WOW - WOMEN OF WRESTLING TV REPORT

By Cory Strode on 2022-10-16 20:11:00

WOW - Women of Wrestling aired over the weekend.  Our commentary team is David McLane, Steven Dickey, and AJ Mendez.

If you haven’t even seen WOW, most everyone has an over the top gimmick much like GLOW in the 1980’s. It’s syndicated, so it may show at different times depending when you live on weekend days.  Here in the Minneapolis area, it is on at 1 pm and 10 pm on Saturdays.

Now that the introduction is over:

Each episode has a title, and this week’s is Double Trouble, Triple Threat.

Holidead and Chainsaw w/Siren the Voodoo Doll vs MIami’s Sweet Heat (Lindsey and Laurie Carlson) in a tag team title tournament match

Holidead is also working in MLW and has been in Ring on Honor using that same gimmick.

Holidead and Laurie start out with a greco roman knuckle lock, which Holidead wins.  They work in the corner and after Laurie gets a one count cover, she tags in Lindsey. They couple team Holidead and cover for a two count. Holidead is able to tag in Chainsaw, who only stays in for a brief time.

As Holidead distracts the ref, Siren rips at Lindsey’s hair.  Laurie comes in to break it up and the ref keeps her from doing so as Holidead takes over. After tossing around Laurie, Chainsaw is tagged in again to work over Lindsey in the corner. Chainsaw misses a charge into the corner to allow Laurie to tag in and no matter what she does, Chainsaw won’t go down until she gets a leaping cross body. Lindsey is tagged in and they hit Chainsaw with a high/low for a two count.

Chainsaw gets a swinging neck breaker. She tags in Holidead and they try to double team, but Sweet Heat is able to toss Chainsaw and Holidead into each other. Chainsaw is double drop kicked out of the ring, and Holidead is dropped with a high/low and covers for the three count.

Winners: Miami Sweet Heat

Holidead worked around Miami Sweet Heat’s limited move set and Chainsaw just did bit power stuff.

We get a video package about Ice Cold.  She talks about how her father passed and her brother died as she was trying out for the Olympics. She says she tore her achilles tendon and then was assaulted by a teammate. Going to competitions caused massive panic attacks. The only way for her to heal and move on was wrestling, and she will win because she’s ice cold.

Much darker than we are used to with WOW. I don’t know if the tone switch works with the campy presentation and characters, but brave of Ice Cold to go into these things in her profile video.

Ice Cold vs Kandi Krush

Kandi’s gimmick is that she is a former boxer.

They quickly trade slams. Kandi gets a telegraphed backslide for a tow count and the crowd chants for Kandi. Ice cold is able to escape benign on Kandi’s shoulders with an eye rake, allowing her to take control of the match. Ice walks over Kandi to disrespect her. She then misses a moonsault. Kandi uses her recovery time to fire up and hit the Kandi Krusher (a discus punch) and covers for the pin.

Winner: Kandi Krush

Ice had a great moonsault, and the rest of the match was pretty standard stuff.

We get a video with the Heavy Metal Sisters talking about how the Bully Busters seem to be at odds and they are always together, ready to fight and party all night.

Heavy Metal Sisters (Razor, Mezmeriah, and Fury ) vs The Bully Busters (Keta Rush, Stephy Slays, and Vivian Rivera)

Slays and Razor start off, and Slays quickly takes Razor down. Rivera tags in and they work to a tow count on Razor. Razor tags in Mesmeriah, who is quickly taken down by Rivera. Fury and Rush are tagged in and Rush keeps up the control. Slays tags in and Fury is able to turn the tide and takes control.

The Heavy Metal Sisters start working quick tags in the corner. Fury works over Slays with chokes on the ropes and near falls. Slays gets a quick roll up for two and Fury is NOT pleased by this and drags her over to tag in Razor. Razor works her over, at one point holding her in a modified abdominal stretch while taunting the Bully Busters.  Slays is able to get a Russian leg sweep and after a two count, she tags in Rush and Razor tags in Fury.

As Rush is trying a comeback, Fury cuts her off. Rush tags in Rivera, and as the ref is distracted, Razor assists with a front slam by  Fury who then covers for the win.

Winners: The Heavy Metal Sisters

An OK trios match with the Heavy Metal Sisters doing most of the work since they have been around for a long time in WOW.  Razor is always fun to watch because of her work and facial expressions.

We get a video package of Leia Makoa discussing her Samoan tattoos and how her family weren’t supportive of her being in the business.

We then get a video package of Lana Starr prepping Penelope Pink for her match. It’s a 20 second highlight of the video from a few weeks ago.

Penelope Pink w/Lana Starr vs Leia Makoa

This is our main event. Lana makes everyone stand up for Pink. Pink says she is honored to be managed by Lana Starr, and she will embarrass all of the Women of WOW and look good doing it.

Pink starts with the advantage, out powering Leia. Leia is able to get a shoulder tackle in return and takes over the match. Pink begs off after each big move, saying that she needs to recover, and Leia ignores it. Whenever the ref isn’t looking, Lana Starr attacks Leia.

Pink is able to snap Leia down and then goes outside the ring to posture with Lana. When she tries to get in the ring, Leia knocks her to the floor.  Leia tries for a baseball slide, and Pink wraps her in the ring apron. This moves to brawling outside the ring. When the match moves back into the ring, Pink takes too much time and Leia is able to get her on the top and hits an avalanche suplex.

Both women are down. They get up slowly and Leia is up first and gets a Samon drop and a cover for the three.

Winner and getting a title match: Leia Makoa

Pink was a good, over the top heel, and Leia had some impressive moves.

And that’s it for this week!
