It’s Wednesday and AEW Dynamite is coming from the Coca-Cola Coliseum in Toronto Canada. Our commentary team is Excalibur, Taz, Tony Schiavone, and they introduce the new member of the broadcast team Renee Paquette!
She brings out Christian Cage, she asks him what it’s like to be back in Toronto. He guarantees a victory tonight and mocks the Toronto Maple Leaves.
Luchasaurus vs Jungle Boy
We still have no idea why Luchasaurus turned on JB, so I guess we are just to accept it as something that happened. Cage joins commentary and Renee does not.
JB starts out hot with drop kicks and similar attacks. When they run the ropes, Luchasaurus is able to grab JB and suplex him. From there, it’s going to be all Luchasaurus. We have a table set up and Luchasaurus just tosses JB around the ring through the commercial break. Luchasaurus drives his shoulder into the ring post after a spear so that JB can get in some offense.
JB is able to put Luchasaurus through the table with a sunset flip front he apron. JB starts to roll Luchasaurus into the ring as Cage walks to the ring. As JB is slowly walking to the ring, Luchasurus sits up. JB heads into the ring and Luchasaurus takes over again. JB is able to get in attacks in the corner and when he runs in for a charge, Luchasaurus is able to grab JB with his legs and slam him to the mat. That was a cool looking move.
As they fight back and forth, JB turns a Samoan drop into a crucifix. JB gets a killswitch on Luchasaurus for a two count. After an attempt to win with the cnare trap, JB sees that Cage was trying to interfere. JB stalks him outside the ring. When he goes into the ring, Luchasuarus slams him off the top and then hits his version of the Attitude Adjustment for the
Cover and the win.
Winner: Luchasaurus
This match went much longer than it should have. JB didn’t look realistic against Luchasaurus unless he was hitting kicks.
Renee is in the back with Ethan Page and Stokely Hathaway. They announce that Stokely has bought Private Party’s contract. They argue with Matt Hardy on the side of Private Party. Ethan says if Matt can beat Ethan on Friday, their contact is freed up. If Matt loses, he’s under contract to The Firm as well.
In the ring, QR Marshall starts the crowd chanting for War-Joe by saying their name is silly and repeating it. Utter heel cheeseball stuff.
Wardlow and Samoa Joe vs. QT Marshall and Nick Comorado
QT and NIck don’t get in a whole lot. Joe wins by taking out Nick with the rear naked choke.
Winners: Wardlow and Samoa Joe
After the match, QT is set up to take the powerbombs, but instead, Prince Nana comes out and brings down the Embassy. Nick Cage says they should have stayed out of their business when they took out FTR last week.
This brings out FTR who get a HUGE pop. Dax challenges Cage and the Gate of Agony and they will take them on with Shawn Spears, who is from Toronto, and he joins them. Aaron Solo comes into the ring to start trouble. FTR hit him with the Big Rig.
Tony is in the back with Jericho. 2.0 do the talking by talking to Daniel Garcia and how mad they are at him for leaving the Jericho Appreciation Society. Jericho says that Garcia is like a son to 2.0 and a little brother to him. He then talks about how he will beat Danielson later tonight.
Swerve Strickland vs Billy Gunn
This looks to be the first competitive match of the night.
The Acclaimed rap Billy on their way to the ring.
Before the bell, Swerve’s facial expressions as a heel are GREAT. He has a look of pure dismissive evil on his face. They run the ropes and Billy knocks Swerve off his feet with every shoulder tackle. Swerve gets what looks like a low blow with a kick as we go to commercial.
Swerve has been working on Billy leg through the commercial break. As Billy is struggling to get to hit feet, Swerve is mocking him and jacking his jaw atr him. Billy is able to get a spinning slam, but his leg gives out after the slam. It’s the first match we’ve seen Swerve work pure heel and he saves the leaps for late in the match as attempted pins. Billy goes for an arm drag, but Swerve is able to reverse it into a pin and grab the ropes for the pin.
Winner: Swerve Strickland
The Acclaimed come to the ring and they check on Billy as Swerve leaves. Before we get our scissoring, and Mark Sterling comes out. Tony Nese says that it has been issued by the U.S. Government (booooooo) and Mark says he owns scissoring, and he gets the money from the t-shirts, and he will not allow them to use the gesture.
Mark says they can work something out later, but instead, scissor me Daddy Nese!
In the back, MJF is with Alex, who asks him about what happened after the match last week. Stokely Hathaway interrupts and says it was a great plan. MJF says that this was strike two, and if he gets strike three, he’s fired.
MJF then cuts a promo that he has a secret past with Regal and Regal doesn’t want it to come to life. He then says he doesn’t know if he would have shook Wheeler Yuta’s hand and he doesn’t know. He then says he doesn’t care if people don’t like him because he doesn’t like who he has to be to be the next world champion.
Tony Schiavone is in the ring and brings out Jon Moxley. Mox cuts a promo about hwo when you are champion,. You can’t be anxious, you have to be ready to fight. This bring out Adam Page who is in street clothes. Page holds out his hand for a handshake and Mox shakes his hand. Page says that Mox needs to say whatever he needs to say to his face.
Page reminds Mox that he said last week he respected him, and Page says it meant the world to him. He says that Mox is a hell of a champion, and he says he saw the kind of man he wanted to be. We see that MJF is holding the chip and watching from a Skybox. Page says it shattered his illusions when Mox called him a nice kid.
Mox says that’s exactly what he thinks about him, he’s a nice kid. He says if Page has the chance to take him out, he doesn’t have the guts to pull the trigger.
Page then says that he’s watched his old friends disappear and his new friends seem to be disappearing. He’s not the same man he was because he’s angry, her’s depressed, but he’s still here because he is a man. He talks about how he keeps coming back with fire and emotion. Page says he doesn’t care if Mox’s family is back, he’s going to take the title he should have never let slip away. Page gives his word he will take the title back.
The crowd chants for MJF, oddly.
The announcers put over that Mox was trying to light a fire under Page, and it was his best promo since before he gained the title last year.
We get a video showing the feud between Jericho and Danielson using old Ring of Honor footage of Danielson.
Chris Jericho (Ring of Honor World Champion) vs Bryan Danielson
William Regal and Ian Riccaboni join the commentary team. We do not get Regal flirting with Excalibur tonight, sadly.
Jericho offers his hand for the Code of Honor and Bryan kicks it away. Bryan starts on fire, with kicks, whips and then hits a tope into Jericho on the outside. The crowd, feeling cheated the couldn’t sing Judas, does so anyway.
In the ring, Jericho fights back with chops and then a series of blows in the corner. Bryan chops back and they then chop each other across the ring. They fight on the top rope and Jericho gets in ten blows and a hurancanrana as we go to picture in picture.
This match started with 45 minutes left in the show, which is a long time for a main event. We come back to full screen, and Jericho gets the kick off the ropes and then a leap onto Bryan on the floor. Danielson has been working the back and the midsection when he does have the advantage, and he uses that to slap on the LeBell lock. Jericho reverses it to the Liontamer. Bryan is able to reverse it and the crowd is booing loudly.
Excalibur is laying back on commentary and letting Taz and Riccaboni do most of the heavy lifting which gives the match a different feel. We’re at 30 minutes left in the show and it feels like these guys are int he final stages of the match with trading near falls and submissions. Jericho shoves Bryan into the ref and both men are down. 2.0 tosses the belt into the ring and Jericho waits for Bryan to get up.
Garcia runs to the ring and grabs the belt from Jericho. Bryan gets the psycho knee and Garcia drops Bryan with the belt. The ref is rolled back into the ring and Jericho crawls to the cover. Jericho is able to get the three count and the win.
Winner and still Ring of Honor Champion: Chris Jericho
Yuta, Claudio and Regal come to the ring. The JAS leaves the ring.
It furthers the plot of Jericho dishonoring the ROH title, and they are also making sure to use “Sports entertainment” style screw jobs. I can understand why people are mad about it, but that's what they are doing.
Nyla Rose is with Renee, and Nyla and Vickie say that Nyla is the TBS champion. Anna Jay AS challenges for the belt on Rampage Friday. Nyla says to show up Friday and she will whip her A.s.s.
Britt Baker and Jamie Hayter vs Hikaru Shida and Toni Storm
Shida and Hayter lock up and Shida shoves her back and calls for Baker. She does not get what she wants and after they run the ropes, Storm tags in. Baker grabs Storm’s boot to distract her so that Hayter can beat her down during the picture in picture break.
We get back to Shida attacking Baker, which is the big feud at this point. We get a whole lot fo all four women in the ring, and Aubry Edwards is usually better at refereeing this kind fo thing. They have a sequence where Shida and Storm are working over Baker that leads to a pin attempt broken up by Hayter that was messy and didn’t look good at all.
Shida and Baker do a series of reversals until Shida is able to hold Baker for the three count and the win.
Winners: Hikaru Shida and Toni Storm
I liked this match until the botchfest toward the end and they never quite came back from that.
Butcher and Blade have a promo for their match on Friday.
Pac (All Atlantic Champion) vs Orange Cassidy
Cassidy is serious before the match starts. No sunglasses, no slacker gimmick.
Cassidy tries for the Orange Punch immediately. He misses and Pac is all over Cassidy. Pac has Cassidy beat down, puts his panda in his pockets and then does the soft kicks to Cassidy. When he goes for the final kick, Cassidy pops up and hits a standing drop kick. They move to the floor when Pac hits a falcon arrow and we go to picture in picture pretty early in the match.
Pac has beat down Cassidy on the ramp through the break, and Cassidy has to roll down the ramp to get into the ring by the ten count. Pac slaps on the Brutalizer as soon as Cassidy is in the ring. Cassidy gets to the ropes to break the hold. The ref stops Pac from getting the ring bell hammer and Cassidy is able to recover and take control.
He gets in his big moves and Pac is able to reverse it after those moves and gets another Brutalizer. Cassidy gets to the ropes and Pac goes for the hammer again, but at the timekeeper’s table and holding the hammer is Danhausen. Pac takes him out and the ref is able to take the hammer from Pac.
Pac has a second hammer and gets into the ring, He runs into an Orange Punch from Cassidy, and Cassidy has the hammer. As Cassidy is deciding if he will use the hammer, Pac is able to get a quick rollup and a two count. Cassidy kicks out and gets the Orange Punch, and hits it a third time and covers for the three count and the win.
Winner and NEW All Atlantic Champion
Now we see why they had this as the main event. Big celebration in the ring as we are desperately out of time.
