THOUGHTS FROM ATTENDING AEW DYNAMITE IN BUFFALO

By Tom Mehs on 2022-09-08 14:17:00

I attended my 3rd AEW Dynamite show in Buffalo. One thing I can always say about AEW is that the live experience has always been enjoyable and a lot of fun. One of the major reasons for this is the atmosphere and crowd interaction. That was no exception last night.

Despite having a show after a few days that were tumultuous is say the least, the company was able to provide a show that well put together, exciting and had the crowd and fans heavily into nearly every match.  While, the Dark Elevation matches were (as usual) short and not competitive, the local team of Butcher, Blade and Bunny came out for the show main event to a huge ovation (and wearing Sabres jerseys).

The opening to Dynamite and reaction was off the charts. The heat MJF can attract is unsurpassed. One thing I can say about the AEW presentation – they do not need the “sweetening” of crowd noise. It is natural.  Moving into a very hot and action packed trios match was great and the crowd absolutely popped for the hot moves.

The Acclaimed we also super over and (somehow) so is Billy Gunn. The chant for Swerve Strickland interrupting the Caster rap was crazy and might have been the biggest heel reaction of the night. When the Acclaimed win the titles in two weeks, the reaction will be gigantic.  Having him interrupt Caster was brilliant. Caster’s rap would need to include references to the fight and issues, which I am sure lawyers for AEW warned all  not to mention in any detail, including Tony Kahn due to the pending legal ramifications.

Adam Page vs. Danielson shows that two popular wrestlers can have a match with two men both getting cheered. Sometimes a long match is a drain on the crowd, but this was not, as it built very well

Now, on to the main event of the evening.  Another thing AEW does that is appreciated is respect the home crowd. All three shows I have been to have had a local touch (Brody Lee tributes twice in Rochester) and tonight the further elevation of Daniel Garcia. The match itself was very enjoyable and seeing Garcia win sent the crowd home happy. His post show interview for the people in attendance at the show was also well received.

The one drawback is that a lot of the crowd left for Rampage. The main event of that show was long and well worked. A post match interview with Claudio and Dax was very appreciative to those of us that stayed.

On what was a tough situation for AEW (and certainly the leadership has responsibility for the issues), they came out and put on a show that was clearly a re-set of the promotion at least for now, that managed to be highly entertaining. It is also clear that people like Dax, Claudio and especially Tony Kahn love that they do and want this company to succeed. The entire company also makes it perfectly clear that they do appreciate the audience and listen to the people that support the company

I look forward to the next show I will attend!
