heavily involved in the ending, but Fallon "stooged him out" because Bautista is guilty of not reading the ending of scripts for movies he's in if he's not involved, because he wants to be a fan and enjoy the movies he's in. They introduced a clip of the film to close out the segment.
Bautista came off extremely well here.
