WHAT SHOULD HAPPEN TONIGHT: THE NXT DEADLINE TIP SHEET

By Dave Scherer, Mike Johnson & Richard Trionfo on 2022-12-09 18:52:00

Saturday night, WWE NXT presents Deadline from Orlando, Florida.  Here is our take on what will happen on the show.

Iron Survival Challenge Match: Indi Hartwell vs. Zoey Stark vs. Cora Jade vs. Roxanne Perez vs. Kiana James.

Dave: Of this group, Stark seems like the pick to me.  It will be interesting to see how this concept plays out.

Mike: To me, the frontrunners has to be Roxanne Perez, followed by Zoey Stark and then Indy Hartwell.  This will be a big test for Jade and James if they are asked to go long.

Richard:  It's beginning to feel a lot like 2000s TNA.  They have decided to incorporate the King of The Mountain Match with an Iron Man/Iron Woman Match, and a Rumble Style Gauntlet.  The person who enters last has the biggest disadvantage because they only have ten minutes to get as many pinfalls as the two people who had fifteen extra minutes, but they have four people to try to get those falls on.  I am going to combine my thoughts on the match in general so it won't be repeated in the men's match.  I would love to see one match end with no falls to see how they handle it, or have the only fall take place in the last ten seconds of the match, or have it so someone is about to tie the match at the end but fall short.  Of the participants in this match, the only ones who I see as a viable challenger for Mandy Rose are Zoey Stark and Roxanne Perez.  Indi Hartwell has been so up and down and her recent performances have not set the world on fire.  KIana James is too inexperienced at this point and I would rather see her 'business' keep trying to buy other people's enterprises.  Cora Jade is missing something that I think justifies another title match.  If Roxanne does not win, will that affect her perception by the fans that she cannot win the big one or is she able to get past this for the 'big one' against Mandy to win the title?  I liked Zoey's promo on Tuesday and I think she has the short term momentum to lead her into a match against Mandy.  I don't think she will beat Mandy whenever they have their title match.   With there being a PPVish event in Charlotte in February, could they bring in a 'big name' to dethrone Mandy?

Iron Survival Challenge Match: Grayson Waller vs. Carmelo Hayes vs. Joe Gacy vs. JD McDonagh vs. Axiom.

Dave:  Rich did this Tip Sheet first and I will agree.  Hayes is special and it's time for him to get his shot.

Mike: Unless they are going to do a story where Axiom mathematically figures out how to win this match and beat everyone, Carmelo Hayes is the obvious favorite here.  I'd say Gacy is the dark horse give they are obviously building up The Schism.

Richard:  I think there is only one person who should win this and that is Carmelo Hayes.  He has won the North American title many times and it would be fitting to have him challenge Bron for the biggest title on the brand.  That match could catapult one or both to the main roster.  JD has been rehabilitated a lot in the last few weeks, but I think too much damage was done to his character when he returned to the US.  Waller has the charisma and is decent in the ring but I don't know if he is a future champion.  Axiom is a great talent but I don't see him as the NXT Champion, maybe North American champ.  Gacy's gimmick is very divisive and I think his character has dipped significantly from his earliest promos.  I can see Schism do something I described in the women's match where they get someone trying to win or tie the match getting that person disqualified to save whoever has the lead.

NXT Men's Champion Bron Breakker vs. Apollo Crews.

Dave: I love that Crews is down doing good work in NXT but there is no world where he should beat Bron.

Mike: Zero reason for Bron to lose here.

Richard:  Now that their homages to the movies Looper and Gone Fishing are done, it is time for these two men to show what they can do in the ring.  Crews stated that his goal upon returning to NXT was to win the title, but I don't think it happens.  There is more to do with Breakker on top.  Crews will come close but Breakker will be the one to face the Iron Survivor.

NXT Men's Tag Team Champions Pretty Deadly vs. New Day.

Dave: Pretty Deadly are sooooo good.  A win over New Day would mean a lot for them.

Mike: The best thing that could happen to Pretty Deadly is for them to get the win.   The only way I'd argue otherwise is if New Day was to win and Pretty Deadly chased them back to the main roster to get exposure and a win back.

Richard:  With the announcement of a show in a major arena in February, I wonder if this is a way to get a 'big name' to help draw a larger crowd.  If that is the case, it will be done at the expense of the best tag team on the brand.  With the Creeds unavailable and with other teams that could challenge Pretty Deadly booked horribly, the main roster looks like the option for Saturday's opponents.  This should be a good match and I think we will get new champions.

Alba Fyre vs. Isla Dawn.

Dave: Dawn has a spooky gimmick.  Fyre kicks major ass.  She should go over.

Mike: I've never seen much in Dawn.  Alba should be in a much more prominent position.  She should go over.

Richard:  I wish Alba was in the Iron Survival Match, but at least she is on the pay per view level event.   Alba needs to win this match.  Will she get a chance at the NXT Women's Title or is this the first step to send her to Raw or Smackdown?  Based on Isla's mistings, I hope the referee will have glasses or some other form of protective eyewear to thwart any problems.
