10/14 NEW JAPAN RESULTS FROM TOKYO

By James Kurokawa  on 2022-10-15 11:36:00

From Korakuen Hall, Tokyo Japan:

This show is free on New Japan World.

1 - Ren Narita and Ryohei Oiwa vs. Tomohiro Ishii and Yuto Nakashima

Narita forces Nakashima to submit to a figure four leg lock.

2 - El Desperado, Taichi, DOUKI and TAKA Michinoku vs. Master Wato, Tomoaki Honma, Togi Makabe and Rocky Romero

Wato locks TAKA in Vendeval.   TAKA taps out.

After the match, Wato taunted Desperado who got in his face.   Desperado shoved Wato in the face and went back to the locker.

3 - Ryusuke Taguchi, Hikuleo, Jado and Hiroyoshi Tenzan vs. SHO, Yujiro Takahashi, Dick Togo and EVIL

SHO hits Jado with a wrench.  Yujiro hits Pimp Juice on Jado.

Yujiro pins Jado

Hikuleo is in special position to challenge for the NEVER Openweight 6-man Titles on October 23, then battles Karl Anderson for the NEVER Openweight on November 5.

4 - Jeff Cobb, Great O-Khan and Aaron Henare vs. Toru Yano, YOSHI-HASHI and Hirooki Goto

Henare goes for an Ultima on Yano.  Yano hits him with a low blow.    Yano pins Henare with a cradle.

Cobb and YOSHI-HASHI trade words as they will face each other in the Television Title Tournament.

5 - BUSHI, Titan and Tetsuya Naito vs. Francesco Akira, TJP and Gideon Grey

Titan pins Grey after a springboard double stomp.

Good match.  Titan is a fresh partner for BUSHI and they work well together.  Titan matched well with TJP.   These teams battling for the IWGP Jr. Tag belts will be fun to watch.

6 - Shingo Takagi, Hiromu Takahashi and SANADA vs. El Phantasmo, KENTA and Taiji Ishimori

As a part of losing the last match, ELP kept calling Takagi “Daddy” for the entire match.    Funny, but will get old soon.

ELP punched Takagi in the groin and went for the pin, but the referee took a bump.   ELP grabbed a chair to beat on Takagi.   ELP swung the chair and missed.  The seat fell out of the chair.  ELP smacked the chair on the ground and tossed the broken chair to Takagi.  As the referee got to his feet.   The classic Eddie Guerrero spot.   ELP argued that Takagi hit him with a chair.  Takagi blasts ELP with the chair and beats him with it.

Takagi is disqualified.

Chris Charlton said El Phantasmo and Shingo Takagi will face each other Rumble at 44th Street at the Palladium in New York on October 27.  The fans will be able to choose the stipulation of the match.

They could build the match into something special in New York.

NJPW World Television Title Tournament:

7 - Round 1 Match:  Yoshinobu Kanemaru vs. David Finlay

Finlay hits a Trash Panda and pins Kanemaru.

David Finlay advances to Round 2.

Solid match.  The match got close to the 15 minute time limit.  I will expect most Television Title matches be similar as most of these wrestlers can go for 30+ minutes.

8 - Round 1 Match:  Alex Zayne vs. Zack Sabre Jr.

ZSJ took some punishment to his ribs.  The same ribs that bothered him during the G1 Climax, and he was favoring them again in this match.   ZSJ had counters for every move from The Sauce.   With less than a minute to go, ZSJ countered a Taco Driver into a knee bar and ankle lock submission.  Zayne tried to fight out of it but ZSJ held on.

Zayne taps out with 5 seconds before the time limit.

Zack Sabre Jr. advances to Round 2 to face David Finlay.

Another solid match.  The time limit will bring good drama to these title matches.

ZSJ says he lost the Tag Titles at Wrestle Kingdom, he tried to win the New Japan Cup and the U.S. Heavyweight Title but he was not successful.  But now he has a chance.  He will  get to Wrestle Kingdom and win the World Television Title and earn his first singles title in New Japan.
