BECKY LYNCH ON BEING FIRST WOMAN TO WIN WRESTLEMANIA MAIN EVENT, THE RUMBLE, LYING TO GET INTO PRO WRESTLING SCHOOL & MORE ON THE KELLY CLARKSON SHOW

By Mike Johnson on 2023-01-28 09:30:00

Becky Lynch appeared yesterday on The Kelly Clarkson Show yesterday to promote today's WWE Royal Rumble 2023.

Clarkson noted that Lynch was the first woman to win a Wrestlemania main event.  Becky explained that Wrestlemania was effectively WWE's Superbowl but for 35 years, no women had main evented their Superbowl.  Fans clapped for Lynch.  Lynch said the fans wanted it and being in that spot is the goal of anyone who stepped into the business.  She said that when she signed with WWE, she told a very supportive friend that she wanted to headline Wrestlemania and he told her, "it's nice to have dreams, but be realistic."    it was seen as such a far away goal, it wasn't seen as possible, but "we" and the fans made it possible.

Clarkson asked her about the Royal Rumble.  Lynch explained that this show is the lead up to Wrestlemania and plugged that Mania is in Los Angeles, where the Clarkson Show tapes.  She noted the dates and said that if anyone was free (Clarkson, and previous guests singers Seal and Ava Clark) that they should come.  Clarkson said she would only come if she could bodyslam someone and Lynch reacted, saying they could make up some beef between them.  She explained the Rumble concept with a new competitor entering every 90 seconds and to win, you have to outlast everyone and then you get to point to the Wrestlemania sign.  She said that's the goal and this always been their favorite major show.  She used to stay up to 4 AM in Ireland to watch.

Clarkson asked Becky about lying about her age to get into the wrestling business.  Lynch admitted that was true.  Clarkson said that most women lie to get into clubs and Lynch lied to get into wrestling.  Lynch said she was 15 and was up to "no good" and needed to get on the straight and narrow and thought wrestling would do that.  She found out they were opening a wrestling school about 90 minutes away.  Her brother found out and wanted to go but didn't want to take her because he didn't want to have to be looking out for her.  Her father drove her while her brother took the train and she beat him to the school, telling them she was 17.  She felt if she said 17, they wouldn't ask her for ID and it worked.

Clarkson plugged the Royal Rumble.

It was a short but very good segment as Lynch came off extremely likable and relaxed on the show.
