By James Kurokawa on 2022-10-15 16:20:00

10/15/22 Results from New Japan’s Battle Autumn ‘22 -  Korakuen Hall, Tokyo Japan:

KENTA and Gedo vs. Taichi and TAKA Michinoku

Taichi pins Gedo with the Gedo Clutch.

Ren Narita, Togi Makabe and Tomoaki Honma vs. Tomohiro Ishii, Hirooki Goto and Toru Yano

Goto pins Honma after a GTR.

After the match, Narita and Ishii continue to fight outside the ring.  Both men had to be pulled apart.   Narita and Ishii will meet in the first round of the Television Title Tournament.

Ren Narita’s return to Japan has been good so far, after spending several years in New Japan Strong and training under Katsuyori Shibata.   Narita has been dubbed “Son of Strong Style”, which carries a lot of weight.  The match between Ishii and Narita on October 26 should be good.

El Desperado, Yoshinobu Kanemaru, DOUKI and Zack Sabre Jr. vs.  Alex Zayne, Tiger Mask, Master Wato and David Finlay

Finlay hits a Blue Thunder Bomb and a Trash Panda on DOUKI.  Finlay pins DOUKI

After everyone leaves, Master Wato takes the mic and tells the Korakuen crowd that he will win the IWGP Jr. Heavyweight Championship at Wrestle Kingdom.

Jado and Hikuleo vs. Yujiro Takahashi and SHO

Hikuleo took a spill to the floor.   SHO choked Hikuleo with his wrench.   Yujiro hits a low blow on Jado and hits Pimp Juice.

Yujiro pins Jado

BUSHI, Titan, SANADA and Tetsuya Naito vs. Francesco Akira, TJP, Great O-Khan and Gideon Grey

Solid match.  Los Ingobernales de Japon dispatched most of United Empire to the floor, leaving Grey in the ring.   BUSHI hits a Code Breaker on Grey and Titan follows with a springboard double stomp.

Titan pins Grey.

Naito and Titan attack Akira after the match.  TJP grabs Gideon Grey’s cane and breaks it up.

Hiromu Takahashi and Shingo Takagi vs. El Phantasmo and Taiji Ishimori

Takagi brings his newly fixed KOPW trophy to the ring.

ELP took out a trash can with weapons.  He and Takagi attacked each other with metal sheets and trash can lids.   ELP blasted the referee in the head with a metal sheet.

ELP and Ishimori were disqualified.

ELP and Takagi continue to beat each other with weapons.  ELP again smashed the KOPW Trophy.    ELP hit a punch to Takagi’s groin and put a trash can over his head.   ELP smashed the trash can with weapons.  ELP was about to hit Thunderkiss ‘86 when Hiromu chased him off.

As Bullet Club escaped to the locker room, ELP looks into the camera and says “New York City Shingo!  Anything goes!   New York Street Fight!  ECW Rules Baby!”

That is one possible stipulation for their match for Rumble on 44th Street on October 27.

NJPW World Television Title Tournament:

Round 1 Match:  Aaron Henare vs. EVIL, with Dick Togo

Solid match.   Henare got a lot of offense on EVIL.   Henare trapped EVIL in Ultima.  Lights go out.   The light pop on and the referee is knocked down and Henare is rolling on the mat as if he got hit with a low blow.   EVIL gets a chair and smashes Henare in the head.   Henare absorbs the impact and stares a death look at EVIL.   Henare hammers EVIL with punches and a headbutt.  Henare hits a Rampage.  Two count.  Henare with a second rope senton.  Two count.  Henare hits Togo off the ring apron and drops EVIL with a roundhouse kick.   Henare misses a top rope senton.  Henare goes for a spear, but EVIL sends him into the ring post.   EVIL hits Everything is Evil.

EVIL pins Henare.

EVIL moves on to Round 2 in the Tournament.

Henare still looked strong despite the loss.  EVIL did have to use his brain to win the match.  He took a chairshot to the head and still beat down EVIL.  None of the usual House of Torture tricks led to the result.  Togo was not really a factor in the final outcome, so EVIL looked strong too.

Round 1 Match:  YOSHI-HASHI vs. Jeff Cobb

Cobb controlled the match early with his power moves.   Until Cobb tweaked his knee.  YOSHI-HASHI fought back.   In his weakened state, Cobb goes for a Tour of the Islands, but could not hold on to YOSHI-HASHI.  YOSHI-HASHI gets Cobb in position for Karma but instead of lifting him up, he rolls Cobb into a cradle.

YOSHI-HASHI pins Cobb.

YOSHI-HASHI moves into Round 2 of the Tournament to face EVIL.

Cobb was shocked by the result, but he kept his cool, until he shook the guardrails and almost pulled them apart.

Solid match.   Cobb and O-Khan are in the tag title picture so the result makes sense.   There is still a lot to go in the tournament but it would make sense for YOSHI-HASHI to win it all.   He has proven himself as a Tag Team Champion and NEVER 6-man Champion.   The Television Title would be perfect for YOSHI-HASHI for his first singles title in New Japan.
