WWE is hugely popular, not just in the US, but also across the world, including the UK. The reason for this? Because they know how to market themselves. They are always on the lookout for exposure and have been known to rope in many celebrities for events and stunts, for example Wayne Rooney. However, no matter how much you scour through the online slots at SlotSource.com, you won’t find any WWE-branded games, which surprises us. But why is that?
One of the biggest sources of revenue for the WWE is merchandise - and this is also useful for extra marketing exposure. It is never hard to find branded T-shirts, hats or lunchboxes and every time one is purchased, the WWE gets money and they have someone else walking around advertising their fights. Take the John Cena merch for example, the "U CAN'T SEE ME" baseball caps, t shirts, sweatbands, and more have been purchased by probably almost every big John Cena fan.
However, that’s not all. There are all sorts of different WWE computer and video games. These bring in vast sums of money and are hugely popular with fans who use this as a way to take the place of their favourite wrestler and get in on the action. Given the popularity of such games, it seems surprising that they haven’t yet ventured into the world of online slots and casino games…
The possibilities are endless. If you think about it, this would be a great money-making opportunity. Not only would fans be able to take on the role of their favourite wrestling star, but they could also win money whilst doing so. There are now lots of branded casino games, based on sports teams, movies, TV shows and pop bands and this is the perfect brand. They could base games on big events such as Summerslam, Wrestlemania - all sorts!
What’s more, the number of slot games that are being released is endless - and the WWE could see this as a great opportunity to cash in on an ever-expanding market. Given the fact that most WWE viewers are 18 or over, they have the perfect audience. So what’s stopping them?
Indeed, it isn’t exactly true that there are NO WWE-type games. Back in the days when it was known as the WWF (not to be confused with the World Wildlife Fund), there was a legend of the ring called Andre the Giant. He actually does have his very own slot game but, because he isn’t associated with the current WWE brand, it isn’t endorsed by them. Ultimately, this means that there are no casino games that are owned by WWE - make sense?
Well, there’s no reason that we know or can fathom as to why the WWE hasn’t yet released any slot games. So this isn’t a question with a straightforward answer. We are sure that, should they decide that this was the way forward, they would attract the best game developers in the world to work with them. NetEnt, Microgaming and Playtech would all be climbing over each other for the privilege - and would also likely allow them to have full control over the design and gameplay of the slot. Any company that was offered the opportunity would be crazy to turn it down.
Maybe it’s as simple as the fact that this is just a bandwagon they don’t care to jump on and that they want to focus on other marketing strategies. Or it might be that Vince McMahon just finds slot games boring or isn’t a fan of online casino games. Who knows? What we can predict, though, is that should they ever change their mind, people would be all over it - and it would create waves of excitement all over the gambling world.
At first glance, it would seem that the WWE has the perfect audience for it. The main market is adults and so its potential is insane. However, it is also possible that Vince McMahon wants to reach out to a younger audience as well, which casino games wouldn’t reach. Up til now, their marketing strategies have all been ageless.
Ultimately, we will never know the reason, but what we do know is that if it does ever happen, you can expect some serious Wrestlemania to hit the industry.
