FAREWELL NXT UK, HELLO NXT EUROPE

By Mike Johnson on 2022-08-18 11:17:00

WWE announced this afternoon via an "exclusive" story on FOX News that NXT UK will sunset and be replaced NXT Europe, which will debut next year:

NXT UK will take part in a World's Collide event, according to Shawn Michaels.  NXT UK will then take a hiatus in advance of the launch of NXT Europe.

"So some of it, like everything with the WWE and NXT, that pipeline is always fluid. It’s going to be one of those situations where we’re going to have a lot of representation going into Worlds Collide," Michaels told Fox News Digital. "It’s what NXT has always been and that is to be a pipeline for the WWE in support of RAW and SmackDown. That process is going to continue. We’re going to use the UK talent that we can to go into Worlds Collide and keep that representation out there for as long as we can. And as we move things over here in the process, we’ll make all those decisions in 2023 about who’s a part of NXT Europe and who continues to stay here in NXT in hopes of getting a main roster call up."

One would think this means releases for some members of the NXT UK roster.  Tyler Bate, Charlie Bate, Blair Davenport and Gallus are all currently in the United States, so it would appear they will be safe.  What this means for the remainder of the roster remains, at best, murky, so there may be releases coming.  I can't see WWE keeping talents under contract through 2023 just waiting for NXT Europe to launch.

NXT UK was officially launched in June 2018, two years after WWE crowned their first ever WWE United Kingdom Champion.
