AEW RAMPAGE REPORT

By Cory Strode on 2022-09-09 23:18:00

It is Friday and it’s time for AEW Rampage, recorded after AEW Dynamite from the Key Band Center from Buffalo NY.  Our commentary team is Excalibur, Jim Ross, Tony Schiavone, and Chris Jericho.

Sammy Guevara vs Darby Allin in an AEW Tournament match

They lock up and Darby is able to drive Sammy into the corner, but then Sammy pushes Darby to the other corner. They break and go to the center of the ring where Darby slaps Sammy and then takes him down.  They go to the ropes and Darby takes Sammy down with a headlock. Sammy works his way up and they go to the ropes again and trade pin attempts. Darby gets an arm bar on and Sammy gets to the ropes for a break.

Darby attacks Sammy in the corner and Sammy reverses. They go to the top and Sammy is able to get a leaping knee into Darby’s face. Sammy gets a superplex, hangs on and gets a pair of suplexes. Sammy tries for a third, and Darby fights back and they go over the top rope to the floor.  Darby gets into the ring and starts for a tope, but Tay gets in the way.  Darby has to reset and when Darby leaps, Sammy moves Tay out of the way and gets a cutter on Darby and we go to picture in picture.

When we return to full screen, Sammy is in control and he takes Darby down with a rear kick. Sammy goes to the top and misses a shooting star press. Darby takes advantage for a code red and a two count. As they are on the floor, Tay distracts Darby and allows Sammy to get a rider kick off the steps. Sammy and Tay are making out, allowing Darby to hurl himself from the ring into Sammy. He tosses Sammy into the ring for a two count.

Sammy locks on a wristlock, and Darby takes off Sammy’s wedding ring. Tay gets on the apron to distract Darby and Sammy is able to get a rising knee strike on Darby’s blind side. Sammy puts the ring back on and flips off the camera. Sammy gets a kick and then a two rope leaping cutter and a two count. Sammy calls for a coffin drop, but Darby gets out of the way.

Darby goes to the top, and Anna Jay AS gets on the apron to distract the ref to allow Tay to hold Darby’s leg and Sammy hits a low blow, and Darby’s skateboard to be put in the ring, wheels up. Sammy slams Darby on the skateboard, and then hits a GTH  and covers Darby for the win.

Winner and moving on in the AEW TournamentL Sammy Guevara

Next up is a pre-taped promo from Eddie Kingston.

Samoa Joe comes to the ring. Yes says he is happy to be back and he’s open for business.  Mark Sterling comes out and says that his team has been grinding while Joe has been gone and that Josh Woods deserves a title shot.  Joe agrees with him and says he will fight Woods right now, tonight!  Sterling says the paperwork isn’t ready, so they will have the match in a better city, Albany, next week.

We then get a video from Miro who says his God has failed and he deserves a title now!

Madison Rayne vs Serena Deeb

Been too long since Serena Deeb was on TV.

They lock up and Deeb is able to take Rayne down, but Rayne is up quickly. They start up again and Deeb gets wrist control and takes Rayne down. Rayne works her way up and hits an arm drag on Deeb. Deeb goes for detox, and Rayne is able to escape and get a two count on Deeb.

Deeb then lectures Rayne that she is the  coach in AEW. Rayne shoved Deeb and Deeb takes down Deeb and rains down blows on her.  Rayne is able to get in a series of kicks and blows and is able to grab a two count cover.

Rayne locks on a front chancery and Deeb tosses her off.  Deeb is able to take down Rayne and slams her knee repeatedly into the mat. Deeb then puts on the serenity lock and Rayne has to tap out.

Winner: Serena Deeb

JR and Chris Jericho wonder if Deeb is a jezebel.

Lexi is in the back with Jade Cargill. Lexi asked if anyone could beat Jade. Jade says come and get it.

Lexi is then with Powerhouse Hobbs, who says that QT and the Factor couldn’t get the job done to take out Ricky Starks, so he did it at All Out.

We get Mark Henry’s interview segment.  William Regal talks about how he pulled Dax Harwood from obscurity and knows all of Dax’s skills.  He then says Dax is facing the ultimate competitor and he is on that man’s since. Claudio then says he respects Dax, but he won’t win tonight.  Dax says that Claudio is a hell of a wrestler. Dax says this is how he feeds his family and he will become the Ring of Honor champion tonight.

It’s time for the Main Event!

Claudio Castagnoli (Ring of Honor World Champion) vs Dax Harwood

Dax is by himself tonight.  Caprice Coleman joins commentary. Regal stays at ringside.  I have a feeling we are in for a treat.

The code of honor is adhered to.  They lock up and go to the corner. They break and tie up again. They run the ropes and Claudio gets a shoulder tackle. They run the ropes again and trade two counts. They fight for a backslide. Claudio gets out of it with an elbow strike and then starts trading shops.

Dax is able to get a short arm clothesline on Claudio. They both try to get a suplex, and they go into the ropes and tumble out of the ring as we go picture in picture.

When they return to full screen,  Dax and Claudio trade strikes and copes. Claudio tosses Dax into the ring post from the inside of the ring, tossing him under the bottom rope in the corner. Claudio then hits a baseball slide on Dax into the barricade. Claudio tosses Dax into the ring and they trade blows.  Claudio is able to lock on an abdominal stretch, and Dax is able to hip toss Claudio to get out of it. Claudio is able to get a clothesline and cover Dax for a two count.

Claudio puts Dax onto the top and they trade blows on the top. Claudio finally drops and Dax hits a diving head butt and covers a two count. They then trade blows. Claudio goes for the neutralizer, but Dax escapes, hits a pile driver and gets a two count. Dax is up first, goes to the top and Claudio is up and hits an uppercut on Dax. They fight on the top again.

Claudio gets a super plex and a two count. They go to picture in picture.

When they return to full screen, Dax and Claudio are throwing hands again. Dax is able to get a backslide for a two count. Claudio goes to a big boot, but Dax is able to avoid it and pick up Claudio for the slingshot Liber bomb and a two count. The match resets and Claudio runs at Dax, who is able to grab him for German suplexes. Dax gets two before Claudio escapes with elbow strikes. Claudio is put on the top and Dax goes for a suplex and Claudio counters to a cross body. Dax is able to reverse it and cover Claudio for a two count.

Both men are down and slow to get up.  This has been fantastic. They both  get up leaning on each other and they trade blows and Claudio is able to take over with uppercuts. Dax simply drops. Claudio calls for the giant swing and after it’s done, he puts on the sharpshooter. Dax is able to roll through and gets a sharp shooter of his own. Claudio tries to power out, but Dax hits a mule kick to hold on. Claudio is able to roll through and kicks his way free.

Claudio starts landing blows and Claudio locks on the sharpshooter again and Dax is knocked out.

Your winner and still Ring of Honor Champion:  Claudio Castagnoli.

Excellent match, and overall, three great matches for a Friday night.
