It is Friday and AEW Rampage is live and is coming from the Mohegan Sun Arena Arena in Uncasville, CT. Our commentary team is Excalibur, Taz, Tony Schaivone, and Jim Ross.
AEW Champion Jon Moxley vs. Matt Menard - Non-Title Eliminator Match.
As is usual on Rampage, Menard is already in the ring. We get a video update of the attack on Mox and MJF by the Firm at the end of Dynamite as Mox comes to the ring.
Parker is on the apron and yelling at Mox, and Mox heads over to him. Matt tries to attack, but Mox is ready for him, tosses him to the floor and Mox just beats Matt from pillar to post. They go into the ring, and Mox keeps up the attack in the corner. Mox tosses Matt to the corner. Matt gets his feet up and is able to lay into Mox with kicks and blows. Matt tries for a power bomb, but Mox is able to escape. Mox goes to the outside. Parker clotheslines Mox on the floor, allowing Matt to crotch Mox on the ring post as we go picture in picture.
When we return to full screen, Mox is beating down Matt in the corner. Parker gets 0n the apron and runs at Mox, and Mos nails him, but Matt is able to get a power bomb into a Boston Crab. Mox makes it to the ropes and Matt breaks on 4. Mox gets a cutter, but then both men are down and take their time to get up.
They get up and Mox starts laying it in with forearms, a King Kong lariat and then a superplex from the second rope. Mox gets a two count. He transitions to an ankle lock. Matt turns over and kicks his way free. Matt gets a subset flip, but Mox follows with a knee and a two count. Mox gets the stomps and as Parker comes in to interfere, Mox hits him with a cutter.
Matt takes advantage, gets a few moves, but when Matt goes for the stomps, he messes up, and Mox transitions into a rear naked sleeper and Matt has to tap out.
Winner: Jon Moxley
Stokely Hathaway comes out and says that Max wants to beat him, but instead, next week, he can fight Lee Moriarty, next week. They then show a promo video for Lee Moriarty.
Mox says he is a talented guy, but he’s hanging out with the crown crowd. He’s made a big mistake, and he will see him next week onDynamite.
We then see there will be a tournament for a title shot at Winter is Coming, with Dante Martin being in the tournament.
Jade Cargill cuts a promo about taking her belt back while doing pullups.
Keith Lee vs Already In The Ring Serpentico
I have now seen a sign that just says Pork Chop Sandwich.
Lee power bombs and pins Serpentico.
Yep. That’s it.
Winner: Ketih Lee
Tony is in the ring and asks him about the rematch with the Acclaimed. He doesn’t get to say anything because the Acclaimed are here, and they cut the music. Max says he has a problem with Lee may have an answer for. Billy Gunn is missing and so is Swerve Strickland. Tony says that Billy Gunn had a family emergency. We then get Swerve on the big screen, and he has Billy tied to a chair. Swerve says he is a filmmaker and he makes horror movies.
Swerve says they will have a tag title match, but Billy Gunn won’t be there. Swerve pulls out pliers and says Billy will be at the hospital. He does something behind Billy’s back and Billy starts to scream. The Acclaimed take off and Lee looks upset as we go to an interview with the Jericho Appreciation Society who are upset that the Blackpool Combat Club cheated since there was a bat in the ring.
The bat Jericho brought into the ring.
We see Jericho’s challenge to any former Ring of Honor Champion, and Tay Conti’s challenge to Madison Reign.
Tay Melo with Sammy Guevara vs. Madison Rayne.
Tay talks trash and pats Madison on the head. They start up with trading covers, and Madison then takes Tay down for a near fall. They talk trash again and Tay slaps Madison. Madison then starts throwing forearms. She hits Tay with a kick and covers for two. They fight in the corner and go to the top. Tay hits a back breaker on the top as we go picture in picture.
When we return to full screen,Madison gets a DDT after Tay had been in control all through the break. Madison is throwing hands when they up and takes Tay down with an elbow strike and then a neck breaker for a two count. Tay crawls to the corner, and when Madison charges in, she gets a foot up to mail Madison. They fight to the top and Madison hits a cutter from the top.
After a near fall, they fight into the ropes. As they get to the middle of the ring, Tay reverses a Casadora for a two count. Tay tries for a pile driver, but Madison reverses it for a two count. Tay drives them both to the corner and they fight there again. Tay hits the Tay KOL and covers for the win.
Winner: Tay Conti
Number one contender by himself,
Lexi is in the back with Ethan Page. She asks why they turned their backs on MJF. He says they didn’t change, MJF decided to change plans. He says MJF didn’t make himself number one by himself, he did it with the Firm. They made sure MJF isn’t 100% for his coming title match. He then says he will win the tournament and beat Moxley at Winter is Coming.
Wardlow and Matt Taven have their promo segment with Mark Henry. Taven gives a solid promo. Wardlow says that he’s awfully confident for a man who is about to be power bombed over and over again.
AEW TNT Champion Wardlow vs. The Kingdom's Matt Taven
Sign in the crowd reminds us the Breath of Fire is better than Undertale for you video game players.
Matt gets some early offense, tells the crowd he’s Matt Taven, and then Wardlow takes over. Matt gets beat down in the ring, and then outside the ring MIke Bennett hits Wardlow from behind. He shrugs it off and then…slowly he turns, step by step, inch by inch until Maria gets between them and allows Matt to attack from behind.
Matt is able to get attacks outside the ring and then drop Wardlow when they get into the ring as we go picture in picture.
When we return to full screen, Matt gets a running knee on Wardlow and a two count. Matt goes to the top and Wardlow catches him and hits a F10. Wardlow then gets a clothesline, a belly to belly suplex, and then a body slam.
He starts for power bombs, and Maria gets on the apron. Matt hits a quick attack, but Wardlow is able to get the first power bomb.
Power Bomb Symphony with 4 movements. Wardlow puts a foot on Matt’s chest for the three count.
Winner and still TNT Champion: Wardlow
Bennett hits a chop block on Wardlow to take him down, and as the attack begins, Samoa Joe comes to the ring and gets rid of the Kingdom.
Powerhouse Hobbs is out and walks to the ring.
From behind, the Embassy attacks Wardlow and Samoa Joe. Hobbs joins them for the beat down.
As Hobbs holds the TNT title we are desperately out of time!
