9/5/22 Results from New Japan’s Burning Spirit From Korakuen Hall, Tokyo
COVID restrictions have been lifted. Loud pop from crowd in Korakuen Hall as the show begins. Fans still wearing masks. Prior to this show, there was a rule that no one could shout or scream at an event even with a mask.
Hiromu Takahashi comes to the ring to pump up the crowd. The crowd chants “Hiromu!” He is so happy to hear their reactions. Hiromu hyped up the crowd before show.
This should be a great moment for all wrestlers on the card.
Minoru Suzuki vs. Bad Dude Tito
Suzuki was the perfect one to be in the opening match. Suzuki was all smiles as he pumped the crowd up. Lots of goosebumps to hear the Japan crowd scream “Kaze Ni Nare!” for the first time in years.
Even Milano Collection A.T. was wiping away tears of joy. Awesome moment!
Suzuki pins Tito with a Gotch Piledriver.
Good match. The crowd reaction kept both wrestlers pumped up. Suzuki did not do his usual chop and elbow exchanges. He and Tito wrestled. The crowd cheered for both men.
Toru Yano, YOH, YOSHI-HASHI and Hirooki Goto vs. Dick Togo, SHO, Yujiro Takahashi and EVIL
House of Torture’s music plays and the crowd boos LOUD! Damn, they hate House of Torture. They bring a dog cage to the ring to taught Yano.
CHAOS members are wearing their “No House of Torture” t-shirts.
Yano pins Togo after a low blow and a school boy pin.
Wild match. The crowd hated House of Torture, especially SHO. The crowd was happy to cheer for Yano. All wrestlers were focused and moving and performing with purpose, just because they could hear the crowds reactions. SHO and Yujiro loved hearing the boos from the crowd.
Gideon Grey, Great O-Khan and Jeff Cobb vs. Hikuleo, Chase Owens and Bad Luck Fale
Big pop for United Empire and Great O-Khan.
Hikuleo pins Gideon after a Choke Slam.
Another wild match. The wrestlers looked like they were having fun and playing off the crowd.
Gideon Grey is still a mystery. He has charisma, and got some chants, but is treated like a jobber. He performed in Revolution Pro in the UK, which is where he connects with Ospreay and O-Khan. He is the weak link with United Empire, but still too early to tell.
Hikuleo is a beast. I can see him entering the G1 Climax next year. His battle with O-Khan tonight could be preview of great things to come.
The DKC, Master Wato and Ryusuke Taguchi vs. Aaron Henare, Francesco Akira and TJP
Henare pins DKC with a Rampage.
Good fast paced match. DKC is over big in Korakuen. Akira and TJP are clicking well as a tag team. Henare continues to look like a beast.
Jado and KUSHIDA vs. Gedo and Taiji Ishimori
KUSHIDA pins Gedo with a Hammerlock Suplex.
New Japan is slowly building the match between KUSHIDA and Ishimori, which should be awesome.
BUSHI and Shingo Takagi vs. KENTA and El Phantasmo
ELP comes to the ring with his hair cut in the style of Takagi. ELP takes off his shirt to reveal another shirt referring to ELP is Shingo’s Daddy. Big pop from the crowd for the shirt. ELP gives Takagi the shirt which he tosses to the floor.
ELP pins BUSHI after a CR2.
Another good high tempo match. A feud between Takagi and ELP should be fun and entertaining.
Hiromu Takahashi, SANADA and Tetsuya Naito vs. El Desperado, Taichi and Zack Sabre Jr.
Korakuen pops for all these wrestlers. They explode for Naito before he even comes out.
SANADA pins Taichi with an O’Conner Roll.
After the match, ZSJ and Naito continue to fight and have to be separated.
Great stuff from Los Ingobernales and Suzuki-Gun. Fast paced which popped the crowd.
Hiroshi Tanahashi and Kazuchika Okada vs. Shane Haste and JONAH
This is the second match on this tour that JONAH is in the main event. New Japan has big plans for him. Same could be said for Shane Haste.
Korakuen explodes for The Ace and The Rainmaker.
Tanahashi pins Haste after an Aces High and a High Fly Flow.
Good match. Haste and JONAH looked great even in defeat. They can hang with the top guys in New Japan. This tour is just getting started. The night ends with Okada and Tanahashi addressing the loud Korakuen crowd. Both were emotional as they thanked the crowd.
This event is free to the public so check it out on New Japan World.
The Burning Spirit Tour continues on Sept. 18.
