NXT taped two episodes of television on Wednesday for the episodes airing on December 20th and December 27th. They also taped two matches for Level Up.
Level Up
Match 1: Thea Hail (with Andre Chase and Duke Hudson) defeated Amari Miller
NXT December 20, 2022
Match 1: Carmelo Hayes (with Trick Williams) defeated Axiom. This match had the crowd very fired up in its last few minutes. Axiom looked to get the pin until Trick Williams caused a distraction. This gave Carmelo enough time to hit a pair of moves on Axiom for the win.
After the match, Axiom dove onto Trick Williams on the floor and had a stare down with Carmelo.
They showed an interview with Grayson Waller and McKenzie Mitchell. Grayson wanted to do what Roxanne did last week and have his title match tonight. McKenzie claims that Bron is supposedly in North Carolina doing a media tour for Vengeance Day. Grayson says he still plans to be out in the ring to call him out.
They showed Tony D’Angelo and Stacks Lorenzo backstage discussing Tony getting his North American title match against Wes Lee next week. Tony asks Stacks to go and speak with Dijak to make sure he doesn’t get involved. Grayson came up and interacted with Tony after Stacks had left.
Match 2: Zoey Stark defeated Nikkita Lyons with a roll up while grabbing the ropes.
They showed an interview with Cora Jade and McKenzie Mitchell where McKenzie asks Cora her thoughts on Roxanne winning the NXT Women’s Championship. Wendy Choo interrupts and brawls with Cora.
Match 3: Katana Chance and Kayden Carter defeated Ivy Nile and Tatum Paxley and Gigi Dolin and Jacy Jayne to retain the NXT Women’s Tag Team Championship. The match was very action packed in the latter half especially. Ivy got Kayden locked in the Dragon Sleeper but Kayden flipped backwards out of it (the Austin-Bret spot minus using the turnbuckle) managing to cover Ivy for the win. There were no notable crowd chants or references to Mandy Rose during this match.
Apollo Crews came to the ring for an interview but was interrupted by Carmelo Hayes. The two exchanged words in the ring before ending in a stare down.
Alba Fyre was seen walking backstage. Isla Dawn caught her by surprise and blew some kind of red dust in Alba’s face.
Match 4: Elektra Lopez defeated Indi Hartwell.
There was an interview with Wes Lee and McKenzie Mitchell backstage discussing his upcoming title defense against Tony D’Angelo.
Stacks Lorenzo is shown backstage outside Dijak’s locker prepping being able to speak to him.
Alba Fyre was being attended to by a doctor in the back who clears her to wrestle her match later. Grayson Waller at one point interrupted the segment.
Sol Ruca versus Alba Fyre never began as Isla Dawn came out from under the ring and laid out Alba Fyre. Isla smashed Alba’s hand in the ring steps with Alba’s bat. Isla ended up leaving with Alba’s bat.
Match 5: Xavier Woods and Kofi Kingston retained the NXT Tag Team Championship over Josh Briggs and Brooks Jensen (with Fallon Henley). Action packed match that went about 12 minutes with some big moments including Josh Briggs hitting a top rope moonsault for a near fall. Xavier got the win with an elbow drop from the ropes on Briggs. The crowd gave a loud “that was awesome” chant as all four shook hands and posed afterwards. Kiana James and her assistant were sitting in the audience watching the match from the front row.
Grayson Waller came to the ring (with a new Titantron for his entrance) calling out Bron Breakker. Bron was seen pulling up to the building and headed straight for the ring. He laid out Grayson with a spear but seemed knocked out. Grayson stood up and revealed that he was wearing a metal plate and vest underneath his coat that Bron hit when he speared him like Goldberg and Bret Hart years ago.
[There wasn’t any noticed explanation for Bron being able to make it to the building despite being on the alleged media tour that will likely be clarified when the episode airs.]
Level Up
Match 1: Oro Mensah defeated Javier Bernal
NXT December 27, 2022
Match 1: Julius Creed (with Brutus Creed) defeated JD McDonagh after Julius’s cartwheeling takedown and sliding lariat combination.
After the match, Indus Sher came to the ring. Seeing that the Creeds appear to be physically ready, they challenged the Creeds to their previously delayed match from Deadline for New Year’s Evil.
Match 2: Wendy Choo defeated Cora Jade with her top rope splash where she faces away from the ring.
Match 3: Scrypts defeated Ikemen Jiro via his top rope “Molly Go Round.” Scrypts came out wearing Jiro’s jacket who came to the ring wearing long pants in the style of his jacket that he wore on the December 13th episode.
Match 4: Lyra Valkyria defeated Lash Legend
Match 5: The Schism (Joe Gacy, Rip Fowler, and Jagger Reid [with Ava Raine]) defeated Odyssey Jones, Edris Enofe, and Malik Blade. Another pretty action packed match. At one point, Schism isolated Odyssey Jones to the floor and all three took turns doing repeated middle rope dives in an attempt to knock Odyssey Jones off of his feet. They also executed a double doomsday device with Jagger hitting the clotheslines on both Edris and Malik. Schism hit a succession of moves on Enofe for the win.
Match 6: Fallon Henley (with Josh Briggs and Brooks Jensen) defeated Kiana James in a Battle for the Bar (the match was contested under regular singles match rules.)
After the match, all three took some time talking with each other while Kiana looked on from the floor. The audience could not hear what they were saying at the time.
Drew Gulak came to the ring with Hank Walker for the Drew Gulak Invitational, as well as some other wrestlers (Tavion Heights, Myles Borne, and another wrestler I did not recognize.) Drew took turns with all three discussing their backgrounds on the mic before doing sprawls in the ring. When it came time for Drew and Hank, Charlie Dempsey interrupted and came to the ring. This resulted in a match being set up between Charlie Dempsey and Hank Walker for the January 3rd NXT show.
Match 7: Wes Lee retained the North American Championship over Tony D’Angelo (with Channing “Stacks” Lorenzo). Toward the end, Dijak came to the ring and put Stacks in a chokehold before taking him to the back. Wes picked up the win after hitting Tony with his backflipping Pele Kick.
When the show was concluded, Wes took a microphone and discussed how he couldn’t think of a better way to close out 2022. He speaks highly of the new and current champions in Bron, Roxanne, The New Day, and Katana and Kayden. He wishes the fans a Merry Christmas/Happy New Year and closes out the taping with a “We are NXT!”
The next live show at the Performance Center will be January 3, 2023 with New Year’s Evil taking place there the following week.
