9/23 NEW JAPAN RESULTS

By James Kurokawa on 2022-09-24 17:27:00

From Takamatsu City, Kagawa, Japan:

Due to the massive typhoon that hit the country, several dates of the tour needed to be canceled and cards had to be revised.  KUSHIDA is also out with health concerns.

1 - Kosei Fujita vs. Ryohei Oiwa

Fujita forces Oiwa to tap out to a Boston Crab.

2 - Chase Owens, Bad Luck Fale and Hikuleo vs. Jeff Cobb, Great O-Khan and Gideon Grey

Hikuleo pins Grey after a power slam and a big Chokeslam.

3 - El Phantasmo and KENTA vs. Shingo Takagi and BUSHI

KENTA forces BUSHI to tap out to Game Over.

ELP and Takagi continue their feud. Both have good chemistry in the ring.  When their feud culminates with a singles match, it will be a great match and ELP will look strong as a heavyweight.

4 - TAKA Michinoku, Taichi and Zack Sabre Jr. vs. Hiromu Takahashi, SANADA and Tetsuya Naito

Hiromu pokes TAKA in the eye and pins him with a Hiromu Roll.

ZSJ and Naito continue to fight after the match, with both of them taking out young lions.

5 - Bad Dude Tito, Shane Haste and JONAH vs. Togi Makabe, Tomoaki Honma and Kazuchika Okada

JONAH pins Honma after a Torpedo.

JONAH continues to look dominant as he and Okada will have their singles match in early October.

6 - Toru Yano, Hiroshi Tanahashi, Jado and Tama Tonga vs. Doc Gallows, Karl Anderson, Taiji Ishimori and Jay White, with Gedo

The Good Brothers try for a Magic Killer on Tanahashi.  Yano trips Anderson.  Tanahashi rolls up Gallows for a pin.

7 - NEVER Openweight 6-man Championship Dog Cage Match:    SHO, Yujiro Takahashi and EVIL, with Dick Togo vs. Hirooki Goto, YOSHI-HASHI and YOH

Wrestlers were allowed to lock each other in dog cages.  The match could be won by pin or submission.    Everyone got locked in cages.  It was down to YOH and EVIL.   EVIL reverses out of a Direct Driver and hits Everything is Evil.

EVIL pins YOH.

House of Torture wins the NEVER Openweight 6-man Championship.

The match was hard to follow and a bit of a cluster. Now that House of Torture have the titles again that should keep them occupied and out of the other IWGP title pictures.

8 - Elimination Match:   The DKC, Master Wato, Ryusuke Taguchi and David Finlay vs. Francesco Akira, TJP, Aaron Henare and Will Ospreay

Wato was eliminated over the top rope by Akira.

Akira was eliminated over the top by Taguchi.

Taguchi eliminated TJP over the top.

Henare eliminated Taguchi over the top.

Henare pins DKC after a senton off the ropes.

Ospreay was eliminated over the top when Finlay pushed Henare into Ospreay.

Finlay pins Henare after a Trash Panda.

Finlay wins the match for his team.

On Sunday, September 25, the Burning Spirit Tour concludes with three title matches:

1.  IWGP Jr. Heavyweight Tag Team Championship:  Master Wato and Ryusuke Taguchi vs. Francesco Akira and TJP

2.  NEVER Openweight Championship:  Hiroshi Tanahashi vs. “Machine Gun” Karl Anderson

3.  IWGP U.S. Heavyweight Championship:  David Finlay vs. Will Ospreay
