YOUNG ROCK - 'IT ALL GOES BACK TO CHILDHOOD' RECAP

By Eric Denton on 2023-01-25 19:58:00

Young Rock Season 3 - “It All Goes Back to Childhood”

Prime Minister Honig & Dwayne Johnson hold a press conference to discuss the PM making an unpopular decision on not renaming a mountain what the people want.  The PM gets flustered and Dwayne starts telling a story about his family.

Hawaii 1986

Rocky, Ata & Dewey move into a one room efficiency and Dewey is not real excited. Because of how small the space is Dewey is sent to live with Lia. Despite the wrestling promotion competition the family is still united in making sure Dewey has a normal life. The Rock says it was the perfect combination of lots of attention with no supervision.

Dewey (Adrian Groulx) is at a 7/11 asking the clerk let him smell different deodorant sticks. When she turns around he steals a Snickers and runs off to the gym. This goes on for several months. His parents struggle with their promotion, Lia being concerned about beating them and Dewey stealing candy and lifting weights. We see Dewey has  hit a growth spurt (transition to Bradley Constant).

Ata & Rocky go to High Chief Maivia’s grave and run into Lia & Dewey. Ata talks to the grave stone and Lia interrupts her and they argue about business. Sika sneaks up on them to break the tension. Dewey is concerned the family is broken.

Back at home Rocky gets a letter from Andre The Giant who is in England. He sends Rocky a plane ticket to visit him. Rocky says he can’t go but he’s packing regardless. Ata says go see Andre, she can handle things.

Lia is watching the Roman Brady/John Black saga from Days of Our Lives which she used to watch with Ata. She calls up Lars trying to get him interested in the show. Lars only watches shows about baseball.

Afa calls ATA’s home and he yells profanity about Rocky not staying in Saudi Arabia.

In England on the set of “The Princess Bride” Rob Reiner tries to get a better performance out of Andre. He sees Rocky has showed up and they break for lunch. Andre throws a tantrum because he is tired of the bad food.

In Hawaii Ata confronts Afa… oops it’s Sika and she apologizes she got them confused.

Dewey and his friends want to see “Blue Velvet” and he goes to the ticket booth pretending to be a teacher so he and his friends can get into the Rated R film.

Andre & Rocky share some wine and talk about how much he misses wrestling despite enjoying acting. Andre proposes a toast to two sensitive souls. Rocky gets mad at being called sensitive and he leaves.

Afa & Sika have a talk about the tension between the family. Afa & Sika see a lot of the same issues between Rocky & Afa that Lia & Ata have.

Andre finds Rocky who is trying to leave town. Andre tells Rocky a story about having to deal with his feelings. Rocky tells the story about building a life out of nothing after getting kicked out of his house at 13. Andre says that’s probably upset with Afa because he is protecting his feelings of abandonment.

Dewey and his friends leave the movie theater deeming “Blue Velvet” awesome. After the movie Dewey tries to buy them beer and talks his way into not getting carded. Unfortunately he gets arrested for providing beer to minors. He tells the cop he’s a minor but isn’t believed.

Lia shows up at jail to bail out Dewey. They have a silent dinner together until she blows her top and gets upset at his behavior. She feels she let Peter down. Dewey says he will stop being a problem (The Rock says that isn’t entirely true).

Rocky shows up at Afa’s house to apologize and asks for a favor.

Rocky gets Lia & Ata to the cemetery to talk out their issues. Lia breaks the ice by filling her in on Days of Our Lives and Ata thanks her for doing a good job with Dewey.

We return to Prime Minister Honig who says they live in a democracy and sometimes not everyone will agree. She throws Dwayne under the bus saying he’s only there to make a coffee trade deal and she said no once and she will continue to say no.

“Young Rock” airs Fridays on NBC or On Demand.
