It is Wednesday and it’s time for Dynamite, and we are in Cedar Park Texas at the H-E-B Center, with a commentary team of Excalibur, Taz, and Tony Schiavone.
The Dynamite Diamond Battle Royal
This isn’t for the Dynamite Diamond, but for a chance to face MJF for the Dynamite Diamond, which is a bit odd. We only get Jungle Boy, Dustin Rhodes and Ricky Starks. They also didn’t have any “surprise” entrants in the battle royal, which is a good thing. Crowd is rocking for Ricky Starks.
They highlight the feud between Kip Sabian and Orange Cassidy, which is what battle royals should do. Dalton Castle repeats the bit he did last time by having The Boys catch him when he goes out fo the ring and take him to the other side dfo the ring. When Jungle Boy is eliminated, he gets slammed into the ring aDean is out next since Matt didn’t help with the elimination, pron by Morrisey.
Page starts to order Matt Hardy around as The Firm owns his contract. The last four are Shawn Dean, Matt Hardy, Ethan Page and Ricky Starks. After Dean is eliminated, Page and Hardy have words until Starks is up and they team up to beat him down. Spears tosses Matt Hardy, and Starks tosses Page
Winner: Ricky Srarks
MJF’s music hits immediately. MJF then says that Bryan Danielson didn’t show tonight because he is scared of him. MJF says he will be the 4 time Dynamite Diamond Ring champion next week. MJF then turns his attention to Ricky Starks and runs him down, and even uses one of the Rock’s catch phrases because he’s a Dollar Store Dwayne. He keeps running down Starks.
Starks grabs a mic, bumping into MJF on purpose, called MJF Maxi Pad and calls him a 5th rate Roddy Piper as the crowd loves the new name for MJF. Starks cuts a solid promo, first mocking MJF and then putting himself over, and the crowd eats it up. Lots of fire in his promo and it’s something we haven’t seen from him in months.
MJF responds with a low blow.
Starks responds with a spear.
I am frankly amazed at the response Ricky Starks is getting, even if this is his adopted home town, because he’s been books so poorly the last few months. Nice to see the crowd jump on the bandwagon.
We then get a promo from Darby Allin about getting his TNT Title back from Samoa Joe. Joe says that he is a trial that he cannot endure.
Jon Moxley is in the back and states he’s happy that Page started fighting because this is All Elite WRESTLING and there needs to be more fighting and less talking.
Samoa Joe (TNT Champion) vs Darby Allin
Joe is easily twice as big as Darby. Joe uses his Walk Away spot early on as Darby tries to attack with speed. This match has quickly become Darby being beaten to a pulp. When we come back from break, the beatdown is still going on. Darby does a bit where he is rammed into the ringpost and barely gets into the ring, and he looks nearly beaten to death. After this, he has a big comeback completed with Coffin Drop onto Joe on the floor.
After another flurry, Darby gets a pair of near falls. They fight on the top and Darby Coffin Drops into a choke on the mat by Joe and eventually he passes out and the ref calls it.
Winner and still TNT Champion: Samoa Joe
Crowd is chanting for Joe as Joe waits for Darby to get up. Darby then calls for more from Joe, and Joe pops him with a head butt. Joe then grabs Darby’s skateboard, flips it on its back and hits a muscle buster into the upturned wheels. Joe slaps on the sleeper and Wardlow comes to the ring to drive Joe off.
In the back, Kip Sabian and Orange Cassidy is there. He tells Kip he’s got the title match, and Kip says he’s injured. He then tells Kip to find someone to face him on Rampage Friday.
Jericho cuts a taped promo about his match with Claudio Castagoli at Ring of Honor Final Battle.
Claudio Castagnoli and Wheeler Yuta vs Daniel Garcia and Jake Hager
Hager tosses the purple bucket hat to Claudio, who acts as if he will put it on and instead kicks it into the crowd as if it were a beach ball. Then we get the serious part of the match as Yuta and Garcia fight. They tag out, Claudio and Hager have a serious series of moves as well, so I guess Jake’s goofiness will only be from time to time.
They keep it to those pairings as tags come faster. I will admit that seeing Yuta and Garcia go out at in the pure rules match is something I am looking forward to. The crowd is rocking tonight, a lot louder and more active than the crowds have been the last few weeks and ti shows. Make the show seem more exciting.
When we get back from the picture in picture, Claudio gets to beat the purple hat out of Hager to let us know he has a chance against Jericho Saturday. Hager puts Claudio into an ankle lock and Garcia puts Yuta in a Dragon Tamper, but Claudio is able to run Hager into Garcia and then hits the uppercut for the pin and the win.
Winners: Claudio Castagnoli and Wheeler Yuta
We get an interview with Tony Schiavone and Willaim Regal where Regal says we will only see this if something happens to him. Regal says he gave MJF what he wants and now everyone in the company will be chasing him. Regal says that the Blackpool Combat Club doesn’t need him any more, and he needs to show them why they don’t need him any more and they need to take over training Wheeler Yuta. He says that he needed to teach them to keep eyes in the back of your head.
With the situation of Regal leaving, it’s a good way to keep the BCC around.
Mox says that they live and breathe for Professional Wrestling, and at Ring of Honor Final Battle, the war with the Jericho Appreciation Society is over and on Rampage, he challenges anyone to meet him in the ring.
We then get a video from the House of Black. They say AEW is sick and dying and it’s time for them to put down this corruption. NIce chilling promo.
Tony has a sit down interview with Jamie Hayter. Let’s hope it’s better than Saraya’s snoozefest last week. nTony asks her about the women’s division. She says that everyone is trying to grinding their way for a chance at the title and says she will give one of the omen on the Rampage match a shot at the title.
Jade Cargill, Red Velvet, and Leila Grey vs Skye Blue, Madison Rayne and Kiera Hogan
Red Velvet and Skye Blue trade holds to start off the match and have some good moves. The story of the match is that Jade Cargioll is just directing her team and won’t get involved. The crowd has quieted down as this match goes on, which is a shame since the work has been good, there's just no heat in this match. No one cares about Keira Hogan’s firing.
I get that we need a bit of a breather before the main event, but this feels like a Dark Match. By no fault of the people in the ring. The match is also too long for a group of 6, where only one or two are considered Big Stars.
We do get some Jade and Kiera Hogan action, but Jade gets her big power spots. Jade ends the match with a Jaded on Madison for the pin and the win.
Winners: Jade Cargill, Red Velvet, and Leila Grey
The end of a feud that got no buildup.
Tony is with Saraya, and Britt Baker shows immediately and gives her tickets for AEW at the Kia Center. Saraya says she is ready to beat her again, and Baker says it’s a tag team match. I did like that Saraya asked Tony if he wants to be her partner before saying she will have a partner.
As they go over Rampage the crowd cheers for Jon Moxley vs Konosuke Takeshida.
The Acclaimed (AEW Tag Team Champions) vs FTR
Dax and Bowens start and they don’t stay in long before we get Cash tagging in and a series of takedowns and near falls. Caster tags in and he works with Dax. They run the ropes and after an arm bar, Bowens is tagged back in. They do a great bit where they both keep blocking the other’s hip tosses. After all four men fight in the ring and we get some crowd pleasing moves as they work in some stereo sharpshooters and brawling outside the ring.
When we get back from the picture in picture, it's Caster and Cash as Cash fights to get to his corner. We see Jay Lethal and his team watching backstage as Dax tags in. Bowens tags in and cleans house. We then move to where The Acclaimed near falls and the crowd is sucked in. FTR is able to hit the Big Rig and Bowens breaks it up at the last minute, which brings out the This Is Awesome chants.
The Acclaimed go for the Arrival and Cash is able to roll out fo the way of Caaster’s flying elbow. Cash goes for the pin after lariats and a power bomb, but Caster rolls through Cash’s jack knife and holds on for the pin and the win.
Winners and still AEW Tag Team Champions: The Acclaimed
A well worked, well put together match where they used different styles to keep things fresh.
After the match, the Gunn Boys are backstage and say they have a present for FTR, a card from the Briscoes for a double dog collar match at Final Battle.
