Wrestling Open Week 54 (S2E2)
1/12/22 Worcester, MA
Yes yes, I am way late on this. <nervous smile> After last week’s absolutely insane iron man match, Wrestling Open has a week to exhale…or maybe not? The new Wrestling Open championship was announced! We have a huge main event between Ichiban and Ray “I will pass out booing you someday, sir” Jaz as well as a rare Thursday night appearance by Anthony Greene to defend his Skywalker title before he takes off for a run in NOAH! Rich Palladino is your announcer. Paul Crockett & Denver Colorado are on the commentary mics. Let’s goooo!
Match 1: TJ Crawford vs Fancy Ryan Clancy
The crowd is chanting for TJ and it’s clear he doesn’t know how to handle this. Clancy is used to the love of Worcester and comes right in at TJC. Clancy’s extremely good wrestling fundamentals are carrying the early moments. Fancy monkey flip to an arm bar. TJ catches Clancy on the ropes and flattens him with a hangman’s elbow drop. Crawford attacking the mid section hard. Reverse olympic slam out of the corner. Clancy fighting out of the waist lock and throwing hands. Hard knees to the gut! Facebuster for two! TJ blocks the side Russian and rams Clancy to the buckles…abdominal stretch…Clancy reverses to the side Russian and hits it! Another solid performance from TJC…but another L. Clancy offers a handshake, TJ doesn’t want it. Clancy says TJ keeps losing because of his attitude. He demands TJ come back and show him the respect he’s earned. Crawford angsts over it…and shakes Clancy’s hand! Maybe his fortunes will change now?
Winner: Fancy Ryan Clancy

Match 2: Anastasia Morningstar (w/ Brother Greatness) vs Clara Carreras
Brother Greatness is very tired of Worcester’s penchant for chanting about Satan. It’s bible time. He admits his demoness has brought prominence to the Church of Greatness and it’s time for La Sinner to come down and find out why. I wonder if she will fare better against Anastasia this time. Clara throwing leg kicks, avoiding the swing facebuster….Anastasia caught her and plants her with a backbreaker. Hard chops to Clara. Dragged out for a one foot pin…not quite. Side slam for two. Jumping splash for two. Clara won’t die. She blasts a cannonball to the back! Out at one…high crossbody. Caught. Swinging facebuster and that’s that.
Winner: Anastasia Morningstar

Rich Palladino brings out Alec Price, hot on the heels of his 6-5 iron man victory over Channing Thomas last week. Even Rich is calling him our Ace. How’s Price feeling? He gives Channing respect for going 60 minutes. Price is the northeast beast though. He’s beat up and tired but he’s the best. He’s still got that month he wasn’t allowed to wrestle in Worcester on his mind but it was everyone here that brought him back. Hit the music and the Stetson Ranch is here. Oh boyyyyyyyyy… why is Stetson out here with his little ranch hands, BRG & Danny Miles? Stetson says last week was one of the greatest matches we’ve ever had…he congratulates him. But that’s why he’s here…he wants to recruit Price to the ranch. Oh lawd no. Price appreciates the respect Stetson showed…but he wants to know if Stetson ever hears himself talk? Price wouldn’t join Stetson for any amount of money. This deal? Straight GAHHHHHHBIDGE.
Stetson doesn’t look happy…but nor does he look surprised. Oh it’s tag match time?
Match 3: Stetson Ranch (Steven Stetson & Danny Miles w/ BRG) vs The Batiri (Obaryion & Kodama)
The Ranch boys are screaming “For the Ranch” and the crowd thinks the “for” should be a different F-word. Stetson’s enforcer trying to overpower Kodama early but the tag veteran is able to get out of danger and the Batiri going for some tag tandem. Stetson spreads the rope and Obaryion is sent to the floor. The ranch takes over, Stetson with the big slams. Saddle seated senton. Obaryion with the backcracker reversal. Tag to Kodama! The ranch getting tossed around. Miles cannonballed into Stetson! Alabama slam to a knee! Stetson wipes out Kodama with the northern lariat. Obaryion booted in the head and Mikes hits a fireman’s carry worlds strongest slam for the win!
Winner: Stetson Ranch

Match 4: Aaron Rourke vs Curt Robinson
With a ring name like the “CEO of the MAT”, you’d think Curt Robinson is a huge heel but Nono, he’s pretty delightful. Rourke takes offense to the crowd chanting for Robinson and just starts wailing on him. Robinson with a few arm drags and a jumping European uppercut that takes Rourke out of the air. Robinson caught and spun into a hot shot. Big boot and Rourke is in firm control now. Kick to the back of the head. Flip seated senton off the top! Kick out! Cradle toss but Robinson catches him, belly to bell suplex! Shotgun to the corner! Half and half suplex! Robinson with the electric chair and bridge but Rourke kicks out! Rourke rolls through another suplex attempt and spikes Robinson with a stiff ddt for the win! But Rourke isn’t done. He needs the mic. He says this is another example of his amazingness. He has a message for Bryce Donovan. He knows Bryce is still recovering and Rourke is here waiting for him to come back to be embarrassed again.
Winner: Aaron Rourke

Match 5: Even Stevens (Steve Somerset & Steve Azure w/ Brother Greatness) vs Mutually Assured Destruction (Rip Byson & Perry Von Vicious)
It’s Rip’s 15-year anniversary in wrestling! The crowd is very much behind MAD. Somerset pumps himself up to stand with Byson….Rip cuts him down fast with a chop. He slams Perry into Somerset. Early kick out. Azure gets the tag but he can’t slam Perry. Somerset bounces off Perry’s chest. Brother Greatness is trying to counsel his altar boys. It takes two Stevens to put the big man down long enough that Byson has to make the save. Azure trying to ride the human monster truck’s back but he gets slammed. Tag to Rip! Somerset getting rolled over. Huge powerslam for two. Azure gets into the mix and Rip hits a double fallaway slam. Somerset eats a double chokeslam and that’s all for these vesticles. Huge win for MAD!
Winners: Mutually Assured Destruction

Match 6: Big Bacon Brad Hollister vs Gabriel Skye
This is gonna be a hot contest. Gabe right into Bacon’s face but Hollister double legs him at the bell. Ram into the buckles, big German, he’s going for the jackhammer already?!? Skye hits an iconoclasym! Dropkick! Head scissor and spinning heel kick for two! Brad picks up Skye and dumps him in a pile onto the floor. Skye trying to get back into it but he blasts a back elbow and senton for two. Brad is extremely intense on his post-steel cage warefare return to Worcester. Hollister with a gator roll. Headbutt! Skye with a kickoff and dropkick! Running knee! Northern lights! Sliding clothesline for two! Hollister tries to get the feet up but Skye catches them and blasts a KO with the knee. Brad kicks out but he’s hurting. Gabe tries a head scissor but Brad hits a spinning powerbomb! Bacon dropping bombs. He’s furious. Skye knees out of the jackhammer…falcon arrow! Kickout! Gabe to the top! Bacon flies in and slaps him down! Gabe Skye staggered on the apron and Bacon hits a deadlift jackhammer for the win! Bacon needs the mic and demands the ref get Skye out of HIS ring. Brad says he’s awoken now. Body, mind and heart. He knows that no one can touch him. Past present or future. Bacon says he’s going to fix the soft future of the Wrestling Open locker room. Big words from Big Bacon, who is clearly hurting.
Winner: Brad Hollister

Match 7: Anthony Greene(c) vs BRG (for the Skywalker Championship)
This is a hell of step up in competition for the Victorious one. The Skywalker title is a truly independent championship, with no home championship, and it definitely belongs on the Alternative’s waist. BRG is already annoyed at the crowd. Greene hits a superkick and So Much Prettier right away. BRG kicks out?!? Greene trying for a piledriver but BRG out and tweaks AG’s neck on the rope. Huge spear!!! Greene kicks out! BRG throwing chops! greene catches him with a headlock slam! Siiiiiick spot. BRG fired up, huge lariat, kick out! Greene and BRG fighting over a suplex….AG settles for a spinning neckbreaker. BRG sent to the buckles and eating chops, he wants nonnnnne of this work. AG to the top…ropewalk crossbody! BRG is out! Facebuster slam! BRG kicks out again! BRG fights off another so much prettier and rolls to the floor. He needs a moment. Danny Miles tries to get into the mix but AG has a dive ready for this. BRG with a superkick! Diamond dust! He goes for an Unprettier…AG with the reversal, SO MUCH PRETTIER! This was a lot of fun!
Winner: Anthony Greene
Rich Palladino has another guest for an interview. It’s Sidney Bakabella! I guess Channing Thomas can’t speak for himself. The crowd is booing Sidney to death. Oh, he needed to say Channing’s name to bring the World clASS out here. Channing definitely looks less confident than normal. Bakabella keeps the mic and we have a throwback World Class segment. Defeat is never taken lightly, says Bakabella. Thomas hangs his head as Bakabella offers some excuses for last week’s loss, mostly blaming Rich Palladino for shoddy timekeeping. But yes he lost, against the best wrestler in the northeast, in a sixty minute match and a year ago, no one knew who he was. Bakabella says Channing should show the people why he is the main event. Apparently, this is our main event? Well, Sidney says it is. Bakabella is gassing him up as Love Doug comes out here. Channing is NOT THRILLED. Doug is here to console Channing about the subject he knows a lot about: HEARTBREAK. Bakabella calls him an idiot. Doug says they need a hug. Bakabella says he can go to hell.

Main Event: Ichiban vs Ray Jaz
An encounter over the debut of the Wrestling Open championship led to our main event tonight. It’s not FOR the belt but it will definitely have some implications towards crowning the first champ. Will Ichiban put the first loss in Jaz’s singles record? Ah, this is the ONE THING I hate about watching Open on IWTV. They make it so I have to hear Ray Jaz’s stupid tip of the day. I prefer the live experience of booing so loud that no one can hear a word of it. The crowd is very much here for Ichiban. Commentary points out that Ichiban has had more main events than Jaz, but he’s also had losses. Jaz is confident at the bell and stalks Ichiban around the ring. He lets Ichiban have his arm? Ichiban takes it and Jaz hits a fireman’s carry takeover. Ichiban seems flustered. He picks a leg but Jaz hits another takeover. Ichiban gets a headlock…Jaz tries to slam out but Ichiban is tenacious and gets a headlock takeover. Jaz cant escape! Ichiban with the flip away from the slam out…and he punks out Jaz into the ropes. Ray is eating a bunch of arm drags and dropkicks. Ichiban is feeling it! Ichiban to the top, Jaz hits the rope and Ichiban gets crotched. Toss from the top, Jaz is starting the work over, letting Ichiban know that HE is number one here. Good amateur waistlock slams. Ichiban with a victory roll? Jaz sends him flying with a German! Out to the floor but Ichiban makes the count back in. Ichiban with a small package! Kick out. Jaz is stunned! Ichiban slingshots but Jaz takes him out of the air with another wrestling slam. Enziguri from Ichiban…Ray with a gutwrench suplex into the buckles. Ichiban looking dead as Ray Jaz starts pummeling the side of his head. Ichiban throwing hands! Jaz tosses him out but Ichiban skins the cat. Jaz eating a ton of offense. Spinning neckbreaker! Kip up! Handspring back elbow! Ichiban hits one punch ten times! Jaz pushes him off, Ichiban comes running back it but Jaz hits the cradle powerbomb! The ref counts three but Ichiban’s foot is on the rope clearly and Jaz pulls the foot off before he gets up. The ref didn’t see it, it’s didn’t happen. Ray F***ING Jaz wins againnnnnn.
Winner: Ray Jaz
Solidly fun episode of Open this week. Everyone put on a show but we really needed this type of cool down and reset episode after the last two weeks of pure madness. Where does World Class go from here? Brad Hollister is back on the hunt. Do we get to cheer TJ Crawford now? Unfortunately I wasn’t in the building for this one (hence why it’s so late) but I will say I got to tune in live from a NYC bar to catch the last 5-6 minutes of the main event. Just long enough to watch Ray Jaz steal another win, and for me to stand up in a crowded New York bar and start flipping off my phone. I love Wrestling Open. I’m back this week. Every. Thursday. Forever. (Unless I get stuck on a work trip again….). Until then!
