8/20 AIW 'FRESH MEAT' RESULTS FROM CLEVELAND, OHIO

By Joshua Higham on 2022-08-21 20:28:00

AIW presents Fresh Meat 2  - Part of JLIT Weekend 2022

The Odeon

Cleveland, OH

August 20, 2022

The next graduating class of the AIW Academy are ready for their debuts in the AIW ring.

Dom Garrini defeats Tyson Riggs

Tyson Riggs is the founder of a martial arts academy or style, Bear Shark, handing out flyers in his entrance. His opponent is head trainer at the AIW Academy, Dom Garrini. Riggs attempts the snap mare and kick to the back. Garrini is nonplussed and gives Riggs a snap mare and multiple kicks and chops. Riggs’ chest is red. Riggs connects with a couple suplexes, but can’t get a three count. Riggs starts arguing with the ref, and Garrini hits the driver for the win.

Alec Price defeats Adam Priest, Mikey Montgomery, and Philly Collins

Alec Price has his championships from other promotions with him, and man, there’s no easy fan favorites in this one. Before the bell rings, Steve Guy announces the winner of this match will take on Absolute Champion Josh Bishop at tonight’s show. Alec Price calls Adam Priest an oompa loompa and eats a chop for his troubles. Priest has Price in a figure four, which is broken up by stereo dives from Montgomery and Collins. Priest and Collins fight to the floor. Montgomery goes for the dive into the first row, and so does Price. Back in the ring, all four try to hit their big shots, but get interrupted before making a pin. Price connects with the Surprise kick on Montgomery to get the win and the title shot tonight.

Riley Rose defeats Vik Vice

Vik Vice is our debuting graduate in this match. We’re told Vice is an artist, working on some prints seen on the AIW patreon. Garrini also claims that Riley Rose was replaced in the tournament by Ernest “The Cat” Miller. Rose wins with a variation on the Michonuku Driver.

To Infinity and Beyond (Colin Delaney and Cheech) vs Members Only (Malcolm Cambridge and Calvin G. Lewis)

I believe Members Only has a tag title match in their back pocket from winning at the latest Akron event. To Infinity and Beyond are jawing with some kids in the crowd, and Members Only take the hot start and attack. Cheech and Delaney use their experience and heelish tendencies to get one up on Members Only and the inexperienced referee. Colin and Cheech isolate Cambridge on the floor before trying to set up for the Lincoln Log. Calvin Lewis escapes and schoolboys Delaney for the three count. Delaney protests his shoulder was up, but no one is listening.

Back from intermission with…

Derek Dillinger defeats Hendrix Hawkins

Dillinger, one of the trainers at the Academy, is yelling at the crowd, who are cheering for a guy who hasn’t wrestled yet. Hawkins calls himself the “highest, flyest.” Hawkins momentarily gets the best of Dillinger with a Japanese armdrag, satellite headscissors, and a blockbuster, but Dillinger kicks up at one. Ziggy starts asserting herself into the match on the floor as Hawkins and Dillinger brawl through the crowd. Back in the ring, Hawkins avoids the moonsault and creates some space. Hawkins slips, trying for Sliced Bread, so it doesn’t hit its full effect. Hawkins climbs to the top, but gets distracted by Ziggy. Dillinger rolls away from the frog splash and hits the sunset bomb and double knees for the win.

The Duke defeats Austin James

Austin James is rocking the baseball gear. Of course, The Duke does not endear himself to the crowd with a nice contingent of fans of Austin James. James gets the advantage and hits a sliding kick, reminiscent of Dasher Hatfield’s baseball days. James climbs to the top for the Moonshot moonsault. He takes too much time, and Duke moves. Duke Driver gets the veteran the win over the rookie.

Wes Barkley defeats Shaw Mason

Shaw Mason might have the biggest fan section of the day. At least, the loudest. Barkley’s getting booed the loudest since the start of the feud with Matt Cardona. Shaw Mason is an amateur wrestler from John Carroll University. Barkley seems to revel in the boos. Mason has put a target on Barkley’s ankle, cinching in the ankle lock. Barkley hits the Stroke and gets the win. Barkley unties his wrestling shoes to relive some pressure and asks for the mic. Barkley says Mason told him Barkley was the reason he joined the AIW Academy. Barkley says no one has worked harder than Mason, who took him to the limit today. Barkley tells Mason he was just talking to a friend in Tokyo, so next Saturday at WrestleRager, it will be Shaw Mason vs. Filthy Tom Lawler.

Non-title match: AIW Absolute Champion Joshua Bishop defeats Sam “Hardway” Holloway

Holloway appears to be the biggest of the new debuts. Holloway’s fans get on Bishop’s case like Mason’s fans got on Barkley’s. Holloway and Bishop are roughly the same size, so they’re trading power. Bishop tries for a superplex, but the fan’s chant about his hair gives Holloway the opening to shove him off and hit a flying clothesline of his own. Holloway blocks the Bishop Bomb and hits a backbreaker. Bishop hits a Black Hole Slam, and Holloway kicks out at one. A swinging forearm shot to the back of the head knocks Holloway out for the three count.

Notes:

Charles Mann makes his debut as a ref along with the normal referee corps of Tom Dunn, Jake Clemons, and Porter O’Shea.  Dustin Alberti debuts on color commentary. Matt Wadsworth takes the lead on play by play, but Dom Garrini covers the Vik Vice/Riley Rose match.
