AEW RAMPAGE REPORT

By Cory Strode on 2022-08-19 23:01:00

It is Friday and AEW Rampage was recorded after Dynamite in Charleston, West Virginia at the Charleston Coliseum. Our commentary team is Jim Ross, Excalibur, Chris Jericho, and Tony Schiavone.

Claudio Castagnoli and Wheeler Yuta come to the ring. Ricky Steamboat is still at ringside. Claudio says he’d rather be in gear defending the Ring of Honor title and he issues an open challenge for next week. Dustin Rhodes comes out and answers the challenge. He says that after 34 years, he wants to be a world champion. Claudio says that he knows Dustin has a fire inside him to have that run as World Champion. Cklaudio says he accepts and tells Dustin to bring his A game.

We then get a promo from Ortiz and Ruby Soho.

Swerve in Our Glory (AEW Tag Team Champions) vs Private Party

Keith Lee starts with Isiah Kassidy, with Kassidy getting in his face. Keith tosses him, but Kassidy lands on his feet and comes back to throw hands on Keith. Keith drops him with a double hand slap. Keith drags him back to his corner for Swerve to tag in. Swerve gets a few blows in the corner, but when he leaps at Kassidy, Kassidy is able to hit him with a back elbow. They struggle in the middle of the ring to see who will suplex who.  Marq Quen leaps from the top and completely misses the both of them and rolls to the outside.

Swerve hoists Kassidy up, but he reverses it and tosses Swerve to the outside, following with a tornado dive and we go to picture in picture.

When they return to full screen, Swerve is on the top turnbuckle and counters the gin and juice attack from Private Party. He leaps over them to tag in Keith, who cleans house. Keith ends the sequence with a lariat and two count on Kassidy. Kassidy is able to get an insigiri and tags in Quen, who runs into a giant pounce for a two count.  Swerve tags in and he hits a leaping side kick for a two count.

Keith tells Swerve to finish the job. Swerve hits the JML Driver and holds on for the three count.

Winners and still AEW Tag Team Champions: Swerve in Our Glory.

Lee and Swerve come over to show respect and share fist bumps.

Lexi is in the back with QT Marshall and The Factory. She asks if he is worried about Powerhouse Hobbs. Before they can reply, Hobbs shows up and ends their poker game. QT says that the Factory will take care of Ricky Starks for him.

Hook (FTW Champion) vs “The Reality” Zack Clayton

Clayton heels the state of West Virginia.

Hook then comes out, slaps the Redrum on Zack, who goes out light a bad light bulb.

Winner and still FTW Champion: Hook

In the back,Angelo Parker and Matt Menard wonder what the FTW championship would be like if it was held by a sports entertainer.

Serpentico vs Buddy Matthews

Serpentico is already in the ring. Looks bad for him. Especially with Buddy Matthews in his first solo return match.

Serpentico gets shotgun drop kicked into a turnbuckle to start the match. Serpentico rolls to the outside. Buddy helps him to the floor with a kick and then tosses him into the barricade. Serpentico is able to get back in the ring, goes to the top for a hurricanrana, and Matthews stops him mid move and tosses him into the corner. He follows with a knee strike and a pump handle slam for the pin and the three count.

Winner: Buddy Matthews.

Miro comes out onto the stage and tosses Malakai Black’s mask onto the floor.  Miro comes to the ring and just beats down Matthews. Matthews rolls out of the ring and Miro stays in the ring, raging.

Lexi is in the back with Britt Baker.

Penelope Ford vs Athena

They lock up, collar and elbow and Ford shoves her down and she kips right back up. She then dodges strikes from Ford and then arm drags her down. Ford is able to toss her to the corner, but when Ford tries a second run, Athena drops her with a leaping knee from the bottom rope. Ford tires the backflip cartwheel into Athena in the corner and Athena grabs her midair.

Ford hits a casadora, putting Athena into the ropes and Ford hits a drop kick into her back. As they go to the floor, we’re told that Kip Sabian is still wearing the box at ringside and we go picture in picture.

When we return to full screen, Ford runs into a back eoblow in the corner and Athena hits a series of kicks, knees and then a clothesline. Ford runs the ropes right into a pop up power bomb and a second power bomb as Athena did not let go.  Ford rolls to the outside. Athena follows her and hits a shotgun drop kick right in front of Sapian. Athena rolls her into the ring, and hits the leaping DDT finisher and pins for the three count.

Winner: Athena

Kiera Hogan and Leyla Grey attack Athena and Jade Cargill comes from the back, The Baddies hold Athena as Jade destroys her wings with a sledge hammer. Athena fights her way free, and Jade nails Athena with the sledgehammer in the midsection.

It’s time for the main event interview section for the second match in the Trios tournament for the Trustbusters vs The Best Friends. When Mark Henry says there has been enough talk, Cassidy stops him and says that’s his line.

Best Friends vs The Trustbusters Trios Tournament

Chuck Taylor and Ari Davari start off and Ari nails Chuck in the back and tags in Slim J. Chuck pops J and gives Ari the Soul Food before tagging in Trent Beretta, and J attacks Beretta as he comes in. J tries to attack Trent in the corner, but Chuck is able to pull him off and tosses him into a power bomb by Trent for a two count, broken up by Ari.

The Best Friends kick Ari around and Parker Boudreaux comes in and attacks.  All six men are fighting on the floor as we go picture in picture.

When we return to full screen, J tags in and runs tot he Best Friends’ corner to try to cut off Trent tagging out. He hits Chuck, but Cassidy dodges him. Cassidy starts tying his pants drawstring, and J mocks him by putting his hands in his pockets, allowing Trent to hits a full nelson overhead suplex. Cassidy tags in and hits the soft kicks on a prone J.

Ari comes in and Cassidy is able to hit a flying cross body on J and the spinning DDT on Ari. He calls out Parker and Parker grabs Cassidy by the throat and tosses him into the ropes, taking him down with a pounce.  The Best Friends get in the ring and run the ropes, and Parker runs through them. He then hits splashes on the friends in each corner. Parker tosses Chuck into Trent in the corner, and they are able to dodge his charge.  Parker is dazed and all three of the Best Friends run to hit him with a simultaneous drop kick.

Parker rolls to the outside and J hits a leaping DDT on Cassidy, a kick on Trent and then  J leaps onto Trent and Chuck on the outside. J goes back into the ring and hits a leaping cutter on Cassidy while tagging in Ari. Ari follows up with a frog splash and a two count, broken up by the Best Friends. Parker drags Trent out of the ring, but Chuck is able to interfere. They each hit an attack on Parker and drive him over the barricade.

Cassidy goes to leap off the top and Sonny Kiss knocks Cassidy off the top where he crotches himself on the top rope. J leaps onto Cassidy and covers for the two. J calls for Parker and Sonny Kiss goes to see if he’s able to get up, and instead meets Danhausen.

Danhausen puts the curse on J and the Best Friends double chokeslam J.  They then build a type of Human Pyramid and slam J down with Cassidy dropping from the top of it onto him to cover for the three count.
