Tommy and JP Grayson, who have been one of the most consistently entertaining tag teams in the Northeast in recent years have been bestowed the Backseat Boyz name and gimmick by Johnny Kashmere and Donnie B, who managed Kashmere and the late Trent Acid during a big part of their run on the independent scene.
The Graysons will be using the team name "The Nü BackSeatz”, debuting at the 3/18 Empire State Wrestling event in Buffalo, NY, followed by Kashmere holding an in-ring torch passing ceremony before The Graysons' tag team debut under that name in the Garden State at the 3/31 Wrestling is Now "Big Fight" event promoted by Joel Maximo on 3/31 in Ridgewood Park, New Jersey (http://BigFightWin.eventbrite.com).
The plan is for a series of vignettes to be released online building to Kashmere then holding an in-ring knighting of the new team that night with Kashmere then stepping into Donnie B's old role as Grayson's manager.
We are told the plan is for the duo not to be a nostalgia type act but to utilize some of the Backseats' signature looks, such as their silver pants and to evolve the original gimmick for today's audiences. The hope of everyone involved is to pay tribute to the late Trent Acid as well as Jay Briscoe, who the Backseats worked with a lot in CZW and beyond. Acid passed away in 2010. Briscoe passed away last week in a car accident.
Kashmere recently returned to pro wrestling as a manager on the Mike "Nova" Bucci retirement show in Toms River, NJ, which was co-promoted by Donnie B. The Graysons, real life brothers, have been competing since 2015, utilizing the team names The Amazing Graysons before shifting to The Nü Graysons. They regularly compete for Northeast Wrestling, Wrestling Open, Beyond Wrestling and many other promotions.
