Former WWE star Zach Gowen and his family were visiting at tonight's Smackdown taping. Gowen last wrestled for WWE back in 2004. He still competes independently and works as a motivational speaker.
Liv Morgan defeated Xia Li in a dark match prior to the live Smackdown broadcast.
Kevin Owens and The Viking Raiders, all of whom worked with Jay Briscoe in Ring of Honor, paid tribute to him tonight on Smackdown:

The VIP commemorative chairs that fans get to take home debuted a new design tonight.
Although this did not have any effect on WWE's setup for tonight's taping, there was a gas leak yesterday at Little Ceasars Arena in Detroit that led to the venue being evacuated and the fire department being called.
