DAX HARDWOOD COMMENTS ON HIS RELATIONSHIP WITH CM PUNK, HOW IT WAS THE OPPOSITE OF WHAT DAX EXPECTED

By Matthew Bergren on 2022-12-29 22:00:00

On the first edition of FTR with Dax Harwood, he discussed his thoughts on CM Punk coming to AEW before getting to officially meet him:

“Yeah at first man, I was uh, I don’t know if, I was a huge fan of him coming into our company because I knew he’d bring more eyeballs to our company. I knew he’d put a different kind of perspective on AEW. So, I was very excited about that. But the things that I heard, I was not very excited about that because I’m not a person to back down from anybody, it doesn’t matter who it is, you know. I don’t back down and so, uh whenever me and Cash, whenever the first day we were going to be a, be in the backstage with him, be backstage with him, I told Cash, I said ‘If this motherfucker says something to me about the way I’m dressed’, because I was expecting him to say, ‘oh you have to abide by a dress code’. You know, ‘if he says something about the way I’m dressed, we’re gonna have a problem. And I went into the building thinking that, so I already had this preconceived notion of what was gonna happen and how I was going to perceive him and it was the complete total opposite man."

“We had a match with Proud and Powerful, Santana and Ortiz and he loved the match, and he told me he’d been waiting to see us work live, because he had seen us, you know, before and uh, you know we just started talking about that. And obviously the love of Bret Hart came into play and umm we’re both enamored with him. We both think he’s the greatest. And you know, whenever he was, he knew coming in that he was eventually going to work with Max in an angle. And so he called all the guys in the Pinnacle into his locker room. And again, I said this before, his locker room door, always open. You could walk in and walk out without knocking and say hello, you know, he was incredible at that. But he brought us into his locker room and he sat everyone down and he said, ‘we’re all going to be working together soon and I can’t wait to work with you guys. I’m a fan of every single one of you and I hope we can make a ton of money together and I hope we can make a ton of money for this company’. And he said, ‘Just to show my appreciation, I have these for you’. And he knew that most of us were coffee connoisseurs, or we’d loved coffee, and he had these gift cards for Starbucks with like $500 dollars on each gift card and he gave it myself, Cash, Shawn, Wardlow, and Max. And he said, ‘I know this isn’t much but this to show my appreciation for you guys allowing me to work with you’. And that’s kinda how things started rolling then."
