As you might imagine, it was a rough day for a lot of the talents and staff working the AEW taping last night as to a person, everyone loved Jay Briscoe and many of them had relationships with Jay and the Briscoe family dating back to the early 2000s. Everyone here at PWInsider.com sends our best to everyone who loved Jay.
NBC Philadelphia had a story on Jay's passing and even went to the family farm to interview his mother at this link. We continue to hope for the best for Jay's daughters and the entire Briscoe family.
We've had a lot of readers ask why more wasn't done on last night's AEW broadcast to commemorate Briscoe. As Dave Scherer and I noted on yesterday's We Don't Need No Stinkin' Name Show, the promotion was going to do as much as they would be allowed by their broadcast partner as there had been past resistance to having the Briscoes on AEW programming in the past. The only time the Briscoes were ever shown on AEW programming in the past were short clips of FTR on offense from an ROH PPV. I can pretty much promise everyone with my hand on a Bible that it wouldn't have been an AEW call to just do a graphic, given how many people there loved Briscoe. I truly believe that if they could have, AEW would have been a lot more on the live show if possible. Tony Khan told the live crowd in Fresno last night that the Celebration of Life for Jay would just be the first show celebrating Briscoe, so ROH has something else in mind for the future.
As noted yesterday, AEW rushed to bring Ian Riccaboni and Caprice Coleman to last night's Dynamite taping so they could be on the call for the Jay Briscoe Celebration of Life broadcast that will be released on WatchROH.com and YouTube. The promotion sought to bring others to the taping but due to the fact they were in Fresno, CA, it was logistically impossible to get some others across the country in time to actually work the taping. Ring announcer Bobby Cruise was among those that the promotion attempted to bring in.
The AEW Celebration of Life broadcast will feature the following:
*ROH Champion Claudio Castagnoli vs. Christopher Daniels.
*ROH Pure Wrestling Champion Wheeler Yuta vs. Hagane Shinno
*ROH Women's Champion Athena vs. Madison Rayne.
*Eddie Kingston vs. QT Marshall.
*Marina Shafir vs. Mighty Myra.
*Juice Robinson vs. Brandon Cutler.
*Yuka Sakazaki vs. Sandra Moon.
We are told the broadcast will also feature what was described as an "absolutely incredible" speech from Adam Cole about his friendship with Briscoe.
