New Japan Pro Wrestling has announced the first round for the NJPW World Television Championship tournament:
10/14 - David Finlay vs. Yoshinobu Kanemura.
10/14 - Zack Sabre Jr. vs. Alex Zayne.
10/15 - YOSHI-HASHI vs. Jeff Cobb.
10/15 - Aaron Henaro vs. EVIL.
10/16 - SANADA vs. Taihi Ishimori.
10/16 - KENTA vs. Hirooki Goto.
10/26 - Ren Narita vs. Tomohiri Ishii.
10/26 - Great O-Khan vs. Toru Yano.
Quick thoughts: This lineup looks like it will be a good tournament. Based on the criteria (younger wrestlers, quicker pace, etc.) that they announced at Declaration of Power, the only wrestlers in the tournament who would fit the description is Ren Narita, Aaron Henare and Alex Zayne. Many of the wrestlers are already established stars in New Japan. This title is similar to the NEVER Openweight Title in that the tournament has both Juniors and Heavyweights competing. The Title is tied to TV ASAHI channel in Japan, which will broadcast all title matches, so it will be interesting to see who will win to be the inaugural TV champion.
