WWE presents Worlds Collide from Orlando, FL on Sunday, featuring the unification of titles between NXT and NXT UK. Here's our thoughts on what will take place.
Bron Breakker vs. Tyler Bate to unify the NXT and NXT UK Men's Championships
Dave: First I want to say that in a few weeks, NXT has made me care 10 times as much for this show as AEW has for All Out. If you disagree, I respect that. We all like what we like. I loved the Alumni appearances this week. They told me how much NXT meant to THEM, so it should also mean something to me. I think anyone reading this knows how much I love NXT UK and Tyler Bate. With that said, unless Bron is going up to the main roster, he should win here. But if he is going up to the main roster, Tyler can carry the mantle.
Mike: The NXT go-home show for this event was the best go-home show for any WWE PPV in forever. They did a great job of reinforcing the importance and legacy of NXT overall, shifting it back towards a little bit more of the sensibilities seen in the black and gold era. So, who wins this? It should be Bron, but I am really excited for this one as Bate is a great talent and this is a very unique mix of styles in terms of pure raw athleticism vs. technical finesse. I expect this will be one of the best Bron bouts to date.
Richard: As I am putting together my thoughts, this match is still an impossibility based on the television product because Tyler has not beaten Trent Seven yet on Thursday's NXT UK: The Farewell. I thought the idea of having the 'pep talks' from former champions who had ties to the participants for this match was great. It made this match and the Women's match feel so more important with the short build we had for this show. Bron is the future for the company but is it time for Tyler to win the title this week and then unify them this weekend? Is Tyler too small to win? It is amazing to think that with the experience advantage that Tyler has, he is less than six months older than Bron. Would you want to piss off GUNTHER and Butch by losing? I give it to Tyler.
Mandy Rose vs. Meiko Satomura vs. Blair Davenport to unify the NXT and NXT UK Women's Championships
Dave: I doubt Meiko wants to be in the US full time at this point in her career, since she is older now. So if it's me, I have Davenport beat Mandy and shake things up. Mandy chasing her belt could be very interesting. But I could also see Mandy retaining and if she does, she should pin Meiko. Then Blair can attack her after the match (if you think Mandy is a heel, wait until you see Blair). Then those two can go to war. OK, I just changed my mind. Mandy should pin Meiko then have Blair destroy her.
Mike: I don't see them ending the Mandy Rose express, especially since this is a Triple Threat which means the rest of Toxic Attraction could get involved. My feeling is that Davenport is there to get pinned and we can see Meiko vs. Mandy down the line.
Richard: Two things bother me about this match. First, if you are unifying titles, shouldn't everyone in the match be a champion? If that is not a problem with WWE, then second, if the tag title match is being done with Elimination rules, why isn't this match? If you need to eliminate all of your opponents to win, why is first pinfall the way to go for the number two title on your brand? The 'pep talks' were a good touch for this match as well, even if it was convenient that Alba Fyre was standing there when Meiko arrived on Tuesday. Are they doing first pinfall so if they have to take the title off Meiko with her being pinned? Does Meiko want to stay in the US? Blair has another time machine like Tyler since she has not technically earned her number one contender spot until this week's NXT UK episode. The majority of this match should be Blair and Meiko showing us which of them is the best in this match and then once they wear down each other, Mandy comes in and wins the title. Since it is the first pinfall and a multi-person match, we can get interference from Toxic Attraction to help Mandy win.
Brooks Jensen and Josh Briggs vs. The Creed Brothers vs. Pretty Deadly vs. Gallus to unify the NXT and NXT UK Men's Tag Team Championships in an Elimination Match
Dave: This will be fun as hell. I know Rich doesn't like non-champs in the match and under normal circumstances I would agree but in this case, it's closing down a brand so they want people to see all of the players and set up porgrams for them. I am fine with that. It's no secret that I love Gallus and if they get the belts I will be happy. But if not, they can chase. The Creeds, who are great, have their issues with Roddy Strong so that could factor in. I could see the champs retaining in a match that asks more questions than gives answers.
Mike: NXT UK needs to get a win and my gut is that Gallus is up here. To me, Gallus being chased by the Creeds is the money match here. My guy is Brooks and Briggs are the ones getting pinned.
Richard: Another match to unify a title with participants who are not champions. At least this multi team match is elimination style so the champion has to earn the win. We have three very good teams in this match and the NXT Tag Team Champions. Julius Creed gets better every week and I expect him to be a major player in this company. If I was booking this match, I would have Jensen and Briggs get eliminated first. Because of their past work, it might be best if the final two teams are Pretty Deadly and Gallus even if it would probably not be as popular with the crowd because it would get The Creeds out of the match. If the Creeds can beat Pretty Deadly and Gallus in the same match (or even outlast them without eliminating both teams), it would do a lot for their status. It would also piss off Roderick Strong, so he will probably screw over the Creeds. In the end, the crowd in Orlando will be going "YES BOY" for the new Unified Tag Champs Pretty Deadly (give them their old names back)
NXT Women's Tag Team Champions Katana Chance and Kayden Carter vs. Doudrop and Nikki A.S.H.
Dave: The champs get a win from a WWE team to up their cred. I like it.
Mike: I am 100% with Dave here. The young talents get the rub and the main roster talents get to show their stuff.
Richard: There was one thing I was not expecting when I saw Doudrop walk out when Katana and Kayden said they had no one left to face and that was Nikki A.S.H. I thought they were not friends any more because they couldn't even stand next to each other while watching MONITOR on Monday. If Alba "Kay Lee Ray" Fyre had followed Doudrop to the ring, this could be my pick for match of the night. The tension between the challengers should be what keeps the titles on The KCs.
NXT North American Champion Carmelo Hayes vs. Ricochet
Dave: Many moons ago, HHH talked about how they could use NXT in conjunction with the main roster to work for all. This is an example. Ricochet comes in strong from Smackdown and if Hayes beats him in a great match, Hayes gets elevated and Ric is fine. Under Vince, Ricochet would have lost 20 straight and gone down and won. I like the new world sooooo much better. And if Ricochet wins? That's some interesting stuff that makes people tune in on Tuesday.
Mike: There is no world where Ricochet should win here unless he's moving to the brand full-time. If not, let him showcase himself and then Hayes steals the win.
Richard: For a match that had 10 minutes of build on television, they did as much as possible with the lights out reveal of Ricochet as Carmelo's opponent on Sunday. My first thought was maybe they bring Gargano back for the match. This will be an aerial extravaganza and should showcase both men's talents. I hope Trick's involvement in the match is a minimum or non-existent. Ricochet will make people remember this match, but I don't think Ricochet leaves Worlds Collide with the title. Hayes retains.
