In an interview with Sam Roberts, MJF did what Tony Khan wouldn't and talked in-depth about what happened when he no-showed the fan signing earlier this year. He tells the story at about the 37:00 minute mark of the interview. According to MJF, the whole situation was a shoot. He said that the whole situation was about getting more money. He wouldn't confirm that he bought an airline ticket, but he didn't deny it either. But according to him, it was all a shoot. Now keep in mind, he's a wrestler.
About being given a live Mic on Dynamite, he said, hypothetically, let's say he showed up and Tony Khan thought things were OK and they weren't, so he said what he said. He said that's hypothetical. What he did say is he got the money that he wanted so he's back. Does that mean it's a shoot? Given the way AEW likes to play with the internet fans, who knows. And to be fair, he actually claims there is a "winner's purse" later in the interview, so.....
