10/16/22 Results from New Japan’s Battle Autumn ‘22 from Niigata, Japan:
Hiromu Takahashi comes to the ring to hype the crowd. This was a “cheering event”. Some areas of Japan there is still no cheering allowed due to COVID.
Tomoaki Honma and Togi Makabe vs. Ryohei Oiwa and Kosei Fujita
Makabe forces Oiwa to tap out to a Boston Crab.
Great O-Khan, Jeff Cobb and Gideon Grey vs. Toru Yano, Tomohiro Ishii and YOSHI-HASHI
Yano hits a double low blow on O-Khan and Grey. YOSHI-HASHI traps Grey in the Butterfly Lock.
Grey taps out.
Jado, Hiroyoshi Tenzan, Hikuleo and Ryusuke Taguchi vs. SHO, Yujiro Takahashi, EVIL and Dick Togo
Tenzan trapped EVIL in an Anaconda Vice. Yujiro grabbed his Pimp Stick and tried to enter the ring but the referee stopped him. Togo saved EVIL by choking out Tenzan with his metal wire. Massive heat from the crowd. Everyone hits the ring. EVIL hits Everything is Evil on Tenzan.
EVIL pins Tenzan.
TAKA Michinoku, Yoshinobu Kanemaru, DOUKI, El Desperado and Zack Sabre Jr. vs. Master Wato, Tiger Mask, Ren Narita, Alex Zayne and David Finlay
Zayne hits a Cinnamon Twist on TAKA.
Zayne pins TAKA.
Lots of interaction between wrestlers (even heels like Suzuki-Gun) and the fans.
Hiromu Takahashi and Shingo Takagi vs. Gedo and Taiji Ishimori
Takagi pins Gedo after a Pumping Bomber.
BUSHI, Titan and Tetsuya Naito vs. Francesco Akira, TJP and Aaron Henare
Huge pop for Naito’s entrance.
Good match. Henare matched up well with Naito. Titan and BUSHI took the aerial fight to the Jr. Tag Champs.
BUSHI hits a Code Breaker on TJP and Titan hits a springboard double stomp.
Titan pins TJP.
This win clearly puts BUSHI and Titan as the top contenders.
Titan challenges United Empire for the titles. Akira accepts.
The title match should happen at the November 5 event. Jr. World Tag League will follow later in November.
NJPW World Television Title Tournament:
Round 1 Match: Hirooki Goto vs. KENTA
Stiff match. KENTA tried his Bullet Club tactics but Goto fought. KENTA gets a chair and Goto hits a lariat and the chair hits KENTA in the face. He is busted open hardway over his right eye, and swelling fast. KENTA with a low blow and tries for a pin with his foot on the ropes but the referee stops the count.
KENTA and the referee argue over the chair. KENTA lays stiff open hand slaps to Goto’s face. They exchange reversals. KENTA sends Goto into the turnbuckle. KENTA fumbles a Go To Sleep, but he picks up Goto and hits the second one.
KENTA pins Goto.
KENTA moves to Round 2.
Ringside officials run in to check both wrestlers.
Good match. When these men battle, it is always very stiff.
Round 1 Match: SANADA vs. Taichi
Miho Abe is here and always around for Taichi’s big single matches.
Both men tried to one up each other and played to the crowd. Until Taichi caught SANADA in a Gedo Clutch. Two count. They exchanged reversals. Taichi powerbombed SANADA on his neck which looked wicked.
Both men pulled out all their signature moves and finishers. Awesome match. SANADA goes for an O’Conner Roll. Taichi reverses into a Gedo Clutch. SANADA reverses back into an O’Conner Roll.
SANADA pins Taichi. With 3 seconds left in the match.
SANADA moves into Round 2 to face KENTA.
Great stuff in this match. With the 15 minute time limit, it changes the structure, timing and storytelling of the match. Most of these wrestlers can go 20 - 30 minutes without a problem. Taichi and SANADA packed a lot of action into this match.
SANADA got the mic to send the screaming fans home happy.
Also, Royal Quest II is now up and streaming on New Japan World finally.
FTR vs. Aussie Open was great. Dax Harwood’s comments was awesome. I hope FTR will make a title defense in the Tokyo Dome at Wrestle Kingdom.
