MORE TRIBUTES TO JAY BRISCOE, HIS ROLE IN THE LOCAL DELAWARE COMMUNITY, ROH, AEW AND MORE

By Mike Johnson on 2023-01-18 17:49:00

For those who have asked about the following related to Jay Briscoe:

*We are told Tony Khan and Ring of Honor will be doing "everything in their power" to assist the Briscoe family going forward in the days ahead, just as they did with Brodie Lee's family after his passing.

*There will be some sort of acknowledgement of Briscoe's passing on AEW Dynamite tonight.

*We have no updates on Briscoe's daughters and we will not be pursuing any news about their health.  If the family wishes to make those updates public, that is one thing, but I will not be chasing news about the health of two children who are going through an unthinkable loss and trauma.  We do ask that everyone keep the entire family in their thoughts.

*There is, as of now, no official GoFundMe or anything of that nature.  If there is one, we will confirm via the family and report.

Ian Riccaboni was brought to tonight's Dynamite taping to be part of the promotion's plans tonight.  There were others the promotion sought to get to the taping but due to the last minute nature and tonight's event being in Fresno, it just wasn't logistically possible.

To a person, everyone in and around ROH past and present are heartbroken and I was told Briscoe's passing was a big topic of conversation today within Sinclair Broadcast Group among those who worked on ROH when SBG owned that promotion.  There were a lot of people, as you can imagine, very upset.

I wrote last night about the importance of family in Jay Briscoe's life.  Delaware Online featured a piece on Briscoe's passing, noting much he was involved with the local community at his daughter's school.  Briscoe was driving his daughters to a school function when the car accident took place.  “He was heavily involved,” Kevin Walmsley, the Laurel High athletic director, stated. “He was at school almost every day . . . It’s a huge tragedy for the community.”  It was noted Briscoe was an assistant coach on his son's Laurel Middle School football team also coached youth basketball in the town.  As I noted yesterday, family was EVERYTHING to Briscoe.

In the article, it was noted that Jana Pugh, Jay's mother is a member of the Laurel School District board of education.  I believe Jay's wife also work for the School system, one of the reasons Laurel closed their schools today in the wake of Briscoe's passing.

Vik Dalishus of the NOW, who wrestled The Briscoes in the NWA, spoke about Jay's passing in the article as well, commenting, "Those guys, Mark and Jay, have a reputation in professional wrestling as being the absolute standard.  It was a huge opportunity for us meeting them and realizing their professionalism and willingness to make us look like equals and challenge us to come up with the best professional wrestling match that we could come up with. It was really cool.”

Former ROH owner Cary Silkin was on Busted Open Radio on SiriusXM talking about Briscoe and it was a really good, although obviously sad, discussion.
