Young Rock - “On The Ropes”
S3 E3
Randall confronts The Rock about not helping out the President. Rock asks why should he help when Taft was ruthless during the campaign. Randall says it’s for the greater good. Ata calls in and asks where Dewey is, they were supposed to play golf.
Flashback to 1985 and despite losing the WWF tag team titles and being out of Vince’s good graces, Rocky Johnson thinks everything is OK because he’s still getting big checks but spending recklessly on jewelry.
The Rock then flashes back to Ata working with Lars Anderson as her head booker and how she didn’t enjoy it. Anderson puts the title on himself. We see Macho Man vs Bad News Allan & Jake Roberts in the locker room being called fat by Lars.
Ata reminds Rocky to pay the rent and he said he would as soon as his next check from Vince comes but after a week no checks show up. At school Lil Dewey becomes obsessed with wanting a Nintendo.
Rocky calls Pat Patterson asking why he didn’t get paid this week but thanks him for the bonus. Pat says someone should have called him. That wasn’t a bonus that was severance, and that Vince wasn’t renewing his contract. Rocky seems surprised.
Ata suggests Dewey get a job if he wants a Nintendo. On the flip side, Rocky pawns his brand new sunglasses.
Lil' Dewey goes to a local restaurant to apply for a job. Lia surprises him and says he grandson isn’t working anywhere but for her at PPW.
Ata comes home to find Rocky has bleached his hair to freshen up his gimmick. He tells her he’s finished up with WWF. She says she’ll talk Lia and he can wrestle in Hawaii full time.
They get to Lia’s office and Lars Anderson is there. Ata thought it was going to be a private meeting. Lars doesn’t think it’s a great idea to hire Rocky. Lars and Rocky get into an argument but Lia shuts it down saying Rocky is hired and they need to learn how to get along.
Lil Dewey is licking envelopes at Lia’s office. He over hears Lars telling Lia he’s concerned about bringing in Rocky, he doesn’t think he’ll be a draw.
Rocky is wrestling Bad News Allen. Lars interrupts the match and attacks Rocky without clearing it with him first. Ata & Rocky confront him and Lars says he’s the booker and to deal with it.
Lil Dewey asks Downtown Bruno if there is something different about his Dad. Dewey then finds the paw shop receipts when getting Rocky’s bag for him.
At a private dinner, Ata & Rocky tell Lia they can’t work with Lars any longer. Lia tells them how much business has gone up since he took over and that money is great right now, they should work it out and stay. Ata says it’s Lars or her & Rocky. Lia wishes them well in their future endeavors. Ata tells her mother that she’s going to start her own promotion. Lia passive aggressively says that’s great and asks what kind of appetizers they want to order.
With his first payday money Dewey buys Rocky his sunglasses back from the pawn shop.
Randall talks The Rock into taking on the coffee crisis.
