The fourth episode of WOW - Women of Wrestling aired over the weekend. Our commentary team is David McLean, Steven Dickey, and AJ Mendez.
If you haven’t even seen WOW, most everyone has an over the top gimmick much like GLOW in the 1980’s. It’s syndicated, so it may show at different times depending when you live on weekend days. Here in the Minneapolis area, it is on at 1 pm and 10 pm on Saturdays.
Now that the introduction is over:
Each episode has a title, and this week’s is Fight Fire With Fire.
Sophia Lopez, the greatest attorney in the world says she has found the best wrestler in the world, Tormenta, and she should be in a match with The Beast (who is the WOW champion), who she has fought in Mexico. She also says that Tormenta will be the first Latina superstar in WOW from Mexico.
Tonga Twins (Kaos and Kona) vs Princess Aussie and Tiki Chammorro in the Tag Team Tournament
Tonga Twins are the heels in this match.
Aussie and one of the Twins start off, and she ends the sequence with a spinning head scissors and tags in Tiki. This is where the Twins take over with quick tags and power moves. The announcers don't differentiate between the two, and neither can I, so that must be their gimmick. Tiki has a nice 619 and then runs to the ropes to get attacked by the other twin from the apron. Aussie comes in to break up a pin and all four women fight in the middle of the ring letting the twins do simultaneous attacks.
Aussie is rolled out of the ring and the Twins miss an attack in the corner so Aussie can tag in and clean house. In her attack she makes the Twins kick each other. Both of the Twins are worked to the outside and Aussie leaps from the top onto them. The Twins catch her and Tiki leaps onto all three of them.
Aussie rolls one of the Twins in and gets a two count. Aussie tags in Tiki and she takes a combination Samoan Drop and Neck Breaker as one of the Twins cover for the three count.,
Winners: The Tonga Twins
The announcers let us know it is Tiki’s first time on TV, and her inexperience cost the match. For heels, the Twins didn’t do much in the way of cheating.
Next up is a video package about Randi Rah Rah, who is working the cheerleader gimmick. She is in the dressing room with Coach Campenelli. The Coach explains that she was a cheerleader at one time, but…Randi has to get to the ring, and Coach mocks her behind her back.
BK Rhythm vs Randi Rah Rah
BK addresses Randi and raps about Randi not being a challenge.
We then get the music for Jesse Jones, and she comes to the ring, and says she has to have a partner to be in the tag team tournament, and she says BK should join her.
Coach Campenelli comes to the ting and the crowd cheers her and she teams with Randi.
Randi runs the ropes with BK, and then Jesse and Coach trade arm bars. When they lock up, Jesse is able to escape by pulling hair. Randi tags in and is able to shoulder tackle Jesse and get a two count. Jesse whips Randi into the ropes where BK kicks her in the back when the ref is distracted. From there, BK is tagged and they work Randi over in their corner with quick tags.
Randi escapes a clothesline by dropping into the splits, and Jesse joins her and pushes her, drawing in Coach. Jesse misses a butt drop, allowing Randi to get a pump kick and tag in Coach, who cleans house. When Jesse comes in to break it up, she pulls out her whistle. Jesse tosses the whistle, and Coach drops to grab it. BK trips over her and Coach rolls her up with a handful of tights for the win.
Winners: Randi Rah Rah and Coach Campenelli
Looks like the story here is that while Randi is a no-cheating babyface, Coach will do the dirty work to get the wins.
We get a video package to introduce Reina Del Rey, who is a tough woman from LA, who comes to the arena in a Lowrider.
Reina Del Rey vs Leia Makoa
Leia is Samoan and seems to be a babyface.
Reina doesn’t break clean when they lock up and goes to the ropes, pushing Leia when they break. The second time Leia decides not to take it and hits a series of offensive moves with kicks and strikes. Reina uses old school heel tactics with choking her on the second rope until the ref counts four. Leia’s stuff looks good, and the story of the match is that she wants to hit the largest Reina with a Samoan drop.
When she does get it, she can only get a two count. Reina records and slams Leia (called the West Coast Custom) for the three count.
Winner: Reina Del Ray
Reina calls out The Beast and wants the World Championship and doesn’t care what little girls she has to take out for it.
We get an introduction video for Tormenta and how being a young mother did not stop her dream of being a luchador. There were times she had to leave her son, but she did what she had to so that he could get ahead in life. Now, she is in WOW, and nothing will get in her way.
Beast cuts a promo in the back as well.
Sophia Lopez comes out for Tormenta. She introduces Tormenta after letting us all know she is the greatest attorney in the world.
The Beast (WOW World Champion) vs Tormenta
Beast is built like a bodybuilder, and looked great when I saw her in the previous version on WOW.
They lock up twice and each one is able to walk the other to the corner. They run the ropes and when Beast tries for a diving attack, Sophia hits her in the head with her titanium briefcase while the ref isn’t looking.
Tormenta gets to ground and pound for a minute, but when she gets up to try for a pin, Beast spears her. Beast sets up Tormenta for a power bomb, but Reina Del Rey comes fromt he back to jack jaws from ringside. Beast tosses Tormenta aside and faces Reina. Tormenta attacks Beast from behind and Reina joins in.
The ref calls for a DQ.
Winner by Disqualification: The Beast.
Tormenta is attacking Reina as well as Beast and all three women are brawling. The referees come from the abc to hold them apart and we are out of time!
